Haggerty Runs Ragnar NH for Friends of Haggerty! A devoted group from our Haggerty Community ran the Ragnar Relay Race this past weekend to raise funds for our Friends of Haggerty non-profit. The race started at Attitash Mountain, NH at 8:30AM Friday morning (Sept. 15), and the ten runners passed off "the baton" (slap bracelet) until they reached Hampton Beach, NH at 3:30PM on Saturday afternoon. Each runner ran 3 legs, of various miles, throughout the daylight and nighttime hours. They finished the 200 mile journey in 31 hours. The weather and scenery were beautiful! They were sponsored by eight local business donors: Bonny's Garden Center, Cambridge Honda, Galluccio & Watson, LLP, Cambridge Pediatric Dental Associates, the LilyPad, the MacArthur Construction Company, Cambridge Children's Dentistry, and the Druid, as well as many personal donations from friends, family and our community! We thank all for their support! It's not too late to donate to benefit enrichment at our school! Here's the link: https://gofund.me/d0df0e69 Runners (grade of child) (starting on left): Lepka Gagoska (1st), Lissa Galluccio (staff), Amanda Prince (2nd), Diego Macias (3rd & 5th), Darl Andrew Packard (K ), Rudolph Pienaar , Caroline Logan (2nd & 3rd), Borjan Gagoski (1st), Zac Cardwell (K & 3rd), and Margo Levine (5th).

Coach’s Corner Welcome back from summer! It’s been so wonderful to see your children learning math. We have a new curriculum this year called Illustrative Math. If you want to learn about the first unit for each grade, you can find more information here. There is a video and a letter for each grade. The letter is also available in Spanish if you scroll to the bottom of the letter page. Videos for Unit 1 Letters for Unit 1 Kindergarten Unit 1 Video Kindergarten Unit 1 Letter Grade 1 Unit 1 Video Grade 1 Unit 1 Letter Grade 2 Unit 1 Video Grade 2 Unit 1 Letter Grade 3 Unit 1 Video Grade 3 Unit 1 Letter Grade 4 Unit 1 Video Grade 4 Unit 1 Letter Grade 5 Unit 1 Video Grade 5 Unit 1 Letter ALSO we need a volunteer to help with some of our new curriculum materials!! Illustrative Math has many fun activities where students sort interesting cards. The district had them printed and cut on sturdy paper, but we need help organizing them. Please let Nili (npearlmutter@cpsd.us) know if you could occasionally come in at drop off time and help collate cards for 45 minutes or so. Yours in Math, Nili, AKA Ms. Pearlmutter, Haggerty Math Coach
Note from Our Librarian Brianna Mency I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Brianna Mency, and I will be your scholars’ Library Media Specialist this year. While this is my first year teaching at Haggerty, it will be my eighth year teaching library. My vision for library classes this year is to make the library a supportive, dynamic, and inclusive space where one’s curiosities can be explored and cultivated. Furthermore, my goal is to help foster scholars’ academic and social growth. Currently, grades four and five are working on a video project about their life as a reader. Grade three is learning how the library is organized. Kindergarten to second grade are learning about book care. Each classroom has a library class once a week, and are able to check out books. How many books can students take out at a time? JK-1st: 1 book 2nd: 2 books 3rd-5th: 3 books If at any time you have any questions or concerns please contact me. You can email me at bmency@cpsd.us. Ms. Mency, Library Media Specialist
Arrival Notes As a reminder about dropping off your children in the morning, please do not stop in the bus lane in front of school. The bus lane is directly in front of school, before the crosswalk. If you need to do a live drop off (meaning you aren't coming inside, please pull past our crossing guard. If you would like to walk your child into school, please find a parking space. Also please remember to use the crosswalks. It truly helps to keep everyone safe! If you are dropping your children at school, please drop off after 7:20AM.

TECH Corner by Kevin McGonegal (Technology Instructor) The Classlink Launchpad: The Portal to All CPS Learning Apps There are many online academic resources available to Haggerty students on home computers via the Classlink Launchpad! By logging into the Launchpad with their CPS Google Accounts, our students can access the same apps we use in school, which depending on grade level may include many or all academic subjects, plus keyboarding and coding activities as well as access to all of our Library databases and resources. The Launchpad is a "Single Sign-on" system, meaning once they log into it with their Google account, their password for all of our various apps will be filled in automatically. It's like magic! If interested, please reach out to Suzanne Russell - SRussell@cpsd.us Thanks for your consideration, Suzanne Haggerty Literacy Coach
Food, Nutrition, & Gardening National Hispanic Heritage Month has begun! Wondering why the month begins and ends on the 15th instead of the 1st and 30th? The timing is inclusive for Costa Rico, El Salvadore, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Belize and Chili to all celebrate independence on their respective days during the month– read here to learn more! The Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino compiled suggestions for recipes to try this month to celebrate and learn, including these: Chimichurri - parsley, garlic, red onion, red wine, cumin, and olive oil come together to top grilled fish or chicken. Mofongo - Try this kid-friendly version with tips on how to get our young friends more involved, or, if you’d prefer baking plantains instead of frying them, try this Old-Style Mofongo recipe instead. The first official day of autumn is this Saturday, the 23rd, which is also the autumn equinox. This Saturday, and the spring equinox, are the two days of the year where there will be roughly the same amount of daylight as there is night. School Advisory Council (SAC) A school council is a representative school based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, and community members. School councils are required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C. The primary responsibility of the school council is to advise and assist the Principal with activities associated with the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and to help develop any projects arising out of the SIP that the Principal identifies as beneficial to the successful functioning and development of the school. The school council meets each month during the academic year. As mandated by the MA Open Meeting Law, school council meetings are open to the public who are invited to attend. The council does not address any issues regarding individual students. Any public address regarding individual students is not appropriate.
