As we enter March, your BCBA is proud to join the nation in celebrating Women’s History Month, honoring the contributions of women to our culture, history, and society. As with Black History Month, our reflection this month inspires BCBA’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which we strive to uphold year-round. The diversity of our community at large is a strength, not a weakness. For a profession built on service of others, it is also vital that our profession and our organization reflect the diversity of our larger community. For these reasons, and many others, the BCBA continues to recognize the importance of building diversity in our ranks. I would be remiss at this moment to not mention that we will soon be entering our drive for applicants to join the BCBA Board or to Chair a section. I encourage all our members to consider applying to be engaged in a leadership role with your BCBA. And if you are unable to apply to Board membership currently, please consider encouraging your colleagues to apply. If you have questions about Board membership or being a section Chair, please feel free to reach out to myself or any of my fellow Board members.

Speaking of service to others, we are also getting ready for our revamped fundraising event for Colorado Legal Services. Last year’s Jazz for Justice is old news. For 2026 we have the Pro Bono Bash! We have partnered with the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado, and we are excited to announce that this year’s event will be a whole new celebration of the people who make access to justice possible and the people that support them. Mark your calendar for April 11th so you don’t miss out! The need for the services provided by the Colorado Legal Services is surging, so this year’s Bash is one way you can contribute to trying to meet that need. The quality and fairness of our justice system is an integral part of our legal profession whether we are attorneys practicing in the Court system, judicial officers, or attorneys whose practices never take us into Court. One part of ensuring the quality and fairness of our justice system is addressing access to justice. There are multiple ways we can all work to address and support access to justice, including donations of time or money, but also steps that won’t cost you anything. Donations supporting Colorado Legal Services, to include attending the Bash or even sponsoring the Bash this year, and other legal nonprofits. Volunteering your time with the BCBA legal clinics and other clinic opportunities. Selecting a COLTAF Prime Partner bank for your COLTAF account, as those banks agree to pay a higher interest rate to COLTAF, all of which is then used to support access to justice programs. For volunteering your time, March also brings an exciting new tool for Colorado attorneys. The Colorado Access to Justice Commission is launching the Pro Bono CO portal on March16th. It will be a statewide portal to connect legal professionals with meaningful pro bono opportunities. You will be able to review the portal for opportunities without logging in, but you can also create a profile to receive alerts for opportunities that align with your interests. Join me in checking out the portal later this month! March for me won’t be all law though! The PWHL (professional women’s hockey) returns to Denver for a Takeover Tour stop on March 15th and some of the players are fresh off the US Women’s Olympic gold medal and Canadian Women’s Olympic silver medal wins. My wife and I will be in attendance with my young nephew visiting from Kansas (he is extra excited because our seats are next to the penalty box). Then on March 28th, our new Denver Summit NWSL team (women’s professional soccer) has their very first home game being played at Mile High. I will absolutely be there, as will over 45,000 other fans (last count). If you are in attendance, make sure to say Hi! Also, the BCBA has a new opportunity for our members in March. On March 29th there will be a BCBA Orange Theory class. So put your workout clothes on and join us (yep, I will be a participant) for some Orange Theory. I hope you find time in March to enjoy all that our beautiful State has to offer, both inside and outside. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming function or out and about in the wild.

Colorado Access to Justice Commission launches Pro Bono CO, Colorado’s pro bono clearinghouse, on March 16, 2026: A gateway to volunteer opportunities for legal professionals that make a difference Mark your calendar! On March 16, 2026, Colorado will launch Pro Bono CO, a clearinghouse of pro bono opportunities to help lawyers and other legal professionals connect to meaningful pro bono service that fits their skill sets and time. In my current role with the Colorado Access to Justice Commission, I have been fortunate enough to work on the development of Pro Bono CO. As the former Colorado Legal Services (CLS) Managing Attorney at the Boulder Office, I always considered pro bono work to be a significant part of our program. Pro bono volunteers allowed us to serve countless clients with compelling cases we could not have served using our limited staff resources. Pro Bono CO will amplify the recruitment efforts of organizations like CLS, the Boulder County Bar Association’s Virtual Free Legal Clinic, and others. This tool will help them attract more volunteers and demonstrate the wide range of pro bono opportunities available. Attorneys often consider pro bono work among the most meaningful of their careers. In the American Bar Association Supporting Justice V Survey (2024), the respondents noted their motivations for doing pro bono work. These included: “I felt accomplished as a lawyer after my first pro bono case.” “I feel that doing pro bono work makes me a good role model.” “I feel like I made a difference doing pro bono work.” “I feel more connected to my community after doing pro bono work.” “I feel happy doing pro bono work.” “My career is meaningful from doing pro bono work.” “I feel valued by my organization for my pro bono work.” Pro bono work is integral to attorney well-being and connects our profession to our communities in important ways. 50% of the respondents ranked pro bono work as “very important”, and 27% ranked it as “somewhat important”. Despite that, only 28.6% of respondents indicated that they were “very likely” to provide pro bono service in the following year. In developing Pro Bono CO, one pivotal takeaway was that attorneys did not know where to look for opportunities, and organizations lacked a centralized place to post. Our collaborative partners envisioned a free tool for both legal service providers and volunteers that would be easy to use. I leveraged my personal experiences in the CLS Boulder office and those of other legal aid workers to build features that would work well within current legal aid programs. Additionally, I engaged in resource mapping and stakeholder engagement with other court staff, law firm pro bono counsel, new lawyers, and other legal professionals. We began user testing in October 2025

and further refined this platform. Countless voices across the state contributed to this project and helped us develop Pro Bono CO as a useful tool for pro bono work. Pro Bono CO is an online clearinghouse of pro bono opportunities designed for legal professionals who are looking for a way to serve the community, amplify access to justice, and provide legal expertise for people in need. Created by the Colorado Access to Justice Commission, this tool is free to use for both legal service providers and volunteers. We have incorporated several features to make finding pro bono opportunities easy. Here are the features we incorporated, with attorney experience in mind: Professionals may browse opportunities without creating a profile. Professionals can search by a variety of criteria, including organization, opportunity type, practice area, and location. When volunteers create a profile, they can elect to receive alerts when opportunities that match their selected criteria are posted Professionals can track their pro bono hours. I will be hosting several live demos of Pro Bono CO via Zoom in anticipation of its launch on March 16, 2026. Anyone is welcome to join these demos to learn more about this tool. The demos are as follows: 3/2- 4 PM: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87346001377 3/10- Noon: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82640874668https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82640874668 3/12- Noon: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/84015554834 3/16- LAUNCH DAY- 3 PM: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88582871573 Create your profile at probonoco.org on March 16, 2026, and start making a difference. Every hour you give, every case you take, and every client you help strengthens our community and expands access to justice. Be the reason someone’s life changes for the better—volunteer through Pro Bono CO. I welcome anyone interested in this project to reach out to me with questions and feedback at blandis@coloradoaccesstojustice.org.

thanks to our clinic volunteers
Did you know the BCBA sponsors a Free Virtual Legal Clinic for Boulder County? This started during the pandemic and was so successful we have continued it to help further our commitment to access to justice. To date, we have helped over 1700 community members! We have a small group of incredibly dedicated volunteers who give 15-20 minutes of their time approximately once every few weeks. We would like to get that number to once a month, but we need more volunteers! Can you help with 20 minutes once a month in service to your community? Please let us know that you are available to help once per month (or more!) along with your practice areas. We could not provide this service without all of our amazing volunteer attorneys! Please contact Bay for more information about attorney.participating as a volunteer Please click here to sign up

A benefit of BCBA CLE offerings moving to webinars is that we are able to record the programs and make them available to view after the live presentation. We also submit the majority of our recordings for home study CLE credit, which allows our members to view them as needed to fulfill the credits needed for their reporting periods. Please see a list of our current home study offerings below, and if there is a program you're interested that you don't see here, the full list of our video recordings is available for BCBA Members only on our Webinars page. If there is a program that is not currently accredited for home study that you're interested, please contact Bay and we can work to get a recording re-accredited.
