Music Corner Hello and welcome to the new school year! Haggerty has two music teachers - Lilly Ahn (Ms. Lilly), who is new to our school this year, and teaches grades 3 and 4, and Shelley Irvin (Mx. Irvin), who teaches JK-2. Both Ms. Lilly and Mx. Irvin will co-direct Haggerty Chorus for grades 3-5. You can reach Ms. Lilly at liahn@cpsd.us and Mx. Irvin at sirvinkent@cpsd.us. Our first Musician of the Month is Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Born in Arkansas, United States in 1915, Sister Rosetta Tharpe is known as the American Godmother of Rock ‘n Roll, with her roots in gospel music. Her style was influential for famous musicians Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley. Learn about Sister Rosetta Tharpe here. Over the year, we’ll collect songs from each musician and add them to our Spotify playlist, where you can listen to them with your child/ren. Haggerty Chorus will begin on Tuesday, October 4. We will rehearse each Tuesday and Friday morning 7:30-8AM in Mx. Irvin’s room (111). This group is an optional before-school activity for students in grades 3-5. When Haggerty Chorus students join, they commit to our chorus for the year. We look forward to singing together! .
Coach’s Corner Come to the Bob Moses Math Trail Kickoff Event! Bob Moses was a Civil Rights leader and a powerful force for math equity. The new Math Trail honors him and is a great way for families to have fun with math outdoors. Join the parade, starting at 10AM, at Sennott Park! Look for me - I hope to see many Haggerty families there. We can march in the parade and explore the Math Trail together. Mathily yours, Nili Pearlmutter, Haggerty Math Coach
