Peter is a dedicated and selfless volunteer at Wood Library whose contributions span an impressive range of services. He is our art exhibit coordinator, working with local artists to showcase their work in our library's gallery. He shares his technical expertise at our weekly Open Tech Help sessions along with teaching several technology classes. He is a longtime book sale volunteer. He is the photographer at our library events. And if this isn't enough, he is a former library trustee and has been the Friends of the Library treasurer for over ten years. MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Wood Library’s Teen Scene is a welcoming space where middle and high school students, as well as homeschooled youth, can read, study, connect, and have fun. Managed by Katie Smith, our teen services librarian, the space offers Young Adult books, Manga, Graphic Novels, book club kits, video games, computers, and comfortable areas for gathering and collaboration. As our teen collections grow, we're looking for ways to make the most of this popular but limited space. Our Manga and Graphic Novel collections need additional shelving, and we want to replace the existing booth with seating and a table that provide more privacy for students working on homework and participating in tutoring. Your ROC The Day donation to Wood Library on December 1 will help us create a more functional, comfortable Teen Scene that meets the changing needs of our young patrons. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help purchase new shelving and replace the booth in the Teen Scene. Your support will help make room for more books, more learning, and more opportunities for teens to connect.
On ROC The Day help us make room for more in the Teen Scene!
Smart Ways to Give Before Year-End A gift to Wood Library helps keep our community curious, connected, and ready to learn. As you plan your year-end giving, consider these strategies that may help you support Wood Library while making the most of available tax benefits. Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) Have a donor-advised fund? You can recommend a grant to Wood Library before December 31 to help sustain our collections, programs, and community services. Gifts of Appreciated Stock or Securities Donating appreciated securities you’ve owned for more than a year may offer tax advantages. You may be able to avoid capital gains tax and qualify for a charitable deduction, subject to applicable limits. Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) If you’re age 70½ or older, you may be able to transfer funds directly from your IRA to Wood Library. A qualified charitable distribution can provide a tax-efficient way to give and may count toward your required minimum distribution. A New Tax Benefit for Cash Gifts For 2026, taxpayers who take the standard deduction may also qualify for a federal tax deduction for cash gifts to eligible charities—up to $1,000 for individuals or $2,000 for married couples filing jointly. Gifts to donor-advised funds do not qualify for this particular deduction. Every gift helps Wood Library remain a trusted community hub— a place to discover something new, find connection, and explore opportunities to learn. Learn more and make a gift today.
