S ovim filmom i ovom porukom zatvaramo takmičarski program 30. Sarajevo Film Festivala, u nadi da ćemo idući Festival, idući takmičarski program, dočekati u barem malo boljem svijetu“, izjavila je seletkroica Takmičarskog programa igranog filma Elma Tataragić.
DAY OF MOURNING
The screening of Vuk Ršumović's film Dwelling Among the Gods, which addresses the plight of migrants, began with a moment of silence to honor the migrants who tragically lost their lives yesterday.
Moment of Silence for Victims of the Drina River Tragedy Before the World Premiere of a Migrant Film
The Competition Programme – Feature Film at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival concluded with the world premiere of Vuk Ršumović’s Dwelling Among the Gods. This poignant film, based on a true event from 2015, was dedicated to the migrants who tragically died in the Drina River. The screening started with a moment of silence in their honor. “The story of this film takes place in 2015, but unfortunately, these stories continue,” said Ršumović. His film Dwelling Among the Gods follows the journey of a young Afghan woman, Fereshteh, who arrives in Belgrade with her husband and three children after an exhausting journey to Europe. There, she learns that her younger brother Ali, who arrived in Belgrade before them, has drowned and is soon to be buried as an unidentified person. Although Fereshteh lacks personal documents to verify her own identity, she refuses to leave Belgrade before burying her brother under his rightful name. She embarks on a complex process to confirm his identity, using a DNA sample from their father, who is still in Afghanistan. After finally succeeding and receiving permission to claim her brother’s body, Fereshteh discovers that her father wishes to bury his son in Afghanistan. This time, Fereshteh decides to take matters into her own hands. “Every day, we witness violence. We live in a world of aggression, insecurity, a world where many people suffer and die daily. A film cannot immediately respond to everything happening around us, to all the tragedies that surround us, but it is clear that with numerous films at the Festival, including this one today, filmmakers are addressing just that. In this spirit, the film crew and the Sarajevo Film Festival invite you, our loyal audience, to observe a moment of silence for all victims, especially those of this refugee and human tragedy on the Drina River. With this film and this message, we close the Competition Programme – Feature Film of the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, hoping that the next Festival, the next competition program, will be welcomed in at least a slightly better world,” said Elma Tataragić, the selector of the Competition Programme – Feature Film.

UNIQA SEE Future fondacija pruža novu priliku regionalnim filmašicama
UNIQA osiguranje je na 30. Sarajevo Film Festivalu predstavila novu inicijativu unutar svoje UNIQA SEE Future fondacije.
UNIQA SEE Future Foundation Offers New Opportunities for Regional Female Filmmakers
A Better Future
At the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, UNIQA Insurance unveiled a new initiative within its UNIQA SEE Future Foundation. The Foundation, in collaboration with the Sarajevo Film Festival and Slano Film Days, aims to create new opportunities for women in the film industries of the region. The project was introduced by a special guest—legendary tennis player Goran Ivanišević, a UNIQA Insurance ambassador, who first expressed his admiration for the Sarajevo Film Festival. "I am extremely honored to be here. I wanted to come in previous years, but I was always on the American tour at this time. Now that I'm without a job, I had the time to come," Ivanišević said, adding that it was particularly enjoyable to watch an outdoor film for the first time in 40 years. To promote the UNIQA SEE Future Foundation and its initiative for female filmmakers, Sarajevo’s Franc Lehár Street was transformed into a tennis court for a day. Goran Ivanišević played an exhibition match there with actors Nadine Mičić and Boris Ler, as well as with participants from the Gem Tennis Club. "The UNIQA SEE Future Foundation was launched to demonstrate that UNIQA is a socially responsible company not just through words but through actions," emphasized Adel Bahtanović, President of UNIQA SEE Region. The Foundation’s activities will focus on three areas: sports, culture, and sustainability. The first step in sports has already been taken, and now the focus has shifted to culture. "The idea was born to support young talents in the film industry. We decided to focus on young female filmmakers—producers and directors—who have enormous potential in our region," Bahtanović noted. To assist female filmmakers in the region where UNIQA SEE operates (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Montenegro), a competition will be announced for the funding of projects predominantly led by women. This initiative aligns with the Sarajevo Film Festival's efforts to improve gender equality both at the Festival and in regional cinema. "We organize the Festival for both the audience and professionals. The Sarajevo Film Festival is also a platform for the development of cinema in the region. Through programs like Talents Sarajevo, the screening of student films, and many other initiatives, we aim to provide a complete ecosystem for industry professionals, particularly young filmmakers, to transition smoothly from student days to their first festival screenings," said Jovan Marjanović, Director of the Sarajevo Film Festival. He also emphasized the Festival's ongoing commitment to achieving gender parity in film representation, with a 50:50 goal. "Only together can we change things," stated Sonja Marić, Director of Brand and Communications at UNIQA SEE Insurance. "We found the right partner in the Sarajevo Film Festival. Women are creative and bring a new perspective to what they do, as everything women experience is woven into their art." Sub-headings
Conceived as a catalyst for positive social change, the Foundation, in collaboration with the Sarajevo Film Festival and Slano Film Days, will provide funding opportunities for film projects led by women.

Doista posebno. Imate li najdraže glumce? Volim tu staru gardu – Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Denzel Washington.. Ali volim ja i akcijske i komedije, dosta ovisi o tome u kakvom sam raspoloženju. Jedino izbjegavam znanstveno fantastične filmove.

The famous tennis player attended the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival as a UNIQA ambassador, played an exhibition match with actors, and revealed his favourite types of films.
What is it like to be at the Sarajevo Film Festival? It’s fantastic. The atmosphere is great. I enjoyed watching the Coen brothers' film Barton Fink at the Coca-Cola Open-Air Cinema. The film is very interesting, and John Turturro is excellent, but what really impressed me was the atmosphere. I haven’t watched a film in an outdoor cinema for 40 years—the last time was when I was a kid at Bačvice—and now I was reminded of how enjoyable it is to watch a movie outside with so many people. Truly special. Do you have any favorite actors? I love the old guard—Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Denzel Washington. But for me, the atmosphere in which I watch films is also very important. With all the streaming services available—and I have them all—it's much easier to find a movie nowadays, but I’m a cinema person. There’s no better feeling than sinking into a good seat in front of a huge screen, grabbing a bunch of popcorn, and getting lost in the magic of the film. What genres do you prefer? I enjoy watching everything, but if I have to choose, it's thrillers. There's nothing better than a good thriller. But I also like action films and comedies—it often depends on my mood. The only genre I avoid is science fiction.
Nejli Mulić stipendiju „Arman Soldin“ uručili su Loé Lagrange, direktorica Francuskog instituta u Bosni i Hercegovini, i François Delmas, ambasador Francuske u Bosni i Hercegovini.

Nejla Mulić, a student, has been awarded the inaugural "Arman Soldin" scholarship, which was ceremoniously presented yesterday at the European House of Culture and National Minorities (Austrian House) during the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival. The scholarship, worth 5,000 BAM, was established in memory of Arman Soldin, a journalist and video coordinator for Agence France-Presse (AFP) who tragically lost his life, and it was awarded to Mulić for her animated documentary series project about courageous women who resisted fascism. "The project is inspired by all the women who contributed to the anti-fascist struggle and the cultural and social fabric of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's essential to highlight female strength and resistance," said Nejla Mulić, the scholarship recipient. The scholarship was awarded by Obala Art Center, the French Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the French Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. The scholarship was established in memory of Arman Soldin (1991–2023), a journalist and video coordinator for Agence France-Presse (AFP), who tragically lost his life in May 2023 while reporting from the war in Ukraine. The "Arman Soldin" scholarship was presented to Nejla Mulić by Loé Lagrange, Director of the French Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and François Delmas, French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina. "Arman Soldin's death while doing his job deeply moved Sarajevo, his hometown, and all of France," said François Delmas, adding that Arman, as both a Sarajevan and a Frenchman, was a bridge connecting the two countries. Arman Soldin was a former master's student in the Department of Production and Management at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, where he left an indelible mark as an exceptionally talented, dedicated, and empathetic colleague. The scholarship bearing his name is intended to support students whose projects focus on social justice and community engagement, from human rights to environmental issues, in line with the values Arman fearlessly championed. Before the award ceremony, an emotional short film was shown, featuring footage Arman captured while reporting from war-torn Ukraine, as well as a television clip of his childhood singing performance. "We hope this award will inspire all current and future students of film and TV production to continue addressing important issues, while also reminding us of the significant legacy Arman left behind," said Jovan Marjanović, Director of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
Sub-headings
Mirjana Karanović: “People in Sarajevo Enjoy Coming to See the Films"
As part of the Grand Coffee with... programme at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, on August 22, an interview was held with the crew of the film Mother Mara.
Director and actress Mirjana Karanović, film producer Snežana van Houwelingen and actor Vučić Perović took part in the conversation. Mirjana Karanović, who found herself in the director's chair again after the film The Good Woman, after premiere pointed out that she was delighted with the audience's reaction. Regarding the choice of Sarajevo as the place where he will premiere his film, he points out: "Sarajevo is the crown of festivals in this part of the world, a festival that has very strict criteria regarding the selection and screening of films not only in the official program, but also in all other programmes. Sarajevo is unique because the people who live in Sarajevo like to come to the movies, it is not a festival where only experts and people who watch movies watch movies. Students are clamoring for tickets for documentary films, you can see how much interest there is in screenings, that's what makes everyone happy, to be at a festival where the halls are full. It is understandable why people like to come here, because the whole city is a festival here." Snežana van Houwelingen emphasized that Mother Mara is part of CineLink, that they started their first meetings at the Sarajevo Film Festival and encouraged co-productions made up of five countries. "Besides Serbia, there is Switzerland, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This project has a lot to do with Sarajevo from the very beginning. As for the co-production, we looked to surround ourselves with friends, we had authors and actors from these countries, that was both an advantage and a challenge, because Mirjana had to collaborate with people she had never met before, whose work she did not know. She had the desire to no longer make a film about some poor, tortured woman who lives in some dilapidated apartment where the entire film takes place, but to present one character, Mara, as a different, atypical character for these areas, and therefore this film is also atypical ", said van Houwelingen. Karanović connects the idea for the script and the story to the play she did a long time ago in Zenica called "We are the ones our parents warned us about", and the character of Mara, who also lost her son and the happiness of a young man, and that this is what she became very connected. About his collaboration with Mirjana Karanović, actor Vučić Perović points out that he is very familiar with her work, and that this is not the first project on which they have collaborated. "I don't think I had any problems filming sex scenes, I somehow consider it part of my job, I'm not afraid when these things need to happen. The professional relationship I had with Mirjana, not only in this project, made things a lot easier for me. Some things were created on the set itself, some things we agreed on the fly. It was a great experience for me to be part of this project and I would like every young person to work with Mira, because I think it is very important. Cooperation with her has always benefited me and will always benefit me, said Perović. Regarding his plans for the future, the actor points out that he is currently involved in the theater, and that he has one film that will be released soon, but that he is still not part of the hyperproduction of series that are filmed in Serbia. "I think that this path I am choosing is perhaps more difficult, but it is more beautiful and longer. We'll see how long we can last." The film Mother Mara had its world premiere at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, and it was shown as a special gala screening within the Competition Programme - Feature Film, out of competition. U skladu sa svojim opredjeljenjem ka postizanju Net Zero misije – nulte stope onečišćenja, ovom inicijativom Sarajevo Film Festival nastoji doprinijeti podizanju svijesti o zaštiti planete. Kroz intimnu rekonstrukciju jednog telefonskog poziva, film KADA JE ZAZVONIO TELEFON istražuje osjećaj dislokacije i prirodu sjećanja. Through an intimate reconstruction of an important phone call, WHEN THE PHONE RANG investigates dislocation and the nature of remembering. In the protagonist’s eleven-year-old mind, a phone call erased her entire country, history, and identity, and hides its existence in books, films, and the memories of those born before 1995.
