2024
Dear BCVMA Members, As we transition into the fall season, I want you to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work you have accomplished so far this year and look ahead to what you can do to close 2024 in a great way. This is the time to start discussing health insurance, taxes, and other expenses that will help you close this year on a positive note. Before you know it, it is December, and it is too late to plan things correctly. This is the time to invest in the new equipment you have wanted for a long time. It is time to evaluate expansion plans within your clinic or with your employer. To discuss tax benefits, you may be missing with your accountant and many other available tools to help you become a better veterinarian. This period is typically slow within the veterinary industry, with the back-to-school season and people still getting used to the new school year. At the same time, this a great time to prepare for all the snowbirds we typically receive starting November/December months and all the craziness of the holidays. It is time to renew all your association fees, including the very important AVMA PLIT insurance. This is a very important protection in this ever-growing litigation society. You should always praise and recognize your technicians, but especially during Veterinary Technician Week, which this year is October 13-19. Please make sure to do something special for them. Sometimes, simple details are more memorable and meaningful than expensive gifts. You all know how difficult it is to find good technicians nowadays, so make sure you keep the ones you have happy. As we approach the end of the year, I encourage all members to stay engaged with the association and take advantage of the resources available to you. Our Holiday Party is just around the corner and promises to be an exciting and fun night. Please save the date: December 13th at the Coral Ridge Yacht Club. We will continue to have great meetings the rest of the year, with expert speakers and opportunities to connect with many of our colleagues. I would not like to end this letter without expressing my heartfelt condolences to our past President, Dr. Lisa Feinstein, for the loss of her daughter. As an association, these are the times when we need to support each other, and we want to let her know that we are here for her and her family. Thank you for your continued dedication to our profession and to the animals in your care. Your passion and hard work make a difference every day, and I am proud to serve as your president. I wish you all a productive and fulfilling fall season. Sincerely, Armando Villlamil, DVM, MS, PhD, ACVIM (oncology) BCVMA President
