The USTA Missouri Valley Junior Team Tennis Section Championships held at Edmond Center Court proved to be an unforgettable event, embodying the true spirit of tennis with sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication taking center court. The Oklahoma teams, fueled by passion and determination, demonstrated their prowess and sportsmanship on and off the court, ultimately emerging victorious in both age divisions against fierce competition from the 7 Sections across Missouri Valley. The exceptional leadership of Missouri Valley's Tara Williams and their impressive performance at the District JTT Qualifiers secured their well-deserved spots at the championships. Another commendable aspect of the Oklahoma teams' success was their display of exemplary sportsmanship. At the completion of each team match, each coach nominated 1 boy and 1 girl in the 14's and 18's from the opposing team as their sportsmanship selection. On and off the court, three young athletes from Oklahoma demonstrated respect for their opponents, officials, and fellow players. 18U Championship 1st place: Edmond Center Court - Edmond, OK - Coach: Caitlyn Sagraves 2nd place: Britton Christian Church Tennis Academy - Oklahoma City, OK - Coach: Brad Lund 14U Championship 1st place: Tucker Tennis Academy - Tulsa, OK - Coach: Tiffany Milner 2nd place: Edmond Center Court - Edmond, OK - Ian Sioux

TIPS FOR STAYING COOL
Tips for Staying Cool During your Tennis Match this Summer
MATCH PLAY TIPS
HYDRATE THE DAY BEFORE Hot days drain water and sodium from your body. Drink water and electrolytes the day before and refrain from alchohol and caffeine. Don't be afraid to add more salt to your diet a few hours before your match. PACK A COOLER AND PLENTY TO DRINK Matches can last hours. Take advantage of the time between the switch overs. For longer matches, be prepared to have drinks that include electrolytes and snacks that nclude carbohydrates. Include ice packs to place on your neck to cool down between matches and even include cold towels to place around your neck and wrists. FIND SHADE Find shade by wearing a hat or bringing an umbrella for breaks in between games. If you are feeling over heated, don't be afraid to dip your hat in the water cooler you brought. Stay out of the sun when possible. If you are watching a match before you play, make sure you are sitting in the shade. WEAR BREATHABLE GEAR Stay away from heavy cotton clothing on the courts. Try wearing light colored, breathable, and light clothing to keep you cool. QUALITY SHOES Tennis courts trap heat so it is important to wear quality shoes to keep the bottom or your feet cool. BE PHYSICALLY FIT The better shape you are in, the better you will handle the heat! Get acclimated to the heat. Practice several times in hot weather before you go and compete in the heat. POSSIBLY CHANGE YOUR TENNIS STRATEGY If you like to flood the net every point, or have killer ground strokes you might need to modify these quick extreme movements for the heat. Pace yourself in long matches and save your power plays for more important points. KNOW YOUR LIMITS Don't be afraid to take a break. No tennis match is worth harming yourself. Listen to your body, and find ways to take a break.
