Dear AISL Community, The next couple of weeks are exciting for AISL. Next week, we have the MSA Accreditation Visiting Team who will be in our school. They are our critical friends who will look at our practices and procedures and give us independent guidance on the direction we are going and what we should focus on. There are many ways in which school undertake this process and it is not considered an inspection which may imply looking for faults, etc. Accreditation is looking at how the school takes the standards and practices for the association we are with and use them to build a strong school for student learning. There will be areas we can celebrate and areas that they will recommend we spend some time focusing on. I have emailed opportunities for our parents to participate. I want to thank Rohini Pulyadath for chairing our Accreditation preparations. This was a lot of work and she has done a good job getting us prepared. Two weeks after this visit, Tuesday, 2nd May until Thursday, 4th May, my successor, Ms. Kayla Dorsey-Twumasi will be visiting AISL with her husband and daughter. This is an opportunity for me to work with Kayla to ensure a smooth transition from one director to another. We talk about everything that has been happening, what is in process, and where the school is heading. There will hopefully be opportunities for you to meet her once again during those dates. News from the Nurse: Vaccines
Vaccines and vaccination have helped save millions of lives over the years. Vaccines reduce the risk of getting a disease by working with your body's natural defences to build protection. Infants, children, adolescents, teens and adults need different vaccinations depending on their age, health conditions and or previous vaccinations. The measles and rubella vaccine are given through a subcutaneous injection and help shield against measles if exposed to a person with the disease. The signs may be low grade fever, rash on the face and a sore throat. For more information on vaccines and vaccinations click on the links below. Reference 1 Reference 2

In Grade 2, the students have been learning about Opinion Writing. They've learned how to use opinion sentence starters, use linking words to provide reasons with examples to support their thoughts, and finish their writing with a concluding statement. Here are 4 samples of group writing. In their small groups, the students brainstormed ideas and wrote a final piece about why they thought their class was the best class. Check out their work here!
