As we head into the final quarter of the school year, our goal is to help every child stay below the 10% absence mark. We want every student to have the best chance to succeed! Think of a team sport. Miss too many practices and it's harder to stay in rhythm. Being present helps students build confidence, stay connected and keep up with lessons without the stress of falling behind. Lock in and let's finish strong!
A Note From the Principal
It’s hard to believe that April is already here and we’ve made it through the winter months! Our teachers are working hard to help every student finish the year strong. Please continue encouraging your child to read daily, come to school ready to learn, and work hard. Consistent attendance and positive routines make a big difference as we head into the final months of the school year. Thank you for your continued support of our staff and students. Working together helps make our school a great place to learn and grow. Sincerely, DeAnna Carpenter, Principal

April Showers Bring May Flowers, and a Whole Lot of Allergens too!
It is the time of year where it can be hard to tell if your cough or sneezing is a cold coming on or seasonal allergies settling in with all of the changes that spring can bring. What is a Cold? A cold is an infection that can be caused by more than 200 different types of viruses. It generally affects your: Nose, Throat, Sinuses and Trachea Common Cold symptoms include general aches and pains, thick yellow or green mucus and a fever (mostly in children). Colds are contagious. Colds often can last 7-14 days and may require medication for symptom management. What are Allergies? Allergies occur when your body’s immune system reacts to a foreign substance such as pollen, mold, animal dander or certain foods. For many, coming into contact with these things will have no effect, but for those with allergies, it can cause a reaction.Your body will produce antibodies to fight off the allergen and remove it. As your immune system reacts, it can cause inflammation of your: Sinuses, Skin, Airways, and Digestive System Allergies tend to cause watery, red or swollen eyes, itchy nose, eyes or roof of the mouth, think watery and clear mucus and some facial swelling. Allergies are not contagious. Allergies can come on very rapidly but can be well controlled with medication direction from your health care provider, or by taking a daily allergy medication while the allergen is in the air. Hopefully our spring will be beautiful here in the Midwest and with minimal issues for our students with seasonal allergies. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have concerns about your students symptoms and their ability to be at school. We want to end our school year with strong numbers in all of our classes to get the most out of our learning opportunities. Amy Kahmeyer BSN, RN Stewart Elementary School Nurse
