Even during the holidays, there are plenty of ways to keep those brains growing! Read a cozy book together each night. Practice math facts while baking cookies (measure, count, and mix). Write thank you notes to spread gratitude and practice writing skills. Play brain games like crosswords, word searches, or chess.
A Note From the Principal
Can you believe it's already December? It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming everyone back to school, and now we're counting down the days to winter break! This time of year is full of laughter, learning, and a little extra sparkle around the halls. Read on for what's happening this month at Stewart. Warmly, Deanna Carpenter, Principal

The Salvation Army is hosting community dinners Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 1137 N Santa Fe Avenue in Salina. All are invited for fresh food, fellowship and community. This event is free for all. Youth 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Teach your kiddos to be a good learner. Be part of the Stewart CREW. This month we are focusing on collaboration. As a family we encourage you to work together to produce or create something. Ideas include cooking or baking, building a fort or art project. Families also might play games such as charades where working together helps you all win! If you relate collaboration with being on a sports team where all players must work together to win or a band where all instruments play together to create a song, students can make the connection. Use words such as cooperation, partnership, and shared goal when talking about collaboration.
Please make sure students are dressed for the weather! Often teachers take classes outside for recess for a few minutes even if it is cold weather. Please make sure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately (winter coats, hats, mittens, scarves). It would be very helpful if you would label your children's coats or jackets with their name inside. Students must have boots if their teacher allows them in the snow. Please send tennis shoes to change into for P.E.

Happy Holidays from the Health Room
In the month of December, Salina Family Healthcare will provide dental screenings at the school on December 3 and December 4. You should have received notice of this and you will receive a note home regarding the outcome of the screening. Vision screenings will also be completed the week of December 1 and you will receive a note home regarding the outcome of the screenings. Hearing Screenings will be completed on February 24 and February 25, 2026 and you will receive a document regarding the outcome of the screening the day your student is screened. Please know if you ever have a concern about your child’s dental care, hearing or vision, you can always contact me and we can determine the best plan for your student. These school screenings should never take the place of any routine care provided by your dentist, optometrist or audiologist. Have a wonderful Winter Break!
