SELKIRK
Principal's Message
“Every student at Selkirk will benefit from being part of an open-minded and innovative learning community built upon the pillars of respect, growth and equity."
It’s hard to believe we are heading into the final month of the school year! May was another busy month with cultural assemblies and field trips, including a busy schedule for our Spring sports teams. As we enter the final month of the school year, I want to thank staff, students, coaches, volunteers, and parents/guardians for your support and efforts throughout the year. I remain proud to be part of such a strong and vibrant learning community that embraces our core values and school mission of cultivating a culture of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. As we head into June, I encourage students to stay focused on a strong finish to the year, to self-reflect on their year, and to begin to think of goals for next year. I wish you all a great June and hope to see you at our year-end events. Here’s to a successful finish to the year! ~Clint Dolgopol

Last day of classes
On May 15th or 16th, all grade 9 students participated in a Sexual Health Day to meet curricular content of Healthy Sexual Decision Making. Along with Selkirk staff, we had facilitators from community agencies who work closely with adolescent sexual health. Throughout the day, students learned about a variety of issues: accessing sexual health care, the anatomy of reproduction, safe sex/contraceptives/STI’s, what comprises a healthy relationship, what is sexual consent
Interested in learning more about the Youth Train in Trades programs offered through College of the Rockies? Selkirk will be offering an information session on Thursday, June 20th at 6pm in the Library Learning Commons
Growth
The Moose Hide Campaign began as a BC-born Indigenous-led grassroots movement to engage men and boys in ending violence towards women and children. It has since grown into a nationwide movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians from local communities, First Nations, governments, schools, colleges/universities, police forces and many other organizations – all committed to taking action to end this violence. Innovation
Please enjoy the spring issue of 'The Journal' which focuses on sustainability. Ren, Ash, Seth, Storm and Ruby worked hard to create another high quality publication. Click on 'The Journal' to see the whole publication
A huge thank you to Larry Gould at Mardis Wood Products for the lift of lumber he just donated to us. It’s absolutely incredible the amount of wood he donates to the school each year. It makes our woodwork program thrive.
On Wednesday May 22, Amy Perry’s grade 8 Humanities class visited the Stevens’ ranch near Invermere. The students learned how to put up a teepee and play stick games, while immersed in stories and teachings from the Stevens family and friends.
Grade 9 Science students demonstrating the carbon emissions produced by Tofu vs. Beef in a comparison activity.

STORM REPORT
The Selkirk Senior Girls Soccer team (composed of players representing grades 8-12) had an exciting tournament season. The team competed in three tournaments including Mt. Baker, Creston, and Golden. Our season concluded with a very well played match vs. Invermere at Zones where Selkirk was defeated 4-3. Special thanks to Nola Clarke and Avery Drouin for leading the team and helping the younger and less experienced players enjoy their soccer season!
The mountain bike time had some stellar group rides this year. The team wrapped up the season with a great day of shuttling at Toby Creek Adventures.
On May 21st Selkirk hosted the Kootenay Zones Golf Tournament at Purcell Golf Course. Eight teams from across the region came to compete . Congratulations to the Selkirk team for an excellent second place finish, a great season!
Congratulations to our rugby teams on a great season and to the senior team on their participation in the Stadium Series in Kelowna.
Congratulations to Sophia Bradley on Class Valedictorian and Morgan Gervais on Class Historian!

Rocky Mountain International Student Program
The Rocky Mountain International Student Program would like to welcome Barbara del Pino to the international education team! A native of Austria and a world traveler, Barbara is fluent in German, English, and Spanish. During a road trip through the Kootenay region in 2022, she and her husband Erik fell in love with Kimberley and decided to make their home here: “We feel privileged to call this charming region our home and we have been enjoying its lovely people and outdoor wonders ever since.” Barbara joins the RMISP team as Homestay Coordinator and is looking forward to working with our host families to make our international students’ time here truly memorable. If you are interested in hosting an international student, please contact Barbara at barbara.delpino@sd6.bc.ca or (250) 427-6168. As we wrap up another school year, we would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Selkirk students, teachers, and staff who have embraced our students with support, encouragement, and kindness throughout the past year. You have made a profound impact in our students’ experience here in Canada.
