Haggerty Runs Ragnar NH for Friends of Haggerty! A devoted group from our Haggerty Community ran the Ragnar Relay Race this past weekend to raise funds for our Friends of Haggerty non-profit. The race started in Bretton Woods, NH at 8:45AM Friday morning (Sept. 16), and the twelve runners passed off "the baton" (slap bracelet) until they reached Hampton Beach, NH at 4PM on Saturday afternoon. Each runner ran 3 legs, of various miles, throughout the daylight and nighttime hours. They finished the 200 mile journey in 31 hours and 33 minutes. The weather and scenery were beautiful! They were sponsored by three Corporate donors, Cambridge Honda, Galluccio & Watson, LLP, and Cambridge Pediatric Associates, as well as many personal donations from friends, family and our community! We thank all for their support! It's not too late to donate to benefit enrichment at our school! Here's the link: https://gofund.me/b53b9b04 Runners (grade of child) (starting top left): Hester Breen (K), Jean Dany Joachim (5th), Raf Jaramillo (Captain) (2nd & 4th), Sasha Brodsky, Zac Cardwell (K & 2nd), Caroline Logan (1st & 2nd), Amanda Prince (1st). Welcome Back to School 4th Grade! 4th graders in Ms. Burks’ class shared some great ideas with one another during a carousel activity on Tuesday. The students worked in small groups answering four questions: 1) Who would you like to meet? 2) What is something you would like to get better at as a reader? 3) What do you like to write? 4) What’s your super power? The kids had some great conversations and we have some incredible skills and talents in fourth grade. Many students consider their humor, creativity, math skills and kindness to be a super power that will help their classroom community this year.
Coach’s Corner Welcome to a new school year! And a special welcome to all who are new to our Haggerty community. We are so glad you are joining us! I am Nili Pearlmutter, the Haggerty Math Coach. I work across the school, JK-5, and collaborate with teachers on math teaching. We want all of our students to see that math is all around us - it’s not just something we “do” in school. As I’ve been in different rooms this year, I hear teachers asking our students, “Where do you see math outside of school?” Here as some answers I’ve heard: We all use math every day! As you go about your day - cooking, baking, shopping, going from place to place - help your child notice math in the world around us!
Literacy Coach Welcome to a new school year! My name is Suzanne Russell, I am the Literacy Coach at the Haggerty School. I work closely with Patty West, our Early Literacy Interventionist and Biz LaRose our English as Second Language teacher. We are here to support our educators and our students with their literacy skills, reading and writing, throughout the school year. Our school has a abundance of beautiful new books in all of classrooms. We also have many online reading resources. All students can use RAZ Kids, an online reading program. Students can log in from home and practice reading and or listening to books both fiction and nonfiction. Please reach out if you have any questions, we’re happy to help. (Check out Tech Corner in this issue for explicit directions!)
Arrival Notes As a reminder about dropping off your children in the morning, please do not stop in the bus lane in front of school. The bus lane is directly in front of school, before the crosswalk. If you need to do a live drop off (meaning you aren't coming inside, please pull past our crossing guard. If you would like to walk your child into school, please find a parking space. Also please remember to use the crosswalks. It truly helps to keep everyone safe! If you are dropping your children at school, please drop off after 7:25AM.

TECH Corner by Kevin McGonegal (Technology Instructor) The Classlink Launchpad: The Portal to all CPS Learning Apps! There are many online academic resources available to Haggerty students on home computers via the Classlink Launchpad! By logging into the Launchpad with their CPS Google Accounts, our students can access the same apps we use in school, which depending on grade level may include many or all academic subjects, plus keyboarding and coding activities as well as access to all of our Library databases and resources. The Launchpad is a "Single Sign-on" system, meaning once they log into it with their Google account, their password for all of our various apps will be filled in automatically. It's like magic! Check it out at https://launchpad.classlink.com/cpsd If you're unsure of your student's Google login credentials, follow the scheme below. For example, if David Ortiz was a Haggerty Kindergartner with a birthday of July 4, 2015, his login would be: 35dortiz@cpsd.us (the 35 represents 2035, our kindergarteners' year of high school graduation) with a password of 07042015. Drop me a line at kmcgonegal@cpsd.us if you need any help with this! School Advisory Council (SAC) A school council is a representative school based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, and community members. School councils are required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C. With teachers, parents and community members working together, the school council supports school-based planning and goal setting for school improvement. The primary responsibility of the school council is to advise and assist the Principal with activities associated with the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and to help develop any projects arising out of the SIP that the Principal identifies as beneficial to the successful functioning and development of the school. The school council meets each month during the academic year. As mandated by the MA Open Meeting Law, school council meetings are open to the public who are invited to attend. The council does not address any issues regarding individual students. Any public address regarding individual students is not appropriate. Meetings: School Council meetings are scheduled once a month. Exact meeting times are not yet determined. Caregiver Representatives: We need some new ones so please look out for that soon! Questions? Friends of Haggerty (FOH) Friends of Haggerty is looking for caregivers!
