Purpose BOTL exists to accelerate the transition away from single-use plastics by creating durable, reusable drinkware that enable consumers and organisations to make better choices for people and the planet. As a Certified B Corporation, we believe business should create positive value for all stakeholders, not simply generate profit. Every decision we make is evaluated against its impact on our customers, team members, suppliers, communities and the natural environment. Founded by a chemist and mum, BOTL was built on a simple principle: product safety comes first. Every bottle is independently tested and certified to rigorous standards that go beyond legal requirements, because safe hydration should be the expectation, not the exception.

The Gruffalo
A note from our founder When BOTL was founded, we believed something simple. A reusable bottle should do more than carry water. It should reduce waste. It should be safe. It should last. And it should inspire better choices every day. Today, millions of disposable plastic bottles are still used every hour across the world. We know a reusable bottle alone will not solve the climate crisis. But we also know that meaningful change starts with practical actions that people can adopt immediately. This report shares our progress, our challenges and the work still ahead. Because impact is never finished.

1. Environmental Impact
1.1 Better Products Every BOTL product is designed around four principles: Durability Safety Functionality Longevity Our products are independently tested to LFGB, FDA, REACH and BS EN standards and are manufactured without BPA, BPS, BPF, phthalates or lead. Maintenance of spare parts for all bottle components to prolong product life. Lifetime warranty on the stainless steel bottle -see website for details. Bottle components are continually reviewed to increase recycled content while maintaining durability, safety and product performance. The Challenge - No manufactured product is impact-free. Even durable products require energy, materials and transportation. Our goal is therefore not perfection. Our goal is to maximise lifetime benefit while minimising environmental harm. By creating long-lasting, repairable products we encourage a shift from disposable consumption to long-term ownership. 1.2 Fighting Plastic Pollution Every bottle sold funds the removal of 50 single-use plastic bottles from the ocean. This means every purchase creates measurable environmental benefits beyond the product itself. Collection provides income and healthcare benefits and collected plastic is recycled in to pellets for future manufacturing. BOTL makes caps from recycled polypropylene using ocean reclaimed plastic. Each stainless steel, reusable bottle, replaces the need for thousands of single-use plastic bottles. 1.3 Responsible Materials Our products use recycled stainless steel to reduce demand for virgin materials and saving 85% of the energy required to produce virgin steel. We continually evaluate materials, manufacturing methods and packaging to reduce environmental impact while maintaining quality. We monitor waste reduction throughout operations. Areas For Improvement: Reduced packaging weight Improved end-of-life recovery, cradle to cradle Better carbon measurement. 1.4 Carbon Zero Supply Reducing carbon throughout operations and logistics remains the core objective. This is an ongoing ‘work in progress’ that we manage through using recycled steel (85% reduced carbon vs. virgin steel), seafreight (uses less than 1% carbon vs airshipping)
All products undergo independent third-party testing and comply with relevant UK and European regulations including: FDA Certification BS EN 12546-1 food and drink contact product safety REACH Compliance LFGB food safety standards this includes section 11 - the control of BPA, BPS, BPF and phthalates BS EN 12530 where applicable Since Aug 2022, Botl products have been manufactured using lead-free vacuum technology - eliminating the use of lead glass sealing pellets - products used prior to this date still exceed all product safety testing as the lead pellet is not in contact with beverages and is fully contained. Customers benefit from products that are certified, guaranteed: BPA Free BPS Free BPAF & TMBPF Free Phthalate Free Lead Free
2. Customer Impact
2.1 Product Safety
Bisphenol-a, Bisphenol-s, Bisphenol-f and Phthalates are all plasticisers, chemicals used to make plastic more flexible. These chemicals are all endocrine disruptors. The USA National Library of Medicine contains an in depth and balanced study into the dangers of this group of chemicals. Canada was the first North American country to ban BPA in baby bottles in 2008 after mounting evidence of the negative health effects. France followed in 2010. The European Union joined in 2011. Each ban came after the same realisation: that BPA doesn’t just mimic estrogen, it rewrites your body’s chemical messaging system. The documented health impacts include: Breast cancer, Prostate cancer, Endometriosis, Heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, Obesity, Reproductive problems, Brain‑development issues, Neurodiversity. But the real bombshell dropped in 2023. What 800+ studies revealed about misguided “BPA Safety”. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reviewed over 800 scientific studies and reached a startling conclusion: the “safe” level of BPA exposure needed to be slashed by 20,000 times compared to their 2015 guidelines. That’s not a typo. That’s not an adjustment. It’s an admission that we’ve been massively underestimating the danger of BPA exposure. Children face the greatest exposure since they consume more food per pound of body weight than adults. Most concerning, their developing bodies are far more sensitive to endocrine disruption during critical windows of brain development. In some countries, literally every single person tested had concerning levels of BPA. While regulators were slowly banning BPA, the plastic industry was one step ahead, coming up with a chemical replacement. When “BPA-free” plastics hit the market, it seemed like a win. Finally, products that gave us all the convenience of plastic, without the hormone-disrupting risks. Right? Wrong. Most of these “BPA-free” alternatives are part of what scientists now call regrettable substitutions, chemicals that are just as toxic (or worse) and completely unregulated. Instead of finding a safe solution, the plastics industry simply swapped one endocrine disruptor for another, slapped on a new label, and called it progress. BPS (bisphenol S) is now one of the most widely used BPA replacements - still used in baby bottles marked as BPA free! Even high-end “BPA-free” plastics like Tritan™ aren’t immune. There are lots of published articles and research around the presence of estrogenic or androgenic activity in Tritan. Lots of research stating that there is zero presence and others with opposing views. We recommend thorough research. In a head-to-head lab study, four common BPA substitutes were tested for their ability to kill living cells. BPAF (Bisphenol AF) was most toxic. TMBPF (Tetramethyl Bisphenol F), BPA (Bisphenol A), BPS (Bisphenol S) all still toxic, just slightly less so. Every single one triggered cell death within 10 minutes, at real-world exposure levels. Touching a receipt. Heating leftovers in a “BPA-free” container. Drinking from a water bottle left in the sun. These aren’t theoretical risks, they’re daily habits linked to immediate cellular damage.

We donate end of line and discontinued stock to local charities and food banks We donate 1% of turnover to carbon recapture We reclaim 50 single-use plastic bottles from the ocean for every bottle sold through our partnership with Plastic Bank - this provides an income to collectors in areas of high poverty and recycles plastic waste
5.3 Plastic Bank At BOTL, we believe businesses should take responsibility not only for the products they create, but also for the wider environmental challenges facing our planet. That is why we partner with Plastic Bank to help tackle ocean-bound plastic pollution while supporting vulnerable communities around the world. Plastic Bank works in coastal regions where plastic waste is most likely to enter waterways, creating collection systems that transform discarded plastic into a valuable resource. Collection members exchange plastic for income and access to benefits that help improve their quality of life, including healthcare, education and digital financial services. This means every BOTL creates impact in two ways: Environmental Impact By funding the collection of ocean-bound plastic, BOTL helps prevent plastic pollution from entering marine ecosystems, protecting wildlife, waterways and coastal communities. Every bottle purchased contributes towards a cleaner planet and supports the transition towards a circular economy where materials are recovered and reused rather than discarded. Social Impact Plastic Bank's collection programmes create opportunities for individuals and families in vulnerable communities to generate income from collecting plastic waste. By placing value on discarded plastic, the programme helps support livelihoods, improve access to essential services and strengthen local economies.
BOTL recognises its responsibility to respect human rights and ethical labour practices throughout its supply chain. This is monitored and certified via Sedex and BCSI accreditation.
