ECFE PLAYGROUND: CONNECT & PLAY AGES 0 - 5 INSTRUCTOR: ROXY OLSEN-HURST The Early Learning Connect and Play class is a dynamic and engaging program designed for young children to explore, socialize, and develop essential skills through play-based learning. This interactive opportunity fosters early cognitive, motor, and social development by incorporating open-ended and creative play. Children are encouraged to engage with their peers in a supportive environment, helping to build confidence and communication skills. There will be no formal education or organized projects. Ideal for toddlers and preschoolers, the Connect and Play class nurtures curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning from an early age. When inclement weather arises, Connect & Play will be canceled for the day.

CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECK AGES VARY w/HERMANTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT Hermantown Fire has partnered with Proctor and Hermantown Community Education to provide car seat check appointments for local families. With a team of seven certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians, we’re dedicated to helping parents and caregivers ensure their little ones travel safely. In addition to our regular appointments every second Thursday, we’ll also be at various community events throughout the year, offering car seat safety checks and answering your questions. It’s all part of our commitment to keeping our community safe and informed. June & July individual appointments can be made by contacting Steve Johnson at (218) 491-3979. Great News! Hermantown Fire will be having a mini car seat check set up during the Summer Fest Motor Mania at the Hermantown Community Learning Center on July 16 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm (see page 18 for more details about Motor Mania). Checks will take place on a first come-first served basis.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS CAMP GRADES: 6 - 8 INSTRUCTOR: JESS WORDEN This class is perfect for middle school students who are new to tennis or have little experience. Players will learn the fundamentals, including proper grip, basic strokes, footwork, and game rules. Students will develop their skills, coordination, and confidence on the court through fun drills and games. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! We will meet at the Tennis courts. When inclement weather occurs, a make-up date will be provided.

ELITE TENNIS CAMP GRADES: 9 - 12 INSTRUCTOR: JESS WORDEN This elite camp brings a fun team element to the sport of tennis with a consistent group of players and coaches throughout the summer. With a focus on developing match-play skills through live ball drills and scenarios. Thursday will be match play and tie-breaker practice. Build tennis skills together in a cooperative, team environment.
SOARING ACES TENNIS CAMP GRADES: 3 - 5 INSTRUCTOR: JESS WORDEN Intermediate players develop technical and tactical skills along with the continued development of the fundamentals while playing live drills and matches. HERMANTOWN SPEED & AGILITY GRADES 8 -12 INSTRUCTOR: MR. AKER Led by coach Greg Aker, Hermantown Speed and Strength Training will be taking place over 6 weeks at Hermantown High School from Monday, June 30th through Friday, August 1st. Additionally, weight room availability will be provided during the morning hours between August 4th-August 8th. There is no class on July 4th in observation of the 4th of July.
YOUTH KAYAKING ADVENTURES GRADES 2 - 8 INSTRUCTOR: MR. BORAK & MR. PEDERSEN A guided kayaking adventure awaits! Hermantown Elementary teachers Joe Borak & Chris Pederson are back, and excited to share their passion for the outdoors and our local waterways with you. Beginner kayaking will cover safety, paddling techniques, and trip planning. Be prepared to spend your morning at Pike Lake, Caribou Lake, or Island Lake. No Prior experience is needed! Learn and have fun! Community Ed provides all kayaks and life jackets, but it is helpful if you bring your life jacket to ensure a proper fit. Transportation will be available to and from Hermantown Elementary.

RUN CLUB GRADES K - 5 INSTRUCTOR: GRANDMA'S MARATHON It doesn’t matter whether your kid wants to be the next Grandma’s Marathon champion or just getting started. Our Young Athletes Foundation Running Club is the perfect place for them. Our club meets weekly and provides a fun, engaging training program that culminates with our Minnesota Mile on Friday, September 5th. No experience is necessary; everyone is welcome, from avid runners to first-timers! Entry to the 2025 Minnesota Mile is included with Running Club sign-up.

HERMANTOWN VOLLEYBALL CAMP GRADES 3 - 9 INSTRUCTOR: JESS WILLIAMS This camp is designed to enhance your volleyball skills with high school players and coaches working alongside you! Our camp is centered around skill development using different techniques through the first three days, learning how to pass, set, hit, serve, and general rotation, followed by our two-day round-robin tournament, including dress-up days and treats on Friday. All participants receive a t-shirt with registration.

CRAZY CLAY CREATIONS GRADES K - 5 INSTRUCTOR: COMMUNITY ED Experiment in the wonderful world of ceramics through this two-session workshop! This is a perfect opportunity for kids to learn ceramic hand-building techniques and get their young hands into air-dry clay. Young artists will use their imagination to create unique masterpieces, including pinch and coil pots, mini bowls, and more. The first session will be for sculpting our pieces, and the second session will be used to paint and finish our clay pieces. Please note that all items are air-dry, and no potter’s wheels or kilns will be used during these sessions.

THE UNLEASHED LENS: AGES 9+ INSTRUCTOR: AMY ARNTSON PHOTOGRAPHY & DRONE CAMP The summer camp is split into hands-on photography and drone flying. Students will learn to use their cameras confidently, master composition, capture action shots and portraits, and utilize Canva for creative projects. They will engage in photo challenges and create a personalized portfolio. In the second half, students will practice controlling drones, whether they are beginners or have some experience. Daily activities include obstacle courses and precision landings, culminating in a friendly drone-flying competition to showcase their new skills. *Please note that there is a $45 supply fee (payable to the instructor on the first day). *All students will use the SAME beginner model drone during the instruction, which has limited height capabilities, making it suitable for classroom learning. After the camp ends, you may keep the drone.
ARTIST EXPLORATION: TIE DYE! GRADES VARY INSTRUCTOR: COMMUNITY ED In this exciting project, participants will dive into the colorful world of tie-dye! Each young artist will receive a shirt, a canvas bag, and a bandana to personalize with their unique designs. This hands-on experience will allow them to explore patterns and color combinations, creating vibrant pieces of art they can wear and use. By the end of the workshop, they'll have their collection of tie-dye creations to cherish and show off!
CLAY WIND CHIME GRADES K - 5 INSTRUCTOR: COMMUNITY ED Children will learn to create an impressive clay wind chime, which can enhance your patio's decor or add a touch of charm to your windows. This project will help develop their crafting skills while producing a beautiful piece for your home.

BABYSITTER TRAINING AGES 11+ INSTRUCTOR: ARIANE BROMBERG The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program from the American Safety and Health Institute provides everything you need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The students will receive their certification card and instructions to access a digital copy of the Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Student book at the end of class. From getting started with your business to collaborating with parents and children to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen. If your child is also enrolled in the Home Alone class from 12:30-2:30 pm the same day, please send a cold lunch for your child to eat in between classes.

GREEN THUMB GARDENING GRADES K - 5 INSTRUCTOR: COMMUNITY ED Get ready for an exciting summer adventure with our K-5 Summer Club focused on gardening and cooking! In this interactive program, students will assist in maintaining our HCLC garden, discovering plant care, sustainability, and the benefits of fresh produce. We harvest vegetables and herbs each week to create tasty, healthy recipes that kids will prepare and enjoy together. This club nurtures a love for nature and cooking while promoting teamwork, creativity, and healthy eating habits, making it an ideal summer experience for aspiring chefs and young gardeners! Please note that there is no class June 30 & July 28.
HOME ALONE AGES 8+ INSTRUCTOR: ARIANE BROMBERG Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether it is for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class for children will address several topics relating to be “Home Alone” including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls, and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, serve weather, fire safety, intruders and first aid tips. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child. If your child is also enrolled in the Babysitter Training class from 9:00 - 12:00 pm the same day, please send a cold lunch for your child to eat in between classes.

PROCTOR HUNGRY FOR KINDERGARTEN GRADE K INSTRUCTOR: K EDUCATOR Follow “The Very Hungry Caterpillar'' by Eric Carle as he learns what Kindergarten is all about. This class is open to students entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2025. Students will participate in a classroom enriched by abundant books, words, letters, numbers, and other instructional aids. Various learning centers will allow students to explore and interact socially. In addition to academic skills, students will work on projects promoting fine motor skills, handwriting, and independence. Snack, music, movement, and outdoor experiences will be part of each day ensuing wellness and group play.
Additional information, including dates and times, will be available mid spring via the Peachjar flyer distribution services. This learning opportunity is free due to a grant, and it will be offered at Bay View Elementary and Pike Lake Elementary schools.

PROCTOR JUMPSTART TO FIRST GRADE GRADE 1 INSTRUCTOR: 1st GRADE EDUCATOR Students will participate in exciting classroom experiences to help them review and prepare for the first grade. Writing, reading, phonics, math centers and mini-lessons will be provided daily. Small groups will also help your child work on skills at their level as they review what was taught in Kindergarten. A short recess will be provided as an activity break each day. Please send a water bottle with your child. This class is open to students entering the first grade in Fall 2025 at BayView & Pike Lake Elementary schools.

Experienced naturalists will guide students as they observe these majestic birds up close, participate in bird banding, and engage in fun, educational games. 50+ TOTAL BODY FITNESS AGES 50+ Shannon Polson, our fitness expert from Reps & Sets, leads an age-appropriate 45-minute strength and cardio session! Participants will focus on a more efficient way of living with specifically designed strength exercises while increasing their endurance with light cardio. Each session includes a warm-up and cool-down where we'll focus on balance and flexibility. No equipment is needed; however, if you have a pair of light weights, please bring them to class! No exercise experience is needed. Wear comfortable clothes and proper footwear.
