FROM THE PRESIDENT
Our Peter Goadby Memorial Tournament, which will take place on the 12th and 13th of April. We hope to see a large number of Sydney boats support the tournament. Hopefully the weather will cooperate, as April is known for bringing both large Blue Marlin and Yellowfin encounters. There are fantastic cash prizes up for grabs, so we encourage everyone to get your entries in and take part in this great event. May is the final round of tournaments, with Port Hacking hosting the last event on the 3rd and 4th of May. We also hope that the election date will be confirmed after that weekend—political uncertainty is the last thing we want to disrupt our fishing plans. On that note, it’s important to consider the potential impact of certain political decisions. A vote for Labour, the Greens, or the Teals will support the Ocean Wind Farms, a proposal that continues to progress despite opposition. These wind farms are being placed in the Port Stephens car park and off Shell Harbour which is in our fishing waters. We encourage you all to vote wisely and consider the long-term implications of your choices. Regarding the wharf, we are moving forward with plans to repair the pylons. This is a significant undertaking, and it will require a substantial amount of club funds. We are currently running a raffle to help raise the necessary funds. The first raffle draw will take place on the Saturday night of the Peter Goadby Memorial Tournament, with a second draw at our Club’s Presentation later this year. We ask for your generous support in these efforts, as the funds raised will directly benefit our club and its future. Inside the magazine there is a full rapt up of the ladies day and Interclub state Championship. I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming events Thanks Glenn Wright

Lyndy Grieves Memorial Ladies Day 2025 - A Celebration of Skill and Spirit The Lyndy Grieves Memorial Ladies Day marks the start of the NSWGFA State Championship Interclub, and Thursday morning at 8 a.m. the call came over the radio:"Start fishing, start fishing, start fishing!" The ladies were off and fishing. Onboard On Call, Lynette Robb led the charge, heading out over the shelf in search of blue marlin. With Shimano 24kg bent butts set out in the gunnels, it didn't take long before the first blue marlin appeared. It took the short corner, and Lynette settled into her fight. By 9:30 a.m.,On Call had tagged its first blue marlin. Not long after, Lynette was hooked into a second fish, also landed on 24kg, before 10:30 a.m. Unfortunately, that was the last hook-up for On Call — though they saw more marlin in the spread, they were unable to capitalize on further opportunities. Meanwhile, the new Sydney boat WAWA headed north with Krissy Marsh and Marina onboard. Both ladies had an exceptional day, each tagging two marlin and a dolphin fish. Krissy battled two stripe marlin — one on 10kg and one on 15kg—while Marina wasn't to be outdone, landing a black marlin on 15kg and a stripe marlin on 10kg. Both ladies enjoyed a fantastic day aboard the WAWA, skippered by Camron, with the crew providing exceptional hosting. A special mention goes to Shantelle Ayad, who made an appearance onboard Smartbill. She took out the award for Most Tagged Sharks, tagging a whaler on 15kg. Congratulations to Shantelle it was great to see Shantelle back onboard Smartbill. The ladies from Tantrum were equally excited by the 8 a.m. start. After a delicious breakfast at the marina, they headed out to the shelf. First to hook up was Makira, who battled a small blue marlin on 10kg. Sadly, the hooks pulled, but they quickly reset and were soon back in action. The 10kg line went off again, and this time, Makira landed a beautiful 15.9kg shortbill spearfish. Next, Lily Sims, visiting from Cairns (Bounty Hunter Charters), took the 8kg rod and made short work of a 10.6kg dolphin fish—setting a new Sydney Game Fishing Club record for Lily. After lunch, Makira was back in action when the 15kg line went off, this time hooking a small blue marlin. The fish put up a great fight, taking Makira through the boat wash, just missing out on the two whirly whirls making things even more interesting. After a thrilling battle, the team sunk the gaff, and Tantrum headed to the weigh station with a blue marlin, shortbill spearfish, and dolphin fish onboard. The ladies were thrilled with their successful day and the adventures they had. Summary of Results: Champion Lady Tag & Release: Pip Walker – 25,031 points Most Marlin: Lynette Robb – 2 Marlin (On Call, on a count-back) Most Sharks: Shantelle Ayad – 1 Shark (Smartbill) Capture Awards: Champion Angler – Capture: Makira Wright (Tantrum) – 8,165.35 points Heaviest Marlin: Makira Wright – 95.4kg Heaviest OGF (Other Game Fish): Makira Wright – 15.9kg (Shortbill Spearfish) Congratulations to all the ladies who participated and made the Lyndy Grieves Memorial Ladies Day 2025 a memorable and exciting event.
The Newcastle Point Stephens Billfish Shootout 2025 Due to unfavorable weather conditions, this year’s Shootout was reduced to a single-day event. However, this allowed crews to enjoy a lively Saturday evening at the town’s pubs and restaurants. A total of 140 boats entered the competition, with The Mighty Casey off to an impressive start on day one, successfully tagging Three Black Marlin on 10kg line. This placed them in Third Position on a countback. The winning boat for the tournament True Grit local Port Stephen boat took home $12,500.The winning boat in capture was Finjitsu weighing 134.7kg Blue Marlin they took home an impressive $50,000 NPSGFC President Troy hosted the presentation dinner, where awards were presented along with additional lucky angler and boat prizes, making for a memorable and enjoyable evening
Day 1: Sydney Team 2, featuring Smartbill, WAWA and Casey, had a strong start to the competition.WAWA particularly stood out, with their star angler Nicco Marsh earning the daily award for most marlin tagged, successfully tagging four marlin. Additionally, WAWA secured the daily award for the most marlin tagged and released by a boat. Day 2: Unfortunately, Sydney Team 2’s momentum slowed, adding only a few more marlin to the overall tally. However, The Mighty Casey made an impact by winning the daily award for most sharks tagged. By the end of Day 2, Sydney Team 2 had accumulated a total of 149,591 points. In the Capture category, Jayden Millauro, aboard Tantrum, landed an impressive Blue Marlin on 15kg line, earning 7,464.96 points and securing second place in the junior division. A big congratulations to all Sydney boats for their efforts throughout the tournament. I would also love to hear feedback from participants regarding the new format for the 2025 Interclub, which excluded the traditional sail pass and shotgun start — both historic elements of the event. In Remembrance: We invite you all to join in a celebration of Paul Barning, the owner of the vessel Dark horse and long-time shark fisherman on the 25th of this month at the Royal Motor Yacht Club at Port Hacking. Our hearts go out to everyone who was aboard Dark Horse, as well as to Paul’s family, friends, and fellow members of the Port Hacking Game Fishing Club.

Here is some inspiration My wife and I were watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed. I turned to her and said, 'Do you want to have Sex?' 'No,' she answered. I then said, 'Is that your final answer?' ... She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying, 'Yes..' So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend." And that's when the fight started... I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. "I'll have the rump steak, rare, please." He said, "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?" "Nah, she can order for herself." And that's when the fight started..... My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school reunion, and she kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby table. I asked her, "Do you know him?" "Yes", she sighed, "He's my old boyfriend. I understand he took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear he hasn't been sober since." "My God!" I said, "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?" And then the fight started... My wife sat down next to me as I was flipping channels. She asked, "What's on TV?" I said, "Dust." And then the fight started...
Love the SAINT
and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application. When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability too.' And then the fight started... ________________________________ My wife was standing nude, looking in the bedroom mirror. She was not happy with what she saw and said to me, "I feel horrible; I look old, fat and ugly. I really need you to pay me a compliment.' I replied, "Your eyesight's damn near perfect." And then the fight started........ ________________________________ I rear-ended a car this morning...the start of a REALLY bad day! The driver got out of the other car, and he was a DWARF!! He looked up at me and said 'I am NOT Happy!' So I said, 'Well, which one ARE you then?' That's how the fight started. ________________________________ One year, I decided to buy my mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift... The next year, I didn't buy her a gift. When she asked me why, I replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!" And that's how the fight started.
When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the shed, the boat, making beer.. Always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway." The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp. Saturday morning I got up early, quietly dressed, made my lunch, and slipped quietly into the garage. I hooked up the boat up to the van and proceeded to back out into a torrential downpour. The wind was blowing 50 mph, so I pulled back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered that the weather would be bad all day. I went back into the house, quietly undressed, and slipped back into bed. I cuddled up to my wife's back; now with a different anticipation, and whispered, "The weather out there is terrible." My loving wife of 5 years replied, "And, can you believe my stupid husband is out fishing in that?" And that's how the fight started... After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's License to verify my age. I looked in my pockets
