THE ANCHOR
November 2022
Welcome back to year two of The Anchor Magazine. As we commence the year, we would like to take you on a "behind-the-scenes" journey of our most major night yet- the Fall 2022 Fashion show. The viewing showcased the most extravagantly sweeping medley of student talent imaginable. From makeup artists and models to designers and photographers, the entire community of Arlington High School came together and brought their best. We could not be more thrilled with the results. The eccentric theme- futurism- made this far beyond a night to remember. Metals, sharp silouhettes, wire binding, latex materials, and celestial-inspired looks filled the stage. Models pranced in futuristic ensembles in outfits curated by student designers. Each designer interpreted the theme in their own unique way, and we hope to give you an insider scoop of what significance the theme held for each designer. Between these pages, you will discover some of our secrets about how this show happened. From interviews with the show's designers to behind the scenes and backstage photos, we tell all in this issue. We hope you enjoyed the show, and cannot wait to share what's next with you. We present to you, the November 2022 issue. - The Anchor Magazine

"I learned how many diversely skilled people we have in the Arlington community. everyone is so creative, artistic, and talented which made doing the show even more enjoyable than it already was." - Rosalee Galanopoulos (Head of Makeup)
In the booth at the rear of the auditorium sat the voice behind the fashion show- our MC, Chloe Dunne. As the host for the evening, she ensured the group stayed on schedule while keeping our audience engaged, and she had a fun time doing it. Her favorite part of the job of MC was watching the audience from the booth. “I got to see all of their reactions, hear their excitement, and watch how all the designs moved them,” Dunne stated. Fashion holds an important pillar in Dunne’s daily life, “When I am wearing a better outfit, I feel better about myself,” she explained. Fashion plays an important role in boosting her confidence. In the end, Dunne was proud of the outcome of her work. “I took away so much,” she said. In the future, she hopes to make a career for herself in the fashion industry. “It actually made me interested in doing something like that for a career, especially after all the positive feedback I got!”

FUTURISM
THE SHOW'S THEME, EXPLAINED.
The theme of our show surrounds the idea of futurism- the dynamism, speed, energy, and power of the machine and the vitality, change, and restlessness of the modern world. The fashion industry has long been fascinated by how clothing and the body will work together in the future. The show's designers were given the freedom to interpret the theme, futurism, however they creatively wished.
"Individuality and self-expression is so important, and is often done through fashion. Fashion is art- it unifies communities and supports individuality, and this show did exactly that. It provided students of Arlington and the surrounding community to express themselves and their myriad of creative expertise in a way that was so exceptional." - Angelina Galanopoulos (Show Director)

OUT OF THIS WORLD
A collection created in the name of retrofuturism by Angelina Galanopoulos
Angelina Galanopoulos created Collection One of The Anchor Magazine's Fall Fashion Show. Galanopoulos was the show's director, and her collection surrounded the idea of "Retrofuturism." It featured out-of-this-world looks created with brightly-colored and shiny materials and futuristic eyewear for some models. When asked if there was any inspiration for this collection, Galanopoulos said that her main inspiration was Versace's Fall 2021 Fashion Show. The aspect she found most inspirational from the show was the monochromatic concepts. The Dior Fall- Winter Fashion Show 2022-2023 was also interesting to Galanopoulos. "Retrofuturism" is a complex word. When asked what it means to her, the creator of this collection was able to define it. "I think that, to me, it means innovation- it allows science, art, and technology to blend in a way that creates creativity like no other," she stated. She also explained how it disrupts the "current progressing ideas of today" and allows for a moment of retrospect. The materials she used in designing the collection were crucial to its futuristic aesthetic. She used spandex, latex, wire, pearl decals, and piping. "I wanted my looks to be industrial, and I needed to achieve this through the material," she concluded. This collection was a solid start to The Anchor Magazine's Fall Fashion Show.

The Playerz Club
By Jake Mason
The Second Collection featured in The Anchor Magazine's Fall Fashion Show was curated by a local business owner and Arlington senior, Jake Mason. Mason owns The Playerz Club 845 in Pleasant Valley. He has had a love for shoes since he was young. "When I was old enough to get a job, I began collecting shoes with my extra money. I began "flipping" [selling] some and realized there was a serious market for sneakers," Mason said about the backstory of his business. His favorite part of being a business owner is that "you get what you give." "The business owner dictates how well a business does. If you put forth your best effort and give 110% with everything you do, you will never fail to be successful", he says. The most challenging part of being in the sneaker and luxury resale industry is the amount of competition, according to Mason. He commented that competing with large resale websites such as Goat and Stock X is very hard. His favorite piece from his collection at the fashion show was the Off-White Vulcan high-top sneakers. "My father is really into shoes as well. When I showed him [the shoes], he immediately fell in love, so I got him a matching pair", stated Mason. On the topic of his collection at The

Anchor Magazine's Fall Fashion Show, he reflected on how he enjoyed being a part of it. He described it as "a completely new experience." "Everyone worked very well as a team, and I've never seen such chemistry as a group. Everyone wanted to be there and put on an amazing show", he said. Mason added that "it was emotional" to see his clothes worn on a runway and described it as "a dream come true."

WIRE'D
The WIRE'D collection by designer Leah Jerome was the Third Collection featured in the show. This collection featured all different combinations of colors, styles, and clothing shapes, giving it a unique look. Jerome is a senior at Arlington High School, and she plays a prominent role in The Anchor Magazine. Hence the name "WIRE'D" Jerome used a large amount of wire in her clothing line. In addition to wire, she used spandex, dye, and lots of yarn. When asked what "WIRE'D" means to her, Jerome gave insight into her thoughts on her collection. "To me, WIRE'D is peace. Simple patterns combined with intricate silhouettes play into the mix of energies flowing through each piece", she said. She also stated that WIRE'D is up to the audience's interpretation. "At its core, WIRE'D is art. Which means you get to decide." The inspiration behind this collection was based on Jerome seeing a bag of free wire hangers. She ended up playing around with them and creating all the different types of art with them, which turned into many of her clothing pieces. She gives her parents a great deal of credit for being her biggest supporters through her creative process. "When you think of WIRE'D, please think of the entire Jerome family," she said. Jerome admits that there were some times that she became "stuck" during the creative process. There were moments when she couldn't look at any more wire or thread. She said she put her hands and feet in some paint and made "process art" to clear her head. Jerome also promotes self-care and frequent breaks to those who may be "stuck." Jerome also offered a big "thank you" to all the models, stage crew members, and "everyone in between" who made her collection possible and offered her support. Even after The Anchor Magazine's Fall Fashion Show, Jerome continues to make clothing. She added that anyone interested in her pieces could have them made custom to their body and can reach out to her through her Instagram account, @_youvebeenjeromed.

The Homegrown Club
The first part of the Fourth Collection was a look created by the AHS Homegrown Club. This look had an eccentric and unique feel to it. It was a bright blue dress with pleats and a rustic vibe with a belt of orange, red, and yellow flowers. The model wore a floral headpiece to compliment the look.

SEAN BURRACK
Sean Burrack created the second part of the fourth collection. Burrack had two pieces in the show, a blue jacket and a red dress. "For the blue jacket, I kind of just had a thought and went through with it. For the red dress, my process was to drape a pattern, then tweak the pattern until it was close to perfect. After that, I cut it out of the final fabric, and it was done", says Burrack on his creative processes. He describes his pieces as a "costume" and "an impulse decision that I made one night." His inspiration was not anything "too special," Burrack stated, he says it was more of an "idea that sounded cool." The red dress' inspiration was from the original Footloose. These pieces contributed significantly to The Anchor Magazine's Fall Fashion Show's overall success.

FALL THRIFTS
The Fifth Collection of The Anchor Magazine's Fall Fashion Show was a collaboration between Angelina Galanopoulos and Amber Tatavitto. This collection was titled "Fall Thrifts." This collection had many different types of looks using different clothing styles on various models. Tatavitto said that the theme of this collection, as the name suggests, was based on "fall vibes." The colors used in this collection helped the designers to achieve this look. "We considered more neutral colors like green, brown, black, beige, and white," she stated when asked what colors she wanted to use when planning the outfits. The inspiration for this fall-themed collection coincided with many popular fall activities. Tatavitto was inspired by all aspects of fall, especially apple picking and picnics. "I was thinking of outfits you could take Instagram pictures in an apple orchard or a farmer's market in," she said. Many outfits were a part of this collection, but Tatavitto had a favorite. Her favorite outfit was a green sweater vest with khaki pants and a belt. This collection was a perfect way to conclude The Anchor Magazine's Fall Fashion Show since it was fall themed.
