STEAM Night Fun! On Thursday, May 9th Haggerty held their annual STEAM Night! The night was filled with wonderfully interactive stations. Here's a link to the Passport in case you missed it! We had stations too numerous to list, but special thanks this year to RoboHub who came and brought a drone obstacle course, the robotic dog SPOT, and FIRST Robotics! Students really loved driving their own drones. Thanks also to the many staff and caregivers who ran stations this year including Kevin McGonegal, Nili Pearlmutter, Margie Singer, Brianna Mency, Elise Faucher, Jolene Stewart, Anthony Reynolds, Amanda Prince, Levi Watkin, David Rand, Kathleen Fitzgerald and Raf Jaramillo. Thanks also to the continued support of our community partners: Cambridge Math Circle, CitySprouts, Find It Cambridge, Department of Public Works, Cambridge Public Library and All In Energy! Thanks also to Bethany Versoy for taking photos. And Friends of Haggerty for making it possible!
Art Corner by Anthony Reynolds, Art Teacher Some whole school, long-term projects are starting to come together. In the art room, a couple projects that have had many hands working on them throughout the year include a drip art mural in the style of Jen Stark, located beneath the art room Smartboard. Here is fourth grader Shan working on the drip mural. Another ongoing collaborative project has been creating a new Martin Luther King, Jr. mural to replace the one that had faded that hung on a gym window. Students, like Josephine here, have been plugging away at the portrait under Mr. Reynolds guidance for months, and it is almost finished and ready to hang. During STEAM Night, we made awesome Marble Mazes! Here is kindergarten student Parker making a marble maze with his family.
Annual Haggerty Talent Show Shines! On Thursday, May 23rd, many of our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students took to the stage of the Russell Youth Center to dazzle us with their talents. We had 34 acts, including but not limited to: gymnastics, musical instruments, physical feats, comedy, singing, and so much more. The talent was abundant and the audience was glued to their seats! We also had 17 students who helped to host the show. It's a student-run adventure and this year the student's really out did themselves. Congratulations to all involved! Thanks to the staff members who help with the week-long rehearsals and show: Jessica Joseph, Katie Grassey, Patricia Foen, Jill Self, Sarah Russell and Lissa Galluccio (and Kevin McGonegal for technical assistance!).
Haggerty Visits The Cambridge Homes The Haggerty Chorus The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Haggerty Chorus walked to the Cambridge Homes on May 20th for a performance. They sang 8 songs to an enthusiastic audience of residents and staff of the Cambridge Homes. After their performance the residents asked the students questions and also shared about themselves. The students were given a little tour of the garden, and got to meet their pet turtle Eugene. The students were amazing! A big thanks to Mx. Irvin, chorus director! Here's one video from the chorus. Grade 5 Longsword Team Ms. Susie would like to congratulate our 5th Grade Longsword Team for their brilliant performance at the Cambridge Homes! I proudly showed this photo of their excellent lock to my adult dancer friends who were all suitably impressed. The team has worked beautifully together most every Tuesday morning before school. They demonstrated their skills and ability to work together to create something beautiful in front of a live audience!
Staff Appreciation Luncheon - Wednesday, June 5th Every spring, families celebrate the teachers and staff who make the Haggerty School a wonderful place to grow and learn by sending in food for them to enjoy as a staff luncheon together. It's typically the early release day in June - this year June 5th. If caregivers can send in food on June 5th, it would be greatly appreciated. Haggerty Staff Appreciation Luncheon! Wednesday, June 5th (Early Release Day) | 12:15 - 1:15PM | Haggerty Gymnasium Can you help? Please let us know: Link to Form: https://forms.gle/7oEm83aaQvLPw5Hv8
Library Corner by Brianna Mency, Librarian In April, students engaged in the Haggerty Readers Book Club were given the opportunity to create a Book Review. They had the option to produce a slideshow or video sharing their thoughts on a book of their choice. Two fourth-grade students collaborated to create a Book Review Video featuring the book "Air" by Monica Roe. I encourage everyone to view the wonderful video created by Sadie and Mila by clicking on the image below.
