I love the way the New Year encourages many people to reflect on the past and dream of what’s possible in the future! Technology has certainly made that reflecting aspect even more interesting with detailed “wraps” of the music we loved, the hikes that challenged us, and even how many hours we spent on Duolingo (the owl was not happy with me this year—lo siento). One thing I was NOT expecting to be “wrapped” was my YMCA credit card! And yet. . . lo and behold it happened. And it came with custom awards. That’s right, company spending awards. What kind of spending award does a camp director get? I received . . . drumroll, please . . . “The Worm Whisperer Award!” and I’m not sure how I feel about that, but I’ll take the win. All jokes aside, building our camp garden this past summer brought so much joy, learning, and life to camp. Looking forward to 2026, I have budgeted for some very exciting new additions to Mill Hollow! One rhymes with “line bear” (see if your camper can guess what game this is) and our archery range is getting both modern and ancient upgrades! This is just the beginning so don’t miss out on the fun this summer and register your camper! See you soon, Cali YMCA Mill Hollow Director
JANUARY 2026
HELLO EVERYONE! Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you had a great end to your 2025, and an even better beginning to your 2026. As we oft do in a new year, I have some resolutions for Camp Roger and Mill Hollow that I want to share with you all. Access and Affordability: We’ll continue Tiered Pricing for traditional camp so families can choose the level that fits their budget, and we’ll keep financial assistance front‑and‑center - we want to ensure that families who want to experience camp, experience camp, regardless of financial circumstances. A Smoother Registration Experience: As we have shared and detailed, we’ll finalize the move to our upgraded CRM so families can register quickly and manage forms in one place—reducing friction while keeping safety information complete and accessible. Facilities You’ll Feel: At Camp Roger, we will be debuting our newly redesigned and renovated bathroom and shower house to allow for more capacity and increased camper safety and privacy. At Mill Hollow, we will be debuting two more renovated cabins that will continue to provide safer, more comfortable experiences for campers. Why these resolutions? Because camp changes lives. By investing in people and both digital and physical infrastructure, we ensure every camper can belong, grow, and return to a camp that keeps getting better. Ready to join us? Register at ymcautah.org, and if cost is a barrier, please apply for financial assistance so your child doesn’t miss out. Yours in Camping, Ben Wittig Director of Camping

Hey there Camp Families, I hope you all had an excellent Holiday Season and enjoyed the turning of the wheel into the New Year. This time of year always feels like a bit of a transitory period of life. We’re not quite out of winter, and with a renewed focus on what the future will bring, it’s all but impossible to reflect and look forward. Recently I’ve been thinking about how the things that we’ve been doing in the last ten years at camp have helped not only to shape the person I’ve become over the last decade, but also the campers who have come to camp have become. So often camp feels like a luxury experience and that is honestly not too far from the truth, but the reality is that a week of overnight camp in the summertime is quickly going from a fun option for our youth to an essential experience, that shouldn't be missed. While not too long ago many of the things that a child would experience at camp were commonplace, the experiences offered at overnight camp are getting harder and harder to replicate outside of the unique spaces camps create. There is no place like this place to spend a week in the summer of 2026! Warmly, Jake YMCA Camp Roger Director
