Haggerty Fall Fun Day! On Wednesday, November 23, we celebrated Haggerty Fall Fun Day, hosted by Coach Materazzo in the gymnasium. Grades JK - 3rd grade took turns with collaborative games using scooters, noodles, and a huge beach ball. One highlight was a partner scooter race between Mr. Kuo and Coach Materazzo against Ms. Brianna and Ms. Martin (winning team by a nose). Grades 4 and 5 each played volleyball. It was a very fun day to express our gratitude for each other. Thanks Coach Materazzo for the fun day before Thanksgiving break.
Maybe you have noticed some staff members wearing Haggerty shirts and sweatshirts? We created this sale of Haggerty "swag" with the goal of fundraising enough money to buy every Haggerty student a Haggerty shirt. We want to open up this offer to our caregivers! The proceeds from your purchase will go towards purchasing a t-shirt (a different style than is being offered here) for every Haggerty student. So your student will be getting a t-shirt in the Spring, whether you purchase anything now or not. For this sale, you're welcome to buy as many items as you'd like, or there is an option to donate to the fundraiser if you do not want merchandise! We are excited to be able to offer Haggerty merchandise for sale to our families! This year, we piloted a Rainbow Club at the Haggerty School. Students in fourth and fifth grade have had the opportunity to come together on Fridays and it has been a positive experience! Now we will give this opportunity to the lower grades. We will begin to offer this to first grade in December and to second grade in January. What is a Rainbow Club? A Rainbow Club is an elementary school version of a GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance). At the middle and high school level, a GSA provides a safe and supportive place for LGBTQ+ students and allies to create community. At the elementary school level, these clubs can address topics of family, identity, and respect. They can be a space for LGBTQ+ families, students and allies to connect and hold space for each other. Rainbow Clubs promote a safe, healthy school climate, and an anti-bullying message. When can my student attend? Interested First graders can join us on Friday, December 9 at 11-11:30AM. There will be a sign up in their classes. Depending on interest, there will be a limit to the number of students joining me during their lunch time. Thank you for your support of this important initiative! Heather Powers and Biz LaRose
