This is Dain’s Time By Jacqui Getz @thedetailsofstyle Makeup and Photos Ilise Harris @IliseHarris . Model and stylist Dain Baird Rodgers @dainbdain Dain Baird Rogers says, “It is my time.” And it is. Dain has spent much of her life interested in fashion, influenced by her “elegant, petite, classic” aunt since the age of 8; as a result, Dain has been consciously and possibly subconsciously preparing for her next act. Dain is a fascinating woman with incredible style and a remarkable eye. She is 60 and originally from Guyana. She works in New York City at the United Nations but is looking forward to her next chapter, retailing thrift, vintage, and upcycled garments. Her life journey has been filled with tragedy and triumph as she raised two wonderful children. Dain’s love of travel, seeking new experiences, intense curiosity, and enjoying intellectual stimulation are all reflected in her unique and striking style. Dain’s eye for fashion led her to build a stunning, joyful wardrobe (including shoes, bags, accessories, and hats) from several sources. Whether Dain thrifts outfits or wears the clothes of her designer sister (Dara Baird- @daradara.handmade, or Caribbean designers (Robert Young, The Cloth, @theclothofficial and Meiling, @meilinginc), her style reflects confidence, creativity, and deep knowledge of personal style. Dain doesn’t merely wear clothes; she brings them to life. She accessorizes and moves in each garment with purpose. Every outfit tells a story, reflects a mood, and, as Dain says, “is curated to speak to me.”
Dain doesn’t merely wear clothes; she brings them to life. She accessorizes and moves in each garment with purpose. Every outfit tells a story, reflects a mood, and, as Dain says, “is curated to speak to me.” Dain’s advice about shopping for clothes: Ignore the label Have a reason to purchase Be comfortable Make sure you can “be you” in the garment Wear it with pride Dain’s next steps, including becoming a model, opening her store, and dressing younger women for interviews, will all involve sharing her expertise on personal style. Her goal of being “elevated” by clothes has already been met. She understands how to use clothes to transform herself and others around her. Spending a day with Dain, inside her collection, or on the street and watching the looks of joy and the respectful comments of passersby tells it all: THIS IS DAIN’S TIME. Upcycle Fashion Thoughts by Robin Salls
Whether you refer to it as upcycling or thrifting, this fashion trend promotes an eco-friendlier approach to curating a wardrobe that reflects your unique identity. Gone are the days of following the crowd, as now there are hidden treasures waiting to elevate your style. Picture the charming boutiques cropping up in cities, offering gently-worn gems from designer labels that might otherwise be out of reach. Discovering a vintage pair of Prada shoes for less than $30 can truly make your heart sing, adding a touch of uniqueness to your ensemble. It's a win-win situation for both you and the planet. By embracing upcycled fashion instead of discarding items for new ones, we contribute to restoring the Earth's former splendor. Upcycling fashion can be as straightforward as repurposing old items. From transforming clothes and fabrics into blankets, bags, quilts, and even dog beds, to drawing inspiration from vintage pieces for new designs, the possibilities are endless. Mixing vintage with modern elements not only showcases your individuality but also sparks creativity in styling new outfits. Some individuals enhance old jeans with embroidered designs or quirky patches, dye worn-out garments for a fresh look, or creatively revamp stained clothing. Your closet may already house a hidden gem waiting for a fresh start: Alter a shirt's neckline Transform jeans into shorts Add a fringe hem to a shirt, skirt, or coat Convert a short denim jacket into a duster by incorporating material from an unused skirt The potential for reinvention knows no bounds, limited only by your imagination. And if sewing isn't your forte, many designers are readily available to assist. Give upcycled fashion a chance and share your journey with Tangled Silver Magazine on social media to join the celebration of women embracing this movement. We liken upcycle fashion to midlife – it signifies the start of a new chapter, spreading the message that everything can be refreshed and renewed.

The late, beautiful model Cindy Joseph said: Ageing is just another word for living. Nowadays though, it’s not that easy. It’s difficult to age and live authentically in a society that exerts incessant pressure on us to have wrinkle free, anti-aged faces. So I have a question… Do you have any wrinkles? A few? How do they make you feel? Do they horrify you? Do you see them as your enemy to be battled with or defeated? Or are you at the other end of the spectrum and don’t even think about them? If you don’t have any wrinkles, you haven’t laughed enough – Phyllis Diller When it comes down to it, a wrinkle is just an area where muscles supporting our skin have lost volume due to age, and the skin on top has lost its elasticity due to a natural loss of collagen/dehydration over time. When you add in the repetitive expressions we make continuously, like laughing and frowning, we are left with gradually more mini concertina’d areas on our faces, hands, knees, tummies and elbows. But, according to recent and not so recent societal perspectives, wrinkles are horrifying. They are persona non grata to be cancelled at any cost, to be anti-wrinkled out of existence by an expensive emulsion, dissolved by acids, immobilised by ‘safe’ poison and stretched and sliced away by surgeons. They shouldn’t be seen if at all possible as this means we’ll show our age and lose our value. And if we are not seen to be taking these measures against our wrinkles, there must be something wrong with us – we’re not deeming ourselves ‘worth it’. Women, particularly, grow up with a fear of ageing. We are raised to believe youth is the only life period that’s of value, and that if we allow wrinkles to appear on our faces we will be pitied and eventually completely ignored by society. And the likely resulting depression induced by our potential impending invisibility makes us more likely to buy the anti-ageing products promoted to us by the more cynical of our beauty companies to save us from this unfortunate situation. Phew. There’s shame involved too. Shame in showing up with normally lined skin, as if you’ve ‘let yourself go’. With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come – William Shakespeare Well, I’m here to zoom in on mine. I’m not ashamed to say it - my name is Julie and I have wrinkles. They aren’t all over my face yet, and I enjoy using nice creams (clean beauty is my thing). I take care of my skin (for transparency, I have hyperpigmentation and rosacea flare ups and sometimes use retinol) and in all honesty, I don’t love my wrinkles, but I certainly don’t see them as an enemy; I feel they give character to my face. For fun, I thought I’d give you a tour around my appalling facial wrinkles – you know, the ones I’m supposed to hate, the ones I’m most definitely not supposed to show, and the ones society has historically incited horror about in us all. Let’s start with my crow’s feet: these are lovely crescent shaped arcs (also called lateral canthal lines) that wing out from the corners of my eyes. I gained them from smiling and laughing at friends’ jokes, larking around like a four-year-old with my daughter and howling at my husband’s marriage-long jokes and silly karate chop movements. They are testament to my love of humour, and the way happiness has shown on my face for my entire life – I really love to smile. At times they are also squinting, winking and wincing lines – super handy expressions, especially when you have children. My eleven lines (glabellar lines): two powerful dynamic little wrinkles who live comfortably between my brows and have become ingrained by: my expressed concern for others; my worry about something happening, like the cancer I have been through twice; the loss of two family members in the past two years; the long-term trials of the menopause, bringing up a child, crying and navigating life. I show my empathy, displeasure, anger, sadness and compassion through these little lines: a smorgasbord of emotion that, I feel, is intrinsic to my ability to communicate with my fellow humans. Smile lines (nasolabial folds): these are carved lightly into my cheeks like tiny, cupped hands and have become permanent residents as they repeatedly help my smile reach its full potential. I love to smile, laugh and show my understanding and appreciation by using them and care not a jot that there’s a permanent remnant of the line there. These lines are sketched by joy, my appreciation of comedy, a lifetime’s communication through talk, important speeches, chats and shouts of shock and dismay. My neck: here’s a tough one. No one likes to see the wrinkles gather here in such an obvious place, but my neck lines (platysmal bands) are the result of my ‘head down’ work years looking down at a computer, cooking, watching Netflix slouched on the sofa, of using too little sunscreen (but what fun I had in the sun!), gardening, walking and of life. My looks have changed. I have laugh lines, not wrinkles - Iman. The emotions we feel become ingrained on our faces like a script and although we may not always like them, they are what we scribed. Trying to block them or fill them out can lead, at times, to a face that is able to show fewer expressions. Now, everyone has their own path in life, and if tweakments or surgery is yours, then crack on, because I’m all for what makes people happy – especially if it doesn’t hurt anyone. If most of us end up losing one of the most precious things about being a human though, it would be a sad day. Ageing isn’t a crime, and being made to feel less than worthy, or imperfect if you allow wrinkles to appear on your face, shouldn’t be the default. Imagine a world where showing compassion through expression becomes abnormal and everyone’s face can only make a few expressions. Young girls are already saturated with images of perfection, and the temptation to cancel more and more expressions as they age seems like a very real probability. We are becoming more and more disconnected from what is real, and more aligned with what big business would like us to be for profit. So sad when it’s possible to make an incredible number of expressions. Human facial expressions are one of the most important non-verbal ways we communicate. Paul Ekman…The psychology professor emeritus at the University of California, San Francisco, has spent 40 years studying human facial expressions. He has catalogued more than 10,000 possible combinations of facial muscle movements that reveal what a person is feeling inside. Isn’t that impressive? On a humorous note, I love the quotation about the famously inscrutable actress, Katherine Hepburn, who was once described by the critic Dorothy Parker as being able to run ‘the gamut of expressions from A to B’. Amusing stuff, but in reality, each of our faces has its own way of presenting emotions that makes it unique. So why is it such a problem to distil these down to just a few expressions with Botox, fillers and surgery? Because along the way we erode something else: the richness of expressed life – the joy, the nuances, the fleeting micro-expressions that communicate tiny emotions, and all for the imposed pressure to be younger than we are. I wonder if we are losing something – is it all ‘worth it’? I have wrinkles which are very evident. I will particularly say when I look at movie posters, “You guys have airbrushed my forehead. Please change it back” – Kate Winslett Times are changing with the pro-age movement gathering momentum, the #ageismisneverinstyle hashtag helping to expose prejudice, and prominent women like Paulina Porizkova, who is ageing visibly without tweaks and writes and campaigns about this issue. Oscar winning actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Michele Yeoh are also an encouragement to women across the world of late, with the long-awaited acceptance and valuing of their contribution by the film industry. The success we have watched them celebrate can only open doors for others. It's clear that things are moving in both directions, there’s a push and pull, and feelings around this subject run high. My personal journey is to sit comfortably with my wrinkles and to resist the pressure to erase them, despite being in a prominent online space. What I do see clearly, and with a keen sense of the passing of time enhanced by two breast cancer diagnoses, is that spending an inordinate amount of time worrying about wrinkles because of societal pressure, feeling like we should go through procedures to hide them, feeling embarrassed if they are seen and enduring the constant anxiety of living with them is such a waste of our precious time, emotions and money, and is definitely damaging to our self-esteems. And isn’t there something incredibly beautiful about the acceptance of oneself and the resulting confidence – it’s a life lesson in itself, with the bonus that we can still show that gamut of emotions from A to Z. What are your thoughts on wrinkles? I’d love to hear them. Julie thefiftyist@gmail.com

tacia Crawford is an award-winning Journalist with over 30 years of experience in the broadcasting industry including more than 2 decades as a producer in Chicago. Her vast experience as a television producer has positioned her to be a skilled communicator and public relations specialist who aids others in developing their story angles and pitches to get their messages and brands in front of the right audiences through her company Stay Ready Media. She understands what editors and producers want and what it takes to deliver and she wants to help you share your brilliance. Tangled Silver asked her to share a few thoughts around today's media challenges to get the conversations going. TS: What do you feel is the most important thing a person should keep in mind when approaching the media? STACIA: Understanding the dynamics of approaching the media is important for anyone looking to share their message effectively. It's important to recognize that media outlets are looking for valuable content to keep their audience engaged. You're not just asking for a favor – you're offering them content that aligns with their goals of informing and entertaining their audience. Many people also think of the media as an opportunity to promote themselves. But journalists aren't just looking for self-promotion; they want stories that resonate with and benefit their audience. When crafting your pitch or story idea, always ask yourself how it will educate, inform, inspire, or engage the audience. The needs of the audience should always be your primary focus. Instead of viewing media opportunities as a chance to promote yourself, approach them as an opportunity to provide value to the audience. Whether it's sharing expertise, offering insights, or providing solutions to common problems, you should always focus on delivering content that enriches the audience's experience.

STACIA: Make it a priority to regularly watch the news and consume other content from the media outlets where you want to be featured. That means watching relevant TV programs, listening to radio shows, and reading magazines and online publications. By immersing yourself in the content from these outlets, you'll gain valuable insights into their audience, their energy and tone, and their preferred topics. As for journalists at those outlets, you should follow them on social media. They often post content about the upcoming stories that they are working on, so stay connected so

TS: You offer workshops to help with just that. Can you share what one can expect from attending a workshop with you? STACIA: In my workshops I share media insider secrets from my 35 years as a TV producer. I show you how to come up with unique and valuable story ideas related to your area of expertise and pitch newsworthy angles that journalists want to cover. I show you how to spot media opportunities that are all around you and secure valuable media exposure even if you’ve never been on TV before. TS: Thank you for sharing a piece of your world with us in hopes to help us share our messages. I'd love to take a quick moment to talk about your embracing silver and the journey? STACIA: I began embracing my silver journey nearly 2 years ago. I was in my mid-forties when I first began dying my hair to cover the gray. For nearly a decade, I colored my hair religiously every 6-8 weeks. When the pandemic started and I began working from home, I took a break from dying my hair. I figured no one would see me anyway.

you can be at the right place at the right time. TS: The average person thinks it's nearly impossible to get media exposure for their business if they don't have large pocketbooks. Can you speak to that? STACIA: Yes, it's a common misconception that securing media exposure requires a big budget. Being featured on the news is called earned media is just that– earned. You don’t pay for it. It’s free. Many people are familiar with the media strategy known as pay-to-play. But there are opportunities where you can share your expertise with audiences without paying. You have to be invited, you have to get past the gatekeepers who have the power to say “Yes” to you. And the way you do that is by writing irresistible press releases and pitches that get noticed by journalists. You must know how to craft compelling stories, provide valuable insights, and position yourself as an expert in your field. That’s how you attract the attention of journalists and secure media coverage without spending a dime.

took a break from dying my hair. I figured no one would see me anyway. It was so liberating to not have to worry about dying it every 6-8 weeks. As the world began to open back up, and I headed back into the TV station, I noticed that many of my co-workers complimented me on my silver locks. Everywhere I went, whether the grocery store or the post office, people would tell me how pretty my hair was. Often, I would be stopped by other women who would say they wished they had the confidence to let their gray hair show. That’s when I realized that my hair journey was about more than just hair.. It was a signal to other women that it was safe to be their true, whole, and authentic selves… so I never went back to dying my hair. TS: I love that! I hope everyone will hear or reread that last part as it's such an important message. It is safe to be your true, whole, and authentic self! Stacia Crawford is a woman we can stand up and cheer for. TS: As more women are embracing their silver/gray hair and updating personal/business head shots to reflect who they are today can you share a few tips on how to capture a photo that brings their best selves to the frame? YVETTE: Absolutely! Your Authenticity is Beautiful. Every woman should know that her authenticity is what makes her truly beautiful. As a personal brand photographer, I want my clients to feel confident being themselves in front of the camera, because genuine expression creates compelling and impactful images. You Are More Than Enough. It’s important for women to know that they are more than enough just as they are. As their photographer, I strive to capture their unique essence and personality, showing them that they are worthy of being seen and celebrated. Your Confidence Will Shine Through. A photo impactfulshoot is an opportunity for women to step into their confidence and showcase their expertise. I want them to know that my photos will capture their confidence and presence, helping them stand out and make a lasting impression. Wardrobe Selection: Choose clothing and accessories that make you feel confident and reflect your personal brand. Solid colors and simple patterns tend to work well, avoiding busy patterns or overly trendy styles that may distract from your natural beauty. Have Fun with It: Above all, I like to remind women to enjoy the process and have fun during the photoshoot. A relaxed, positive atmosphere will help them feel comfortable and confident, resulting in photos that truly reflect their best selves.

As a personal brand photographer, I advocate for a pro aging approach behind the camera lens. I believe in capturing the authentic essence of individuals at every age, celebrating their unique beauty and wisdom that comes with experience. Rather than trying to conceal or diminish signs of aging, I aim to highlight the character, confidence, and resilience that shines through as people grow older. In my photography, I strive to showcase the richness of life’s journey, whether it’s through subtle lines that tell stories of laughter and joy (which I have a few of myself) or the gracefulness that comes with maturity. My goal is to create images that resonate with authenticity and integrity, empowering individuals to embrace their age and feel confident in their own skin. Ultimately, I believe that personal brand photography should reflect the real and multifaceted nature of individuals, regardless of age. By embracing a pro-aging mindset, we can celebrate the diversity and beauty of every stage of life, fostering a culture of inclusivity, self-acceptance, and empowerment. TS: What is one thing you've learned about yourself from embracing your silvers? YVETTE: Embracing my silvers has been a transformative journey, not just in terms of appearance but also in terms of self-discovery and acceptance. One thing I've learned about myself from embracing my silver hair is a newfound sense of confidence and authenticity. By embracing my natural hair color, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for my unique beauty and a sense of freedom from societal beauty standards. I’ve learn to embrace my age, experience, and wisdom, recognizing that my silver hair is a symbol of strength, resilience, and individuality. Embracing silver hair has been a catalyst for self-reflection and personal growth. It’s encouraged me to challenge stereotypes about aging and beauty, fostering a greater sense of self-acceptance and empowerment. Ultimately, embracing silver hair is not just about embracing a new look—it's about embracing oneself fully, flaws and all, and finding beauty in authenticity.

TS: What are your thoughts around anti-aging or pro-aging working behind the camera lens? YVETTE: When it comes to the concept of anti-aging or pro-aging in the realm of personal brand photography, my perspective is rooted in celebrating authenticity and embracing the beauty of aging gracefully. Firstly, I believe that both terms, “anti-aging” and “pro-aging,” can carry certain connotations. “Anti-aging” suggest a focus on reversing or fighting the natural aging process, often associated with trying to maintain a youthful appearance. On the other hand, “pro-aging” promotes a positive attitude towards aging, embracing the changes that come with time and celebrating the beauty of every stage of life. As a personal brand photographer, I advocate for a pro aging approach behind the camera lens. I believe in capturing the authentic essence of individuals at every age, celebrating their unique beauty and wisdom that comes with experience. The Ring and The Mountain, a documentary by Abby Boretto takes you into a twenty year journey to return a ring found in the Norwegian mountains. A journey for her that began in her childhood when her father didn't return home. Fifty years ago her father and five other marines were involved in a helicopter crash during NATO Exercise Strong Express. Twenty years ago a hunting trip would change a hunter and Abby's life forever when an object glimmered in the rocky landscape and caught the attention of that hunter. The story to return the ring and the what's transposed since then is the heart of The Ring and The Mountain. The unlikely loss and return of Abby's father's Annapolis class ring, brings the tragic story of Henry N. Pilger, 1LT USMC, into light and blossoms into something not unlike a miracle. We're sharing the trailer from this life changing experience for Abby and hope you'll feel her heart within this project to honor the fallen.
Meet Abby Boretto, a determined and dynamic force who is always seeking the next challenge!. From her philanthropic endeavors to her active engagement in civic duties and community activism, Abby's drive knows no bounds. crowned Mrs. California, she now adds another feather to her cap as a documentary film producer, solidifying her status as a woman on fire, always seeking out new challenges to conquer. In her early twenties, Abby's initial encounter with her emerging silver strands elicited a sense of horror. Living through the '90s, where gray hair was synonymous with age, only intensified her apprehension. Reflecting on familial influences—her great grandmother, grandmother, and mother—all sporting what they dubbed the "witch whip" at the front, Abby resorted to hair coloring to conceal her own silver. However, life's pivotal moments—pregnancy, motherhood, and later, remarriage—spurred introspection. Abby's decision to let her hair grow naturally during her first pregnancy marked a significant shift. Yet, societal pressures persisted, urging her back to the dye chair, especially as she prepared for her remarriage. By 2012, Abby found herself once again succumbing to hair coloring. Despite the thousands of dollars and hours invested in maintaining her jet-black locks, she reached a breaking point. Thanksgiving 2015 became a turning point—an unequivocal declaration to embrace her natural gray, cold turkey. The transition to her silver crown, which she affectionately dubbed "The Cruella," wasn't without its challenges. Yet, what Abby experienced next was nothing short of a phenomenon. In public, women began expressing admiration for her courage, longing for their own silver strands to exude such authenticity. Embracing her role as a trailblazer, Abby inspired others to embrace their authentic selves, challenging societal norms and insecurities. Her journey caught the attention of international photographer Ben Winkler, who captured her image for his project, "The Faces of Silver." Abby's involvement in that project led her onto another adventure, The Silver Sisters campaign, a global initiative celebrating the beauty of silver hair. Though the campaign faced setbacks due to the pandemic, Abby's impact remains profound. Her story continues to resonate, empowering individuals worldwide to embrace their unique beauty, one silver strand at a time.

While chatting with the founder and publisher of Tangled Silver magazine, Robin Salls, I asked her what the premise was when she started this community, this publication. She stated, “I wanted to bring topics of a taboo nature or those that were sugar-coated for the aging woman to the forefront of discussions. Don’t be on an island going through life’s adventures; panic mode is not an option. This is the journey to empower women in our Tangled Silver community.” I’m proud to bring the financial journey to the Ageless Women of the TS Community. So let the journey begin! It starts with how to have a “growth mindset”—what makes people successful? Is it primarily the attributes they are born with or the work they put in to develop those attributes? According to Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck, true potential is not limited by your character, skill, or intelligence, but by your mindset. She calls this the growth mindset: a tendency to believe that you can grow, and those who strive toward this thinking tend to accomplish more.
grow, and those who strive toward this thinking tend to accomplish more. 85% of those who are categorized at very high net worth were self-made. Source: Imberg, M., Shaban, M., & Warburton, S. (2021). Preservation and Succession: Family Wealth Transfer 2021. Wealth-X. The millionaires and multi-millionaires today aren’t primarily those who were born into money. They are the people who believe that consistent eort leads to long-term growth. Similarly, the biggest impact you can make in multi-generational wealth-building is teaching those who look up to you how to think. Then, when they do inherit your assets, they know how to handle it. Here are some tips on how to continue to develop a “growth mindset” in yourself and model it for future generations: 1. See challenges as opportunities. If we avoided obstacles, would we ever grow? When a baby learns to walk, with each misstep, they get back up and prepare for a potential tumble. It’s physically, mentally, and even emotionally taxing on their little bodies, but the struggle is worth it! When you recognize your own trials as opportunities, you develop a growth mindset and prepare yourself for more advanced challenges (and opportunities!) in the future. 2. Celebrate the success of others. One characteristic of a fixed mindset is believing that success is in limited supply and that others’ achievements threaten your own. Tangled Silver Karen S. Patel May Article – Journey Financial Consultant A way to combat this is by intentionally celebrating when others do well. Compliment a coworker on a good idea, send flowers to a friend who was recently promoted, or bring a housewarming gift to your new neighbor and see how it shapes your idea of abundance!
the impact of the timing of that decision. By documenting these goals, progress can be tracked towards obtaining the moments that are the center of your lives. Tracking and streamlining your financial affairs. Where are you today and where will you be in the future? Budget: Or what most people feel less stressed by is….Spending Plan: How much you bring in and spend each month. You will either spend your money earned today, tomorrow, next month, next year, or 30 years from now. Or if you don’t want to spend it all, that’s when your spending plan is to leave a legacy for someone else you love to spend it. The goal is to gain a realistic idea of what you spend, where you spend it, and what you will want to spend in the future. This also brings insight into your current ability to make adjustments that allow you to strengthen your plan with additional savings or debt reduction. Net worth: Where are you today and what can we expect your net worth to be at a future point in time? This important figure is one facet in the decision-making process as to when to retire or use assets appropriately for other goals. Your plan and how to work toward your prioritized goals. What are you doing well, and what can you do to add value to your plan? The advice given by any professional or specialist is often broken down into multiple steps and recommendations. These steps will be based on your current point in life. Different points in your life will have different topics. Addressing not only your current issues but also your future issues today is good planning that allows you greater opportunities in the future. Case in point: A young client may not be thinking about the expenses of health care later in life. However, by being proactive, we can plan for future needs even though they are less relevant today. In the world of finance, growth won’t always be linear, but you can surround yourself with people who share your values and help you maintain perspective to stay encouraged. A financial professional is a great source of guidance and inspiration. If it’s been a while since you’ve connected with your financial advocate, why not give them a call just to catch up? Or, if you’ve been lacking support in this area, it may be time to start working with a financial professional and begin to implement strategies toward the future you desire. We’re here to help you take the next step in your journey to financial security, confidence, and freedom. good idea, send flowers to a friend who was recently promoted, or bring a housewarming gift to your new neighbor and see how it shapes your idea of abundance! 3. Focus on your positive actions, rather than traits. As you assess yourself, focus on the positive behavior you’re developing over the traits you possess. “I am smart.” becomes “I am proud of the research I put into that project.” “I am a hard worker.” becomes “I successfully prioritized my time to accomplish my to-do list today.” 4. Recognize failure, then move on better. As with most things, fixed and growth mindsets aren’t one or another. Everyone will fall between the two beliefs, and this will change day by day, hour by hour. On the days when it seems all goes wrong, you can name those failures, recognize what they taught you, and learn how to make a change to avoid repeating them. 5. Remember growth is a process, not a destination. Challenges, opportunities, success, and failure are all part of the process, and the balance of these things may not always progress how you want or expect them to. This is normal. So now that you have your mindset in check, can you leave your success to the stars? As much as I am spiritual, curious, and an out-of-the-box thinker, I must tell you the stars can only provide so much. Having a plan to live your lifestyle to the fullest is what makes the stars shine brighter! A financial plan in its simplest definition is a course plotting a direction forward based on your current and future financials By plotting and creating a plan that extends into future years, it can be determined whether the current plan is on track to help you achieve those goals and if the goal is likely to be reached. Your financial plan is the tool to state and prioritize each goal you are looking to achieve. It provides direction on which goals are funded and underfunded and which require attention and additional planning. The benefit that planning offers, besides bringing organization to your finances, is the confidence achieved by working side by side with a financial advisor to educate you on your financial matters. When you have that clarity, you will be more likely to stay the course instead of deviating from the plan during adversity (for example, poor market performance or unexpected life changes). Planning can address these points for guidance. What is a financial plan? Stated goals: Future goals that pertain to you, your family, and the organizations you wish to benefit. Tracking: Where you currently stand now and your expected contributions in comparison to the funding needed to meet the goals you have set. Planning: Steps focused on saving, accumulating, and protecting of the assets for your future goals. Your plan should be reviewed annually to confirm or make corrections to the direction of your plan if finances or goals have changed. Establishing Goals. What are your financial priorities? Listening to what you are thinking and feeling while guiding you towards your stated goals is priority number one. This is the foundation of the planning relationship. Common topics can include budgeting and debt advice, employer benefit decisions, setting money aside for college, the selling of a business, and the impact of the timing of that decision. By documenting these goals, progress can be tracked towards obtaining the moments that are the center of your lives.

Women are increasingly incorporating oils into their hair care regimen, a practice known as hair oiling. Personally, I've been exploring this approach to streamline my routine, never imagining I could rely on minimal styling products. Hair oiling isn't just for locks but a whole scalp celebration! The perks are endless, but here's a sneak peek into the wonders it does for your head and hair: Detoxes the scalp like a champ. Strengthens hair. Shields from styling heat. Smells like a dream. Cuts down on shampoo and conditioner usage. Feeds and quenches the scalp's thirst. Waves goodbye to pesky dandruff. Comforts distressed hair. Cuts down on styling aids. Supercharges hair growth and embraces your natural hair flow! Oils have sparked a reevaluation of my vanity essentials. How about you? A new product I've recently tried is LOLAVIE by Jennifer Aniston. While the topic of celebrity owned beauty products is a hearty conversation, I give credit where credit is due. I don’t have feedback yet in regards to using Lolavie for an extended review but the first 2-3 weeks have been great. Like, really great. It's light weight with a citrusy, spa like fragrance that provides shine and soothes frizz. Have you tried Lolavie? A ‘FRIEND’ created it.
A Beautiful Legacy, The Next Generation By Ilise Harris @iliseharris
Most silver women are either familiar with Cindy Joseph or let me introduce you. Cindy was a makeup artist turned silver model, and the creator of the beauty brand Boom!. Cindy passed in 2018, but her legacy as one of the first public figures to ditch the dogma around silvering remains. While Boom! is no longer the brand Cindy created, since it has been taken over by new owners, her legacy of skincare has not been lost on the next generation. The spirit of natural, simple skincare solutions lives on through Cindy’s daughter, makeup artist Julia Joseph with her line, The Natural by Julia Joseph. Julia literally grew up in the beauty business. She developed her products to answer her own skin problems. The Natural was born of the desire to treat her own skin with her ethos of organic, pure and natural.

It is also an excellent hair and scalp treatment. maracuja + calendula face oil This product is unique in that it is a direct infusion. With no other ingredients, you get the concentrated benefit of two powerful plants, and nothing else. Both oils felt great on the skin, they both absorbed effortlessly, leaving a silky finish. Spice Up Your Health: Roasted Cauliflower with a Kick
The Graves’ Disease Chef - Mina Grace Ward
SILVER & SALT
Hello my Silver haired beauties! I am over the moon to share my newest recipe creation with you. As you may know by now - if you’ve been reading my Food and Lifestyle column “Silver + Salt” - I love to Chef using plant-based wholesome, clean, organic ingredients. If you follow my Instagram account, The Graves’ Disease Chef you know I also love to share cooking demos with you whenever I can – especially international dishes from around the world. I thought it would be fun for us to visit Peru in May without having to leave home. What do you say? Shall we?! Welcome to The Graves’ Disease Chef’s version of “Roasted Cauliflower” Peruvian inspired. It’s a delicious and nutritious main dish that takes center stage instead of being relegated as a side dish. Not in The Graves’ Disease Chef’s Kitchen. Not only do we embrace our silvers, we are all about adopting a clean, healthy, nutrient dense, plant- forward lifestyle. I’ll show you how this versatile veggie goes from bland and beige to brilliant and colorful with a simple roast. Plus it boasts a surprising range of health benefits. But we're not stoping there, I’m also sharing this flavor and nutrient powerhouse fiery sauce to drizzle or slather when it comes to plating time – depending on your saucy preferences! Roasted Cauliflower: A Cruciferous Champion Cauliflower belongs to the cruciferous vegetable family, known for their cancer-fighting properties. It is a good source of fiber, which keeps you feeling fuller for longer and aids in digestion. Additionally, cauliflower is packed with vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C for a healthy immune system, vitamin K for strong bones, and folate for cell growth and repair. Not too shabby right?! But wait there’s more. The Power of Hot Peppers: Aji Goodness Sauce. Don't be afraid to bring on the heat with hot peppers! Their fiery kick comes from capsaicin, a compound that is often touted to have metabolism boosting properties and aids in reducing cravings. I talk about capsaicin often because I love the spicy. Capsaicin also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps improve circulation. You can probably guess what the secret weapon is in this sauce? Hot peppers. Yes. Aji peppers. They’re the foundation of many Peruvian hot sauces. Aji peppers come in various colors and levels of spiciness, allowing you to customize the heat to your preference. But don’t worry if you can’t source Aji peppers, jalapeno, serrano, and habanero peppers are just as delicious and still pack a fun and healthy punch. Cilantro: More Than Just a Garnish Cilantro isn't just for adding a pop of color or garnish! Not in this sauce and not in my test kitchen. This leafy herb is a good source of antioxidants that fight cell damage and can help protect against chronic diseases. Cilantro is also a natural detoxifier and can aid in digestion. Going Organic: A Healthier Choice? The short answer is yes. While both organic and conventionally grown cauliflower, cilantro, peppers and garlic offer a bounty of health benefits, opting for organic provides additional advantages.

PERUVIAN INSPIRED ROASTED CAULIFLOWER WITH SPICY RED DRIZZLE SAUCE INGREDIENTS 1 – 3 lb. Whole Cauliflower, rinsed and trimmed of leaves 6 - 8 – fresh garlic cloves, minced 3 TBSP – Low sodium Tamari 1 TBSP – freshly squeezed lime juice 1 TBSP – Aji Amarillo paste (found in most Latin or Mexican supermarkets but you can substitute with Korean Gohchujang since it is easier to source) 1 TBSP – dried oregano 1 tsp – ground cumin 1 tsp – Sea Salt ½ tsp – freshly ground peppercorns DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 400F (200C) Trim the bottom of the Cauliflower stem/base to sit evenly and upright in a 10-inch cast iron skillet or oven proof skillet. Add ¼ cup filtered water to the bottom of the skillet Place Cauliflower head in the skillet and cover entire Cauliflower with parchment paper followed by heavy duty aluminum foil. Secure tightly. Roast until softened but not fork tender, approximately 35 to 40 minutes. Time to whip up the Peruvian spice rub while Cauliflower is roasting. Whisk together minced garlic, Tamari, lime juice, Aji pepper paste or Gohchujang, oregano, cumin, salt and pepper. Remove Cauliflower from the oven and carefully remove the foil/parchment wrap. Using a small pastry brush, generously cover the whole Cauliflower head with the spice rub – gently getting the rub in between the florets. Return the Cauliflower back to the oven and finish roasting until fork tender, caramelized and the spice rub has browned – about 15 to 20 minutes. For table presentation, serve the whole Cauliflower head with the Spicy Red Drizzle Sauce on the side or cut into florets and drizzle the sauce over the florets. Serve with steamed rice and salad. Top with fresh cilantro. Enjoy! Peruvian Spicy Red Drizzle Sauce with Cilantro and Hot Peppers

Add 1 TBSP of ice-cold water at a time if you prefer a more pourable consistency. Roasted cauliflower with hot peppers and cilantro is a flavorful and healthy dish that's perfect for any meal. So, fire up your oven, embrace the heat, and enjoy the taste of good health! As they say in Peru – Buen Provecho! I hope you enjoyed this column and that you’ll try this recipe at home.

Tangled Silver Magazine believes that age and experience are things to be cherished and celebrated. We encourage women to embrace their natural selves and recognize the beauty of gray hair. We believe in teaching our daughters and granddaughters to tap into their creativity with passion and enthusiasm, starting at a young age. Our team believes that silver hair is not a sign of letting oneself go, nor does it make a woman look old. We place great importance on friendships and the joy of connecting with sisters over shared passions. At Tangled Silver, we understand that aging gracefully is a unique journey for every woman. There is no right or wrong way to embrace it. Through encouragement, we strive to empower women to embrace their silvers as more than just a color choice. We believe that every woman has a story to share and that every day is a gift. We value laughter and boldness, and we know that positive self-talk is essential for our happiness and the development of young women's understanding of beauty and self-confidence. We are determined to end the stigma surrounding gray hair and celebrate our natural beauty. We believe that supporting other women in their journey towards acceptance and authenticity is crucial. Our online community fosters encouragement and love for one another, leading to more positive and productive social media experiences for women. We love who we are, laugh at ourselves, and inspire those around us to do the same.
