SECONDARY SCHOOL
Selkirk continues to thrive as a vibrant and engaged learning community! Over the past two months, our school has been bustling with fall sports, clubs, field trips, a Pep Rally, and a variety of events organized by our Leadership class and Student Focus Group. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff and community volunteers for creating such rich learning experiences for our students. We also deeply appreciate the ongoing support from parents and guardians—your partnership plays a vital role in helping students maintain strong work habits and consistent attendance. Looking ahead, November promises to be another exciting month. Highlights include our Remembrance Day assembly and the much-anticipated Funderstorm—a spirited pep rally and indoor grade-wide games competition. Mid-term report cards will also be sent home later in the month. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at the school. We’re looking forward to a fantastic November! ~Clint Dolgopol
Every student and staff member at Selkirk will benefit from being part of an open-minded and innovative learning community built upon the pillars of belonging, generosity, mastery and independence.

Belonging
We are proud to present this photo of the new AbEd Journal Crew. This crew works hard during Storm time to put together Indigenous articles on various topics.
Geneskool visited Selkirk in early November to do workshops with the Science 8, Science 9, Science 10 and Anatomy and Physiology 12 classes. Students had a chance to solve a crime in a mini CSI, make alien babies and transcribe DNA to get out of an escape room. It was fun and we learned a lot about genetics.
Leadership (gr 10-12) students giving the cheque for money we raised selling orange shirts for Orange Shirt Day; proceeds going to Nicole at Spark Society. Students sanding and staining benches from wood donated by Tyee and put together by Cory Scott. We also spoke to grades 6's and 7's about the Youth Centre and promoting its events, activities and how we’re collaborating with them.
At Selkirk, we follow a progressive discipline policy and use the following themes in conveying our expectations to students.

Students from Selkirk's and Kimberley Alternate's Student Focus Groups attended a district session in Invermere hosted by Steve Wyer. They shared what’s going well in their schools, exchanged ideas to improve school culture, and returned with renewed enthusiasm. Selkirk’s group highlighted our progress with house teams, clubs, intramurals, and academic supports.

We had the college fair on October 17th. Students had the opportunity to meet with University and College recruiters from 11 schools in BC.
It’s been an exciting and successful season so far for our Selkirk athletics teams! Our Sr. Boys Soccer team has had a fantastic turnout and has competed well in all their tournaments this season. The team will be competing at Zones in Castlegar on November 4th, best of luck as they continue their strong season. The rugby team had another great season this year, competing hard against some very tough competition. Win or lose, they always gave their best effort and represented Selkirk with pride. Well done on an excellent year. The cross-country team has shown incredible dedication and effort all season, giving their best effort from start to finish. The way the team motivated and supported each other was inspiring to see. Our Swim team has demonstrated excellent development and growth, and we’re so proud of all their hard work and commitment in the pool. The team had a strong performance in their Zones last weekend in Creston. Our volleyball teams continue to compete strongly through tournaments, earning plenty of hardware along the way- our trophy case is definitely looking fuller this fall! As we head into November, we’re looking forward to seeing all our teams finish their seasons strong at Zones and beyond!
Storm Report
Career Life Connection 12 (CLC 12) – We are excited to announce that the Capstone Presentations for Career-Life Connections (CLC) class will take place on March 10. This presentation is a significant part of the CLC course, where students showcase their personal learning journey, achievements, and future goals. Throughout the CLC course, students have developed key skills in self-awareness, planning, and goal-setting, preparing them for their post-secondary paths. The Capstone project allows them to reflect on their growth and present their plans for the future. We look forward to seeing the hard work and creativity of our students in their presentations!
Grad Zone
Selkirk Secondary is now partnering with Healthy Kimberley for our fall fundraiser! The fundraiser launcher Thursday, October 16th and closes on Friday, November 14. Grads will be selling locally made dry mix products, including: Pancake Mix Muffin Mix Ginger Snap Mix Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix Trio Dip Pack (Ranch, Taco, Dill) Each item will be $20, and all products will be delivered before the winter break (great gift ideas!). This partnership will also give grads the opportunity to be involved in some aspects of production. By supporting a local charity at the same time, this is a win-win for our community.
GRAD COUNCIL Grad Council is a group of grads who get together regularly to plan graduation, prom and ceremonies. There will be criteria for this process, anyone who has questions can see Ms. Iacobucci to discuss further. The link will be sent to everyone’s SD6 email address.
Grad dates for 2026 are: June 12, 2026 – Prom June 13, 2026 - Ceremonies Grad PHOTO WEEK – Scheduled for the first week back from Winter Break: January 5-9, 2026. Two major fundraisers – first fundraiser is underway! We ask ALL Grads to participate in these fundraisers to support their graduation events. Rocky Mountain International Student Program
RMISP students enjoyed an exciting overnight trip to Calgary at the beginning of October! The adventure-packed excursion included downhill karting at Canada Olympic Park and visits to beautiful Lake Louise and Banff townsite. It was a great opportunity for students to bond, explore Alberta's natural beauty, and create unforgettable memories. Back home, RMISP celebrated the fall season with an after-school pumpkin carving activity. Students showed off their creativity with some impressive designs and had lots of fun getting into the Halloween mood. Looking ahead, we are preparing for the arrival of three new international students from Australia at the beginning of November. Be sure to give them a warm welcome and say hello when you see them around! RMISP is always looking for caring and friendly host families. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the program, please text or call our Kimberley Homestay Coordinator, Barbara del Pino, at 250-427-6168 for more information.
