Coach's Corner Dear Families, I hope you will have a terrific summer - and that you will find ways to keep doing math with your child(ren). The Cambridge Math Department has “summer math calendars” for each grade that include a variety of fun math activities. Here is a sample week for students going into Grade 2. Take a look! The calendars also include other resources for continuing to do math, such as suggestions for math related children’s books. I also have lots of resources on my Haggerty Math page, including games you can play at home with simple resources like paper, pencil, dice and cards. Have a wonderful, mathy summer! Nili Pearlmutter, Haggerty Math Coach
Friends of Haggerty Spring Appeal - final days! As this school year comes to a close, a brief reminder that there is still time to donate to our Friends of Haggerty (501(c)3)! You can mail a check to school (Friends of Haggerty, 110 Cushing Street, Cambridge, MA 02138). So many of our wonderful enriching activities are supported by Friends of Haggerty, and almost all the funding comes from just two direct appeals a year to our community. You can look for the Friend's Hands Logo in all the Holler's to see just all the good stuff that Friends of Haggerty provides for our students. Your help is appreciated and no donation is too small! Thank you! Friends of Haggerty Board Members
Fifth Graders Moving On! Our fifth graders commemorated their moving on from Haggerty with a reflection filled, school-wide assembly on Thursday, June 20th. The students prepared skits with some of their favorite memories of each grade, Kindergarten through 5th grade. They reminisced about hatching chicks, the Lowell Mills field trip, April fools jokes, remote learning, and creating You-Tube projects. Students also placed a memento into a time capsule and a note to their future self, to be opened when they are 18 years old (high school graduation). Nancy, our Principal, congratulated the students and also reminded the fifth graders of their own words, the lessons they have learned during their time at Haggerty, and reminded them to carry that wisdom forward. The students also presented their Legacy Project, a Belonging Garden filled with Native Plants. The students have been hard at work, with the help of former Haggerty parent Kathleen Fitzgerald. It’s a wonderful, natural, and self-sustaining addition to our grounds at the bottom of the steps heading to the playground. After the official assembly, the students and their families stayed in the gym for lunch and celebrations! Thanks to all the fifth grade staff (Ms. Faucher, Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Grassey, and Ms. Grace) and all the caregivers who helped to make this day so special, and to Friends of Haggerty for supporting all the fun and the Legacy Project. Well done fifth graders! Go forth, but please remember we are right here if you need us!

Room 104 Bird Museum! The first grade students in Ms. Russell's classroom culminated their research on birds by presenting a bird museum to their families. Their research and studies were extensive! They created all different kinds of bird feet out of clay. They made a station of various bird food where you were asked to use beak-like tweezers to pick it up. There were student drawn illustrations and student authored books. It was an amazing display of a lot of hard work! Well done first graders!
