SPEND ONE OR TWO WEEKS IMMERSED IN THE STELLA ADLER TECHNIQUE WORKING WITH OUR WORLD CLASS FACULTY
SUMMER TEEN WORKSHOP 2026
The Technique part of this workshop offers an introduction to the foundation of the Adler approach to Acting. The focus of this part of the workshop is to help the Actor understand and assimilate circumstances as character, will be emphasized, making the work do-able, while engaging the Actors' sensitivity and ability to focus. This scene based part of the workshop is steeped in the Adler technique of circumstances and imagination. It emphasizes the physical and vocal adjustments required from stage to camera work. Only film scripts are used and all work is done on camera. An intensive psycho-physical approach to movement training. In this workshop, actors develop a detailed technique for how the thoughts and feeling of their characters are expressed through physical movement and behavior. During this introductory class, a large emphasis is placed on self-awareness. Actors develop an understanding of their own physical habits and learn techniques for moving beyond those habits. This gives actors the freedom to engage their bodies in new ways in their acting and to make choices that serve the truth of their characters. A step by step process, covering the preparatory work that is done before the final callback audition and the acting breakdown of the full script before the actor arrives on set to shoot. Only film scripts are used and all work is done on camera. Adjusting the actor’s instrument from Stage to film is emphasized. An in-depth exploration into the process of preparing for and taping film and television auditions. After beginning with a brief discussion about the realities of casting and what producers look for, students will be given pages of audition "sides" - spend 15 to 20 minutes preparing - and be put on tape in the same process that is used by all major casting directors, followed by a take-by-take screening of everyone's audition, with a detailed critique from the instructor. Pointers for self-taping, which is becoming the new industry norm, will also be covered. Through the use of theatre games, improvisational exercises, and scene work, the actor learns to leap past boundaries and move forward into strong choices in role playing, characterization, and interrelating. It is a class to explore freedom of imagination and experience acting without a script.

More about Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theatre
Mission Statement Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre – Los Angeles is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to uplifting and enriching our collective humanity through the dramatic arts. Driven by the belief that growth as an actor and growth as a person are the same, our Academy & Theatre provides the tools, training, and discipline to nurture and support actors who are committed not only to the art form, but to a life of social engagement. In addition to our teaching center, we offer public programming and extensive community outreach. About Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre – Los Angeles Over the last 30 years, we have grown from a grassroots acting school into a world-renowned institution for acting and theatre. We are a family of artists and a community of visionaries, and we believe in providing arts education and live performance opportunities to people of all ages who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience live theatre. We are proud to contribute to community development by devoting substantial resources to address the needs of under-served populations and engage students in the arts. As part of our general Outreach Program, Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre – Los Angeles provides free school-day theatrical performances and artist residences to low-income students throughout Los Angeles County. Due to Stella Adler’s location in an under-served, economically disadvantaged area (Hollywood Blvd. at Highland), our Children’s Program prioritizes its outreach to neighborhood schools within walking distance from the Academy’s front door. Other outreach and education initiatives includes: All Access/Pay-What-You-Can Nights; Student and Senior Discounts; and Social ACTivism, our innovative work study program that allows outstanding students to participate in our Academy on scholarship by “paying it back” to the community.
