Podcasts stimulate mental imagery more intensely than watching or reading, and cause the listener to use their imagination. Stimulating different parts of the brain, podcasts force us to actively listen, especially when we listen to a topic of true interest.
We are thrilled to welcome Mentees from the third cohort into the PrIMES Alumni Network! The promotion of this cycle brings the total to 157 Mentees supported on their journeys into medical school, working toward their dreams of becoming physicians. Congratulations Mentees, we are proud of you! Many thanks to the Mentors who have shared their experience and guidance in the program. Keep PrIMES in mind as a resource to refer future Mentees & Mentors, and together we will continue our mission to increase diversity in medical school education!
Applications for PrIMES Cohort 4 have closed and we had a tremendous response! Our Leadership Team members are currently reviewing the applications in the second round of the process.

PrIMES Cohort 4
Planning Ahead
Autumn 2022

Is it active or passive learning? What is the consistency and accessibility of the sessions? How much credit can you get? How restrictive is the process? What is the content presented? How closely does it reflect actual in-person shadowing? Is it aligned with your fields of interest?
What to look for in a high quality, virtual shadowing or clinical observation experience:
Increases in technological capacity have met the heightened demand for socially distanced healthcare and opened a variety of virtual clinical observation & shadowing opportunities for providers, patients, and students.
Seek out immersive experiences that involve you actively in learning clinical skills from recorded patient interactions. The more active role you play in the observations the more you will build diagnostic skills through insights into real cases. These videos will give you a firsthand view of duties and demands of the job. To see the performance and get a full picture of a doctor’s job, seek out virtual shadowing experiences that involve the doctors walking premeds through cases themselves. This interaction will help you build the skills and get to ask questions through discussion with the physicians.
Virtual Observations
Virtual shadowing experiences can run the gamut in terms of their quality - ranging from pre-recorded videos with no interaction to interactive live observations with physicians and patients in real-time.
