Principal's Message
As we head into the second month of the school year, I want to thank our students, staff, parents/guardians, and community volunteers for your efforts in helping lead a positive start to the school year! We had a nice turn out for Open House and look forward to seeing many of you during Parent-Teacher Interviews later in October. As a school community, we remain committed to fostering a culture of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity while aiming to build an empowered and growth-minded learning community. It has been great to see the field trip planning and the Fall extracurricular programs running full force leading to meaningful learning and positive experiences for our students. We encourage parents/guardians to remain involved in your child’s education as your involvement and partnership with the school makes a huge difference in how our students do at school. Here’s to a great October.

Academic Support Available every Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:15-4:15pm. Come to the Learning Commons Library to get homework help with Mr. Wetmore
Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.
**Gr8 Day Outside: A Memorable First Adventure as Selkirk Students** On September 24th& 25th, our Grade 8 students embarked on the much-anticipated Gr8 Day Outside, a hands-on field trip designed to enhance their PHE curriculum through team-building and problem-solving activities. Students and staff alike set off hiking from Forest Crown making stops to reflect on the start of the school year before descending into Camp Stone where they faced four unique challenges, with each related to a quadrant of the Circle of Courage: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. Throughout the day, students used open communication skills, trust, and respect, reinforcing the values essential for developing and maintaining healthy relationships. From supporting one another in physical challenges, to attempting various solutions to problems, they showcased teamwork and resilience. Kudos to our students for their enthusiasm and commitment, making Gr8 Day Outside a skookum learning experience!

Independence
The Selkirk Secondary School Outdoor Education, Leadership and Careers class takes a plunge and learns how to recover with a bit of team work and some know how. The canoe over canoe rescue was one of the favorite new skills students learn in the Flat Water Canoe Course.
Our fall sports are in full swing with our teams making an impact at every tournament. Our Bantam boys and girls went undefeated in the Jaffray tournament last weekend adding more trophies to our display case. Our junior teams are a force to be reckoned with. Last weekend our Junior grade 10 girls took first place in the Golden tournament. Junior boys had a strong tournament, shocking teams with their monster spikes and digs. Our Senior boys and girls are off to a strong start with top placements in each of their tournaments this year. It’s an exciting time for our Rugby 7’s, they are played in a jamboree in Invermere on September 25. Everyone on the team is super excited, Zak Campbell has done an amazing job coaching the squad. It’s been an excellent turn out for our swim team, they are practicing hard and will be ready to compete for gold in zones. Lastly, the cross-country running team is fueled up and ready to go. They will have their first taste of competition October 3rd in Cranbrook. Thank you to all the coaches for taking the time and putting in the effort, your dedication is greatly appreciated.

Rocky Mountain International Student Program
RMISP would like to thank the Leadership students who attended our first annual Welcome Lunch on September 17. It was a great opportunity for our international students to meet and get to know Canadian students over pizza and games. We are happy to see our students settling in at school and in the community.
