Meet Hannah Kenerly: the teen model you'll want to know
Action Magazine 2024
It all started with Take Action Apparel & Gear. With first-hand knowledge that bullying has become a serious epidemic in schools across the nation, Gabriel L. Silva wanted to help give kids like him a voice! "I was a victim of repeated bullying. I am small for my age and kids would make fun of me for my size. Eventually, the verbal turned physical. I know that not everyone is going to like me, and I am actually okay with that. But disliking and mistreating someone physically, verbally, or emotionally for basically being different and not taking the opportunity to get to know them for who they are, is not okay. I had an opportunity to travel to LA for pilot season, when I came home, I found out that three of my friends had had an even harder time than I did at school. I knew what they were feeling, but I was helpless to help them. I wanted to do something. So, we got together with a group of experts and some really cool designers to create Take Action Apparel & Gear." Fast forward through time, and as a result of Take Action Apparel & Gear, Action Magazine was born, giving a worldwide platform for both adults and kids in the industry, who are passionate about taking a stance against bullying, a place to share their stories. Effects on children that either are the bully or that are being bullied go well beyond the school day and sometimes last a lifetime. Students who are bullied sometimes resort to suicide and the bullies often find themselves incarcerated by the time that they are adults. "Action Magazine is a great way to showcase amazing talent within the industry, while at the same time, giving them an opportunity to let kids know that they are not alone and help them to feel empowered. I found my voice through acting/modeling and practicing Tae Kwon Do, I stopped focusing on the negative and was able to discover the positive in me. If we help just one by sharing our stories, then Action Magazine is doing what we have created it to do."

What are five things that you can't live without? Family, friendship, love, inclusion, my phone What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? Don’t be afraid to dream big for yourself and I can do hard things! What's your favorite color? I’m color blind so I like really bright colors best. My favorite is yellow. What is your favorite movie? Um…Champions, of course. What is your favorite TV show? Big Time Rush Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? I have a cat. Her name is Spicy Mayo and we rescued her from Alabama. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? My favorite place I’ve traveled to is Aspen Colorado. It’s beautiful and green and the people are so nice. It also has a cool little waterpark I got to enjoy! What is your favorite food? It’s hard to choose just one. I like pizza from a place in Hollywood, sushi from anywhere and burgers from a place called, FOR the WIN. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? If I could have dinner with anyone, I would have dinner with the guys from Big Time Rush would be amazing. I love music and have been taking drum and piano lessons for a long time. I love to write lyrics to songs that are about inclusion. It would be so much fun to get to share some of my stuff with the guys. What made you want to start acting? I started acting because I was put into an acting class when I was younger. I love the feeling of being on stage and having an audience. What is the most difficult thing about being an actor? Some people say it’s the rejection, but I think that part wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t have to put so much work into each audition. How do you prepare for auditions? To get ready for an audition, I read whatever script they share with me. Sometimes it’s a very small part of the script and sometimes it’s a little more. I read it to understand the story and the character. I then try to think of myself as that character. I keep reading until I’ve got memorized and I feel like the character. The industry is full of rejection. What is your advice on how to handle it? I say, don’t worry about getting rejected. I don’t think it’s personal. I think sometimes they just aren’t looking for my look, style or the way I deliver the lines. It doesn’t make me a bad actor. You have had many wonderful roles. What has been the one role that you relate to the most? I am working on a show called Found and I really connect to the character. He loves his partner so much and I’m able to BE that character because I love my girlfriend so much. If you could write the perfect role for yourself, what would it be and why? The perfect role would have me be a musician in the role. This would let me do both of the things I love, acting and music. In addition to acting, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? I am an ambassador for Best Buddies International and Hearts of Joy International. Both organizations are doing so much good for people with IDD. (intellectual developmental disabilities). I am a public speaker and talk about the importance of inclusion and helping those who need support. I love that I can share my voice and my platform to educate others. Last year I spent time at Skidrow, helping to feed the unhoused during Thanksgiving. It’s a really good feeling to be able to give back. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? My favorite actress is Miranda Cosgrove. I’ve always just always liked her and her ability to be silly on camera. How would you describe your fashion style? I don’t really have a fashion style. Sometimes I dress really funky but other times I dress sportier. I guess I have an eclectic sense of style. Who are some of your favorite actors that you have worked with? I loved working with Woody Harrelson. He is kind and funny and I learned so much about acting just by watching him on set. I also loved working with so many talented actors who have disabilities, like me because it shows people that we are capable, no matter what our differences are. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into acting? My advice for people who want to work in film and television is: Give it your all when you’re preparing for an audition. This way, if you aren’t chosen, you know you did your best. Also, it should be something you really enjoy because it’s a lot of hard work. It looks really glamorous, but actors also work really long hours and it’s a lot of pressure to perform day after day. Who would be your dream on screen collaboration and why? I’d love to work with anyone who is on Nickelodeon. It would be such a dream to be on any of those shows because I want to be on a show that makes people laugh, the way those shows make me laugh. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? The thing not many people know about me is that even though my characters tend to be kind of silly on screen, I’m really kind of quiet. I wouldn’t say I’m shy but I’m also not the person who takes over the room. Have you ever been bullied? In junior high there were some kids that used to make fun of me. They thought I didn’t understand but I did. When I went to high school, even though some of those kids also went to my new high school, I found a new group of friends that were in the school’s marching band. Those kids were kind and helped me have an amazing High school experience. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? If you’re being bullied, tell someone! Also, try to find new groups to hang out with. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell him? If I could talk to my future self, I would tell him to start taking drumming lessons early in life because it will become an amazing outlet later in life.

What are five things that you can't live without? My family, phone, headphones, Juki sewing machine, and video games What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? Think to the positive side of life! This philosophy has been a guiding force throughout my career and personal endeavors. It encourages me to focus on the positives, no matter the situation, which helps me stay motivated and overcome challenges in both my acting and fashion design ventures. This positive outlook has been essential in navigating the ups and downs and pushing forward with creativity and resilience. What's your favorite color? Blue and Green What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is Avengers: Endgame. It's not just the epic conclusion to a saga that I love; it's also intertwined with a memorable moment in my career. Right before the movie was released, I had the pleasure of having Lexi Rabe, who played Morgan Stark in the film, participate in my first fashion show. This added a special layer of excitement and connection to the film for me. What is your favorite TV show? X-Men 97 Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? Three rescue cats Kodi, Amelia and Princess. My production company KAP Productions is the first letter of each of their names. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? My favorite place I've traveled to has to be Disney World. What really stands out for me there, aside from the magical experience, is how accommodating their restaurants are for people with dietary restrictions. Being allergic to dairy, it's often a challenge to find places that cater to my needs without a fuss, but Disney World makes it incredibly easy and enjoyable. Their allergy-friendly menus mean I can indulge and enjoy the food worry-free, which really enhances the whole experience. What is your favorite food? Steak, I could it eat it every day! If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? If I could have dinner with anyone in the world, it would be with Tim Burton. His unique vision and creative genius have always inspired my work in film and fashion. I'd love to delve into his process for developing such distinctive and iconic styles, both in storytelling and visual presentation. Discussing his approach to blending the eerie with the enchanting could spark new creative ideas for my own projects, making it a truly invaluable experience. You are an actor, director, writer, philanthropist, etc. Recently, you added fashion designer to your resume. What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion design? My journey into fashion design was a natural extension of my creative expression, deeply influenced by my experiences in the entertainment industry and my love for storytelling. Growing up in the spotlight, I've always been fascinated by the transformative power of costumes and style on set and at red carpet events. This sparked my interest in how clothing can express personality and tell a story. Who are your biggest influences in the fashion world? In the fashion world, my biggest influences are Ralph Lauren and Isaac Mizrahi. Ralph Lauren's ability to transform the Americana aesthetic into something timeless and universally appealing has always inspired me. His designs are not just clothes; they tell stories of sophistication, adventure, and an aspirational lifestyle that I strive to embody in my own line. Isaac Mizrahi has also been a pivotal influence, particularly in how he merges bold colors and dynamic patterns with classic styles to create vibrant, accessible fashion. His approach to design and his flair for theatricality in fashion shows have shown me the power of blending high fashion with approachable, fun elements that can really resonate with a broad audience. Both designers have shaped my understanding of how fashion can be both an art form and a part of everyday life, and they continue to inspire my work as I develop my own unique voice in the fashion industry. What materials do you find yourself drawn to most, and why? In my designs, I am particularly drawn to fabrics that align with the unique aesthetic of each collection while offering versatility and comfort. Fabrics like linen, lightweight wools, and innovative blends that incorporate recycled fibers are frequently used in my work. How do you balance artistic vision with commercial viability? Balancing artistic vision with commercial viability involves a thoughtful approach where creativity meets market demands. I focus on creating unique, high-quality designs that reflect my personal aesthetic and passion for fashion, while also considering what will resonate with my audience. It's about finding that sweet spot where my artistic expressions can be both commercially successful and true to my creative ideals. Tell us more about your line. How did you come up with such an interesting name for your brand? The actual decision to launch my own fashion line, Trident by Jax Malcolm, came from a desire to merge my creative visions with wearable art. The name "Trident" reflects my love for the ocean and surfing, I’m from southern California and spend my summers on the beach. I've always felt connected to the water, both personally and artistically. Starting my own line was a way to bring the stories and themes I love into fashion, creating pieces that are not just clothing but a form of personal expression and escapism. What trends do you think will shape the future of fashion? To balance artistic vision with commercial success, I create unique, custom designs that meet the specific tastes of my clients while keeping my collections exclusive with limited edition pieces. I design versatile clothing that fits well in both grand events and more intimate settings, making them more appealing without sacrificing creativity. In addition to all that you do, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? In addition to my work in entertainment and fashion, I am deeply committed to philanthropy, especially in areas of environmental conservation and children's health. As a Celebrity Ambassador for organizations like Heal the Bay and the Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), I actively support efforts to protect coastal waters and improve healthcare for children. I also work with St. Baldrick’s Foundation and the Starlight Children's Foundation to combat childhood cancer and enhance the lives of hospitalized children. Hosting fundraising events and leveraging my public platform allows me to significantly impact these causes, inspiring others to join in supporting vital community initiatives. How would you describe your own fashion style? Relaxed with a bit of an edge. Who are some of your favorite designers that you have worked with? One of my favorite designers I’ve had the pleasure to work with is Nancy Vuu. I’ve walked for her several times at Los Angeles Fashion Week, where her exquisite designs and unique artistic vision always make a lasting impression. Nancy also designed a custom suit for my Bar Mitzvah, which was not only a perfect fit in terms of style but also made that special day even more memorable. Her attention to detail and commitment to crafting beautiful, timeless pieces truly sets her apart in the fashion industry. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into fashion design? For young aspiring fashion designers, my key advice is to immerse yourself in the world of fashion; study the work of established designers, keep up with trends, and learn the history behind fashion styles. Practice is crucial—start sketching, sewing, and experimenting with various materials to refine your skills. Don't shy away from showcasing your unique style and voice through your designs, as fashion thrives on individuality. Embrace feedback and use it to enhance your work. Additionally, leverage digital platforms like Instagram and Pinterest to display your creations and connect with the global fashion community. This digital presence can be instrumental in building your network and opening up opportunities. Who would be your dream fashion collaboration and why? My dream fashion collaboration would be with Adidas. The brand's iconic status in both sportswear and lifestyle fashion aligns perfectly with my vision of blending high-performance, functionality, and style. Adidas is renowned for its innovative approach to design and commitment to sustainability, which resonates with my own values in fashion. Collaborating with Adidas would provide a fantastic platform to merge their cutting-edge technology and global reach with my unique aesthetic, potentially creating a line that appeals to fashion-forward, environmentally conscious consumers who do not want to compromise on style or comfort. This partnership could truly showcase how fashion can be both dynamic and responsible, pushing boundaries in exciting new ways. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? One thing that not many people know about me is that my favorite animal is the Beluga whale. I've always been captivated by these majestic creatures with their distinctive bulbous foreheads and expressive faces. Their sociable nature and complex communication methods resonate deeply with me, reflecting the collaborative spirit I strive to embody in both my personal and professional life. This admiration for Beluga whales also influences my designs, inspiring me to integrate elements of fluidity and grace into my fashion collections. Have you ever been bullied? I have been lucky not to have bullying in my life experience. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? My advice to kids suffering from bullying is first to remember that you are not alone and it's not your fault. Bullying is about the bully's issues, not yours. It’s important to speak up about it; talk to someone you trust a teacher, parent, counselor, or friend. Keeping it to yourself only gives more power to the bully and more stress to you. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell him? If I could talk to my future self, I'd remind him to stay true to the core values that have guided his decisions and shaped his path—creativity, integrity, and compassion. I'd encourage him to continue embracing new challenges with the same enthusiasm and openness that have brought him this far.

What are five things that you can't live without? My family, my phone,Wi-Fi connection, food, and water What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? Don’t stop, just keep going. What's your favorite color? Black, so versatile. What is your favorite movie? Brothers with Peter Dinklage, and Josh Brolin. What is your favorite TV show? Three’s Company Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? I have a white and chocolate Havanese dog named Celine. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? My favorite place that I’ve ever traveled to was Iceland. What is your favorite food? My favorite food that I can eat every single day is a baguette with butter. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? I would just want to have dinner with my family. What made you want to start acting? I had a really good friend of mine tell me that I should go back into acting after I had stopped acting in college, so I decided to pursue it. What is the most difficult thing about being an actor? It’s hard not to feel rejected when even though I know that casting is doing their job and trying to find the best person to fit the project. It’s really hard going through large amounts of rejection at a time. Additionally, you are also a comedian. Tell us how you got started and where do you find inspiration for your comedy? I personally did not mean to be a comedian. I think I just love sharing the things that I find funny to other people and reenacting them and that’s just something that I kind of fell into nothing that I sought out to do intentionally. You are known as the“professional laugher”. Tell us more about this! Because a lot of my social media content has to do with me, laughing at people‘s comments on the Internet because some of the videos that I have monetize I do get paid for some of the views and therefore I call myself a professional laugher. As an actress, what is the one character that you have been able to relate to the most and why? There aren’t very many characters out there, but I have come across a few characters who are moms that have been through postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety. That is something that I personally have been through, and I am still dealing with after my second pregnancy it is not something that the general public is aware of in depth, and it is very difficult to relate to something that is not something that you can comprehend. Because I have personal experience, it makes it a lot easier for me to relate to characters that have been going through those experiences. If you could write the perfect role for yourself, what would it be and why? I think the perfect role is someone who is relatable on any human level and that people of all different walks of life will be able to relate to. Whether it’s through hardship or through love or through heartache being able to tell a person story through those emotions would just be perfect in end of itself. In addition to acting/comedy, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? I’m very passionate about my family life at home. I want to be as present as possible in my kids' lives while they are young so that I can give them a wonderful childhood. Another thing that I really love doing is I love to cook,I love to travel, and I love to garden. I have a nice garden in my backyard that I love to tend to on my free time and just get lost in. A lot of the volunteering that I do has to do with my daughter and her school. A lot of my time and effort goes into ensuring that my daughter‘s school life is just as vibrant and colorful as her after school life and her whole life and that she has a really great time and experience being at her school, so I put a lot of love into that, and it brings me a lot of joy. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? There are so many to choose from and I like different actors for different reasons. I really like Nicole Kidman because she has excellent range in all the different characters that she embodies. I really liked Robin Williams for his comedy and his improv skills. There was such an amazing life that he brought from each of his characters whether it would be comedic or dramatic. I love Viola Davis because you could see a lot of the work that she puts into each and every character that she plays there’s so many different pieces of nuance that goes into her character and that’s why it’s so mesmerizing to watch her performance because the characters are so rich because she’s put in a lot of work into them. How would you describe your fashion style? My style is very much comfort first before style. I think because I’m a mom now I start thinking about how comfortable I need to be on a day-to-day basis because I’m always running and jumping up and down and chasing after kids and cleaning and bending and picking things up 1 million times a day. After comfort it would definitely be utility I think about the utility of a garment and why I would need it and why it’s important. I think about if these pockets are big enough to fit pacifiers or monster trucks is the fabric durable enough to withstand glue and glitter, etc. and then lastly would come style. I definitely want to look presentable as much as possible. Who are some of your favorite actors/comedians that you have worked with? Well, I didn’t necessarily work with him, but I did work on his show, and I have to give kudos to Jimmy Kimmel who was the first person who ever gave me my first booking so he would have to be my favorite. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into the entertainment industry? Ask your parents lol. If you’re a kid that wants to go into the entertainment industry it’s very important that your parents understand the work that goes into taking you to auditions making sure that you get your sides and your scripts and that you arrive on time and the driving and commuting is a huge responsibility. And if going into the entertainment industry isn’t something that’s feasible for your family right now then stay local do plays in your community constantly practice and read and find friends that love to act and perform too and make skits and post them online. Do what you can with what you have. Who would be your dream collaboration and why? My dream collaboration would have to be with Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph. I love those two women with my whole heart, and if there ever comes a time where I am able to work with them on a project, I think I would probably be a nervous wreck, but it would be a dream come true What is one thing that nobody knows about you? I played Mary Poppins in my fourth-grade play. Have you ever been bullied? Yes. But I am also a pretty aloof individual. So typically, when people do bully me, I take it with a grain of salt and just move onto the next thought and not think about too much. I tried to brush things off as much as possible. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? Talk to someone immediately about it whether it be a parent or a teacher or a counselor. If it’s something that needs to be addressed right away, address it and don’t take no for an answer. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell her? I’d tell her you’re welcome! Because I hope she’s enjoying her life right now while I’m busting my ass putting in all this work so she can enjoy all the benefit of my hard work!

What are five things that you can't live without? My Brumate filled with LMNT electrolyte water– I never leave the house without it. My phone– I know, it's a bad habit, but I can’t live without it . Spearmint gum– Gotta have good breath! A good skincare routine– Essential for feeling my best. Cozy sweatpants– Because comfort is key . What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? My life motto is: Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. I believe Babe Ruth said this initially, but I first heard it from Hilary Duff in the movie A Cinderella Story, and it has resonated with me ever since. Hilary has always been a role model for me, especially since we share the same birthday—and yes, I thought I was THAT GIRL in middle school because of it! This quote has inspired me from a young age to pursue my dreams without letting fear hold me back. What's your favorite color? Anything neutral. I'll always have a soft spot for black and heather gray, BUT lately I've been loving maroon. It’s a great fall color this year! What is your favorite movie? This is a tough choice! I’m a sucker for a good Rom-Com, so I’d have to go with the classic, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. However, I could never resist a showing of Mean Girls either! What is your favorite TV show? Easy—Gilmore Girls! Hands down. My mom and I have a relationship similar to Lorelai and Rory, and it’s always been our favorite show to watch together. It’s comforting and makes me feel at home, no matter where I am when I watch it. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? Absolutely! I have a precious Goldendoodle named Presley, and she’s truly the love of my life! What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? My favorite place I've traveled to is Amsterdam. It was the best trip ever! I went to Europe with my aunt and uncle after graduating from Michigan State University, and it was the trip of a lifetime. I can’t wait to go back! Next on my bucket list are Italy and Greece. What is your favorite food? ICE CREAM! Specifically, a vanilla and chocolate twist with sprinkles. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? This is another tough question! I would want a big table for dinner with Taylor Swift (because, duh, she’s Mother), Kassi Ashton, Liz Rose, Shane McAnally, Lauryn Bostick, Tedeschi Trucks, Adele, and Carrie Underwood. All of them have been significant influences in my life, both in music, wellness, and business. That would be an incredible dinner! I need to manifest this ASAP! What made you want to start singing? I grew up watching my Gran Gran, who was a talented singer in her own right and opened for country legends like George Jones and Gene Watson. Her passion for music and incredible talent inspired me from a young age. I was captivated by her performances; she had unbelievable stage presence and knew how to connect with the crowd. I’ve dreamed of being on stage myself for as long as I can remember. Singing has became my way of expressing emotions and sharing my own stories, just like she did. What is the most difficult thing about being a musician? I believe the unknown and unpredictability are the toughest challenges. As musicians, we pursue this path because it’s something we genuinely love, but there are no guarantees. Life can be uncertain, and this isn’t a traditional career where you earn a degree and secure a stable job with a steady income. That unpredictability can be extremely daunting. Additionally, social media can be a challenging aspect of this job. There are days when I just want to throw my phone out the window and disconnect entirely, but then I connect with a fan from across the country who loves my music. Those moments remind me of the importance of social media in building relationships and sharing my art, making it all worth it. Where do you find inspiration for your music? I find inspiration everywhere! Things that happen in my life are an obvious source. I also draw from listening to other artists, as well as from movies and books, appreciating their personal and honest lyrics and how they express themselves. It’s so cool to me how inspiration can strike at different times and in various forms. What do you hope people take away from your music? I hope listeners feel a genuine connection to my songs, whether it's through relatable stories, emotions, or experiences. If my songs can resonate with someone and make them feel understood, then I’ve achieved what I set out to do. You have a new project,“24/7,”tell us about this project? “24/7'” was a fun writing session with two good friends of mine Reid Sorel and W.B. Simms. We wanted to create something upbeat and relatable that captures the excitement of wanting to be with someone all the time. The song reflects that feeling of infatuation and the desire to be with someone "all day and all night." It was a great experience collaborating with friends who understand me and my sound. We had a blast writing it, and I hope listeners can feel that same sense of fun and connection when they hear it! In one word, how would you describe your sound? Soulful. My music blends heartfelt melodies with the storytelling elements of country, creating a sound that resonates emotionally with listeners. In addition to music, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? In addition to music, I also care for my GranGran, who I mentioned taught me how to sing and has been a huge inspiration for me. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years ago, and I feel very fortunate to be able to support her while pursuing my music career. She means the world to me, and this disease, to put it bluntly, just freaking sucks! Because of my experience, I do as much as I can with the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. I believe it’s important to raise awareness and support not only those affected by this condition, but their families as well. Who is your favorite musician and why? My favorite musician is Kassi Ashton. Not only is she an incredible vocalist, but she’s also a fantastic songwriter. Kassi is creative as hell and unapologetically herself, and I love that! If you haven’t seen her live, do yourself a favor and go! Her energy on stage is contagious. I truly admire her so much and love how she connects with her audience and expresses her emotions through her music. How would you describe your fashion style? I would describe my fashion style as Urban/Chic Cowgirl! I don’t even know if that’s an official style, but it’s definitely what I strive to embody. I’m a city girl through and through, but I have strong country roots. I love mixing a grungy or chic city look with staple country elements, like denim jackets, cowboy boots, and fringe details. My wardrobe is all about versatility; I enjoy layering pieces and playing with textures to create a unique vibe that feels both modern and timeless. Whether I’m performing on stage or hanging out with friends, I want my style to reflect my personality—bold, fun, and a bit adventurous! Who are some of your favorite musicians that you have worked with? I haven’t collaborated with any artists in the studio yet, but I’ve had the opportunity to open for some of my favorites, including Dylan Scott, Kassi Ashton, Nelly, Parmalee, and Julia Cole. Each of these artists are not only fun to watch live, but they were also incredibly kind humans in person. I’m so grateful that I was able to learn from them, and I’m excited for more opportunities in the future! What advice would you give other kids that want to break into music? My advice for kids who want to break into music is to stay true to yourself and embrace your unique sound. Don’t be afraid to experiment and explore different styles until you find what resonates with you. Consistent practice is key, and always be open to learning from every experience—whether it’s a performance, a workshop, or just jamming with friends. Surround yourself with supportive people who believe in your dreams and encourage your growth. Most importantly, don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game(I’mcorny, I know this! LOL). Every setback is just a stepping stone to success, so keep pushing forward and have fun along the way! Who would be your dream music collaboration and why? My dream collaboration would definitely be with Kassi Ashton or Taylor Swift! I clearly like Kassi because I’ve mentioned her so much already! I’m obsessed, but it's a healthy obsession…I swear! Kassi brings incredible energy and a unique sound to her music, and I admire her authenticity. Taylor is a master at songwriting with a remarkable knack for connecting with listeners through her lyrics. Working with both of them would be a dream come true because I’d learn so much from their artistry, and together, we could create something truly special that resonates with our fans. Plus, it would be an absolute blast to create music with artists I admire so much—as long as I don’t get starstruck and make a complete fool of myself! What is one thing that nobody knows about you? I get super nervous playing the guitar live! Singing is fine, but when it comes to picking a six-string, I get petrified! LOL. I’m working on it; it’s all about practice and confidence. So if you see my hands start sweating profusely when I play the guitar live, make sure to show your girl some extra love! Have you ever been bullied? Yes, I have, and it was really tough! For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted a nose job; it’s been on my "when I make it one day" list for years. In school, kids would laugh and say my nose looked like a horse. And while it’s big, don’t get me wrong, I’ve grown to love it! I believe there’s something beautiful about accepting yourself the way God made you. It’s incredibly powerful to take something that once made you so insecure and turn it into something you truly love about yourself. Time, maturing, and therapy have been game changers for me. I will say, the bullies gave me thick skin, and for that, I am grateful. It’s a trait you need to have in this business. So talk about my nose or don’t—I could care less! What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? My advice to kids who are facing bullying is to remember that you are not alone. It’s important to confide in someone you trust. Focus on the things that make you unique and special—embrace those qualities instead of hating them! Surround yourself with friends who uplift you and remind you of your worth. Most importantly, don’t let their words define you. I did for the longest time, and it’s the worst feeling. Self-acceptance takes time, but it’s incredibly powerful. What truly matters is how you see yourself, not what others say. Keep pushing forward and never give up on being your authentic self! If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell her? I’d tell my future self to embrace every moment and stay true to my passion for music. Remember to cherish small victories, be patient with the process, and nurture relationships with loved ones. Above all, enjoy the ride and don’t forget to have fun along the way!

What are five things that you can't live without? My faith My family Movies Music Coffee What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? These verses bring me so much joy and confidence in my work and lifestyle. Jesus looked at them and said, 'Withman this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.' - Matthew 19:26 Those who trust in the Lord will soar high on wings like eagles. - Isaiah 40:31 What's your favorite color? Blue What is your favorite movie? Scream (1996 )or Jurassic Park (1993) What is your favorite TV show? Twin Peaks (Seasons1-3), Stranger Things, and The X Files. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? I have one pet! Her name is Lucy and she is a golden retriever Collie. My family love her so much and spoil her as much as we can. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? Israel or Costa Rica. What is your favorite food? I could eat Steak every night of my life. Next to that I also love some Parmesan chicken. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? I have a whole list of artists and creatives that I would love to meet and discuss life and work with. I hope as I continue to work as an actor, more opportunities to do this will present themselves. I would absolutely love to have dinner with Steven Spielberg. I owe so much of what I get to do with my life to my parents, but Spielberg was also such a monumental creative force and inspiration for me growing up. He made me want to be a filmmaker. What made you want to start acting? My dad used to shoot short films with me when I was a little kid. That’s where I initially fell in love with the process of filmmaking from shooting to editing. As I got older, I never stopped making little movies with my friends and my dad. Eventually I grew into loving theater and doing a lot of community shows. I was in high school when I decided I wanted to pursue film and tv and auditioned for my first agency. What is the most difficult thing about being an actor? I’d say, for me, it’s a very self-critical and vulnerable field that is going to keep you guessing and learning every project that you work on. I don’t think I’ll ever stop learning, and that is daunting while also so exciting for me. It’s also an industry where you are going to have to be comfortable with critiques and judgment from audiences. But at the end of the day, there’s nothing else I would want to do for work then be a storyteller. How do you prepare for auditions? I memorize and get as comfortable with my lines as I possibly can. I tend to do as much prep that I can in my window of availability so that when I go to record, I can throw it all away and have some fun. I also just try to relax, because unless the material is asking for tension, you want to be loose and natural. What has been your most memorable role to portray and why? I think as of recently, it’s definitely Cole in the latest Terrifier movie, Terrifier 3. Fans of the series have been so welcoming and fun to chat with since the release of the film. I haven’t been recognized for a role more in my life then Cole. I’m truly honored and feel so blessed to be in this awesome film with all of this incredible cast and crew. For your role in the new horror movie, Terrifier 3, tell us about your character, Cole. How similar and different is he to your real personality? Cole is the college roommate of Johnathan Shaw, a survivor of the miles county massacre that took place 5 years earlier. Cole definitely has a large slice of me in his DNA and it was fun to play with the different layers of his character in every scene you meet him in. I’d say Cole has a little more of a brash tough surface then I do, but right under that surface is this big brother-heart that I can relate to more then anything. He’s a very rational character and I can say that I at least try my best to level with everybody and every situation. His bouncy energy is quite similar to mine as well, mostly due to the fact that I was just having a blast on set. So it worked! You are also a filmmaker yourself. Tell us how you got started behind the camera? You have an award-winning short on your resume, Smashing Pumpkins, tell us about this project. Like we discussed earlier, my dad really gave me the bug for cinematography and directing when I was younger. At first, that’s what I thought I wanted to do, but then of course I eventually leaned more into acting. As of the last 6 years, I found that I was surrounded by talented filmmaker friends and realized that we should be producing when we’re not acting or involved with other work. I fell in love with writing and started training to be a stronger filmmaker. Smashing Pumpkins was created by me and my best friend Hunter Romanillos. We found that the two of us had a huge passion for John Carpenter films and Halloween the holiday in general. Realizing that we would love to act in a film that plays in that atmosphere, we decided to write our own short film so that we can do our own Halloween movie. I’m so proud of it and it was an absolute treat to see it do well at several of these festivals. As an up and coming actor, you don’t get the luxury of choosing the next project you work on, or when you even get to work again in general. A very confirming thing for me has been casting myself in projects that I’d lover to flex my muscles with and try on new characters. In addition to acting/filmmaking, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? For about 4 summers, I worked at a bible camp in Washington State as a worship leader and counselor and it was some of the best times of my life. Each week you have new kids, from elementary school to middle school, and you just get to go crazy and have so much fun with them. You really just get on their level and it is the most epic time ever. It’s also the most present I’ve ever felt in my life. You listen a lot and you just hear what these kids have to say and what they are going through at home and at school. You get to be a big brother to them, an example of a light. I’m passionate about children growing up knowing they are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that God has amazing plans for you. That is such good news. I believe God has placed dreams and desires in our hearts for a reason and kids should grow up knowing they are worth chasing their dreams. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? I’ve recently been such a huge fan of Austin Butler and Timothee Chalamet. They are two young actors that I really admire and love to watch their work. They are so natural and nuanced in their craft, I really learn and pick up on things while watching their performances. My other favorites have got to be Emma Stone, Johnny Depp, Ethan Hawke, Winona Ryder, and Brad Pitt. All are just exceptional performers and their range is so fascinating and inspiring to me. How would you describe your fashion style? I would say my fashion style has a lot to do with my girlfriend recently. She has so much more taste then me and I’m just over here taking notes. I love vintage pieces and anything that strikes me as clean or cool 90s or 80s. Who are some of your favorite actors that you have worked with? I absolutely loved my experience working with the Stranger Things cast, but some other actor highlights would definitely be David Howard Thornton, Johnathan Schaech, and James Arnold Taylor. They are all actors I look up to and when I had the opportunity to do scenes with them, they blew my socks off with either their humility, improv or character work. One of my favorite aspects to being an actor is the amazing people you get to work with in this industry. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into the entertainment industry? Don’t ever give up! It’s a marathon not a sprint. Never stop learning. It’s a perseverance game, at some point getting booked will happen if you work hard and are prepared. Luck favors the prepared. Stick to what makes you unique and real! Never lose that. Who would be your dream professional collaboration and why? I think any opportunity to work with Steven Spielberg would be the most unforgettable experience of my life. That would be the dream. It would be so completing for me considering that I only wanted to start making movies because of Spielberg. I feel the same way about Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan, what a dream that would be. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? My favorite video game is any of the guitar hero games and I play hard mode. It’s one of my favorite wind down things to do when I’m at home. Have you ever been bullied? When I was growing up, I dealt a lot with being left out and talked about behind my back. I didn’t have any confrontation, but the isolation from the friend groups I wanted to be apart of stung like crazy. It was painful for me. Eventually, in and outside of school, I found my people and my own self confidence which opened up so many more people into my life. I was making friends with others that felt the same way and also meeting people that had such cool stories and lives. Because I felt isolated, I turned the other way and wanted others to feel the opposite with me. Part of why I have such a heart for people, is mostly due to feeling like people didn’t think I was cool enough to be in their group growing up. I hate not giving people all my attention and energy. It’s important to love everybody! What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? It is not weak to seek help. You are brave and you are worth it, no matter what others might say. Pain to others comes from pain within, so don’t listen to people projecting their own insecurities on to you. Keep yours eyes and heart open, you WILL find your people and you WILL find your purpose. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell him? I would hope to meet someone I’m proud of. I would want to tell him,“I’mproud of you. You’ve made it this far and you never stopped chasing your dream and doing what you love. You’ve surrounded yourself with people that you love and that love you. Good job and thank you.”

What are five things that you can't live without? My faith My family My dogs Books Music What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? I truly struggled to fit in with certain groups when I was younger, only to realize that I did not even like those people. I have learned to stay true to myself. I am ambitious and I want more out of life than to simply exist. I was very sick with a thyroid disorder that challenged me mentally & physically throughout much of my childhood. After finally becoming healthy, I have no time to waste on fake people or people whose main goal in life is going to the next party. I surround myself with like minded people that love me and I love them. It’s made life so much more simplistic and I am happy and content with who I am. What's your favorite color? Pink & all soft pastels What is your favorite movie? The Notebook & The Fault in Our Stars What is your favorite TV show? Stranger Things Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? Yes, three Miniature Dachshunds, Oscar, Oliver and Stella. I love them so much. Stella travels with me everywhere. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? The North Shore in Hawaii. I zip lined across the shore and you could see the expanse of the ocean and it was incredible. I also went snorkeling and happened upon two huge sea turtles. They are so majestic and it was surreal to just swim with them. What is your favorite food? My mom’s Irish Stew & literally anything Italian. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? Probably Emily Blunt. She does it all and I would love to just talk with her. How did you get started modeling? I started modeling as an Allstar cheerleader and it grew from there. What is the hardest thing about being a model? Learning to have a business mindset about rejection. You will not be chosen by every designer, just as you would not choose to wear every designers clothes. It’s just business and personal preference. It’s not personal. What has been the easiest thing about being a model? The runway. I love to perform. Being on stage feels natural to me. What is the one thing about being a model that was a “lesson learned” moment? Getting out of my comfort zone ending up with me getting published in Elle Italia. Can you share a memorable experience from a photoshoot? I was shooting on pointe for a dance company and this little girl came up and asked for a photo with me. It was the sweetest thing and made my day. As a model, what has been your favorite brand to work with so far and why? Florence by Mills was so kind and amazing to work with. I was young and new to social media and Florence by Mills had just started the makeup line. It was so fun to get to try all the new products as well as model for them. In addition to being a model what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? I love Best Buddies and Compassion International. I feel it is so important to stay grounded and humble. Working with Best Buddies during my high school years and sponsoring orphans through Compassion has helped me look outside of my world and understand that giving back is so important. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? Rachel McAdams is simply amazing to me. Her performances in Mean Girls to The Notebook were amazing. Jennifer Garner in Alias is a dream. Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lawrence, Emily Blunt, Millie Bobby Brown, there are simple so many women that inspire me with their acting. As for actors I love Ryan Gosling & Robert Pattison. How would you describe your fashion style? Fun & comfy to glamorous with the highest heels. Who are some of your favorite fellow models that you have worked with? All of the models at the Baby the Stars Shine Bright show. Everyone was so kind and the show was so well thought out. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into modeling? Make sure you want to model, because it’s your passion. The glamour fades quickly with a 12-hour work day so you need to be fully committed and passionate about modeling not just in love with the idea of modeling. I have modeled swimwear in 40 degree weather. It wasn't fun or glamorous, but I did it, because I love what I do. Who would be your dream collaboration and why? Chanel. I'm obsessed with everything they make. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? I am loyal to a fault. If I am with you, I am with you 100%. That includes friendships and relationships. Have you ever been bullied? Yes, for most of my school years. Sadly some people do not like to see people doing something different, much less succeeding at something that is perceived to be out of the norm. I did not fit into the typical mold. I saw no fun in constantly looking for the next party or the hook up culture. That just wasn't for me. I am super compassionate and I just wanted real friends and a meaningful relationship. That was hard to find. People will either be super supportive and complimentary or they will put you down and try to minimize your success. It took many years for me to realize that those people are unhappy with who they are and that was not my problem. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? The bullies will be irrelevant in your future so try not to allow them to take up space in your present. Find a trusted adult to talk with that has wisdom on the matter. Find new friends that enjoy what you enjoy. Focus on being the best at things you are passionate about and stay away from people that enjoy putting you down. That includes relationships. Understanding that bullies come in many forms, but all are envious, insecure and unhappy is life changing. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell her? You’ve got this! You’re going to accomplish so many things you never could've dreamed of! Stay grounded, humble, and keep reaching for the stars! I’m so proud of you.

What are five things that you can't live without? My AirPods – I use them constantly to stay connected, whether it's for work meetings, listening to podcasts, or relaxing with music. Otter and CoPilot – These tools are essential for my work. Otter helps me with transcriptions, and CoPilot makes managing my workload a lot easier and more efficient. Music – Music is everything to me. It helps me focus, unwind, and stay in tune no matter what mood I’m in. My Mom and Sister – My family is my foundation. They’ve been my biggest supporters, and I couldn’t imagine navigating life without their love and guidance. The Beach – I’m a certified beach bum! The beach is my happy place, where I can relax, recharge, and get some peace of mind. What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. — Maya Angelou This quote reminds me to embrace life fully and pursue my goals with enthusiasm, kindness, and authenticity. It serves as a reminder that thriving involves more than just getting by; it's about making a meaningful impact and enjoying the journey. What's your favorite color? That is difficult to choose! Right now, it is green. I have an affinity for dark green. What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is First Wives Club. I was really young when I first watched it, but it left a lasting impression on me. The way the film highlights female empowerment, friendship, and the strength women can draw from one another really resonated with me, even at a young age. I loved seeing these women take control of their lives and come together to stand up for themselves. It’s a timeless reminder of the power of solidarity and resilience. What is your favorite TV show? It’s a tie between The Equalizer and Living Single, both of which feature Queen Latifah, one of my all-time favorite entertainers. I grew up admiring her, thanks to my auntie, who bought me Queen Latifah’s movies like Beauty Shop and The Last Holiday. The Equalizer showcases her as a fearless and capable woman who help victims seek truth and justice, while Living Single was ahead of its time in portraying Black women navigating life, career, and friendships in such a relatable and empowering way. I love how Queen Latifah brings so much authenticity and strength to her roles, making her an icon in both action and comedy. She embodies versatility, which is something I aspire to in my own career and life. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? No, I currently don’t. I used to have a few dogs and a monkey growing up. Their names were Blackey, Hope, and George. Yes, we named our monkey, George, after Curious George! What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? It is a tie between Switzerland and Bimini! Geneva was breathtaking and being on the beach in Bimini was the most peaceful I ever felt. The ocean grounds me. Again, maybe it is because I am a water sign - Scorpio. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be Helen Keller, Frida Kahlo, Ray Charles, Stephen Hawking, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt(FDR).Each of them not only excelled in their fields—whether in the arts, science, or politics—but also thrived during eras when disabilities were widely misunderstood. Despite societal barriers, they pursued their goals with unwavering determination, proving that disability is not a limitation on talent, intellect, or leadership. Their legacy in advocacy and the impact they had in normalizing disability while contributing significantly to their professions continues to inspire. What is your favorite food? I consider myself an international eater! The beauty of food is that it allows you to explore and immerse yourself in various cultures. As a Ghanaian, I have a special love for plantain, beans, Waakye rice, and Abenkwan (Palm Nut) soup with Fufu. On sick days, nothing beats a warm bowl of Pho. I also enjoy gyros, falafel with rice, sushi, and classic chicken wings. And I can never resist a good chocolate milkshake! Each dish tells a story, and I love experiencing those flavors. You are the Director of Product Management at the National Apartment Association (NAAHQ),a mentor, and an advocate for underrepresented professionals in the tech industry. Tell us how you got started in the tech field? I got started in tech at a young age, sparked by my curiosity about how technology could solve problems and create more efficient systems. I had a subscription to Forbes Magazine in high school and I was reading tech blogs. I was always fascinated by how tech can be used to drive innovation, and growing up in an entrepreneurial household only strengthened that interest. My early experiences led me to pursue a career in product management, where I could blend my love for problem-solving with a strategic focus on creating impactful, scalable products. Along the way, I faced challenges as a Black disabled woman in the industry, but these experiences fueled my passion for mentoring and advocating for underrepresented professionals. In addition to your job, you also founded and launched three tech startups. Tell us about those companies? What made you want venture out and become an entrepreneur? My entrepreneurial ventures stemmed from wanting to solve specific problems I saw in the market. Each of my three startups focuses on leveraging technology to meet different needs, whether it’s in e-commerce, SaaS solutions, or creating platforms that empower communities. Venturing into entrepreneurship felt like a natural step because I’ve always had a passion for turning ideas into tangible solutions. I also wanted to challenge the status quo and build products that could truly make a difference for underserved groups. What has been the hardest part about being an entrepreneur? What has been the most rewarding? The hardest part has definitely been managing the unpredictability and the constant pivoting that’s often required when running a business. It is also the lack of funding for women and people color. It is also searching for ways to sign up new customers. As an entrepreneur, you're always learning, and sometimes that means facing setbacks that can be discouraging. However, the most rewarding part is having an idea or vision for a product and being able to execute it.There’s nothing quite like seeing an idea come to life and knowing it’s helping others in meaningful ways. The freedom to innovate and build something from the ground up is also incredibly fulfilling. How do your businesses look now as opposed to when you first started? I chose to put a pause on operating full-time in my startups because I recognize that entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. As a young professional, I wanted to develop my career and build a solid foundation. The hard truth is, entrepreneurship doesn’t pay the bills when you’re just starting out, so I’m using my 9 to 5 to fund my ventures. We've also faced some incredible roadblocks, like my technical vendor for Fyby (fybylink.com) being caught in the Ukraine-Russia war, which has caused significant delays in our launch. Despite the challenges, we’re almost done, and I’m excited to see it come to life. How do you hope to see your businesses grow in the future? My goal is to eventually go full-time with my businesses and generate enough revenue to hire a team that can dedicate their full attention to them. I also hope to raise funding and prove that disabled entrepreneurs can secure millions in investment and generate millions in revenue. Over time, I aim to scale and potentially sell some of these businesses as they grow. Like I said, it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and I’m focused on long-term success. What is the one thing that you hope people take away/remember about you and what you are doing in the tech space? I hope people remember that I’m committed to breaking barriers and creating opportunities for those who are often overlooked. My work in tech is about more than just building products; it’s about showing that talent, creativity, and leadership come in all forms. I want people to see that no matter their background or challenges, they can achieve their goals if they persist and innovate. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? I’ve mentioned Queen Latifah as one of my favorites, but I also have a deep admiration for Whoopi Goldberg. I see her as a true trailblazer, not only for her acting talent but for being a bold figure in Hollywood, rocking her dreadlocks in iconic roles. In an industry where beauty standards can be rigid, she carved her own path and proved that authenticity and talent are what truly matter. Whoopi’s presence in huge films like Sister Act and The Color Purple inspired so many, and I believe her impact continues today. For example, seeing Halle Bailey wear dreadlocks in The Little Mermaid is, in part, thanks to Whoopi's influence, paving the way for more representation and embracing natural beauty. Her courage to be herself has opened doors for so many, and I deeply respect that. How would you describe your fashion style? I would describe my fashion style as "Classy Casual" with a tropical Miami flair. I love blending clean, sophisticated looks with vibrant colors and patterns that give off a relaxed yet polished vibe. It's a mix of elegant pieces and playful, beach-inspired elements that reflect my personality and love for warm, tropical environments. Who are some of your favorite people that you have worked with in the tech space? What is one thing that you have learned from them that will help you in the future? I have been fortunate to work with incredible mentors like Anne, Tiffany, and Diana, who have been pivotal in my journey in the product management space. Their guidance and support have been invaluable in shaping my tech career. They consistently affirmed my sense of belonging and saw my potential regardless of my disability. One key lesson I’ve learned from them is the importance of resilience—always forging ahead and believing in myself, even when faced with challenges. This mindset will undoubtedly help me navigate future obstacles and continue to thrive in my career. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into the tech space and entrepreneurship? The biggest piece of advice I can give is to stay curious and keep learning. The tech world is always changing, and the more you explore, the more opportunities you’ll find. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new ideas, coding languages, or tech tools. There are so many free resources and communities out there that can help you get started. As for entrepreneurship, understand that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. It’s okay to start small and take your time developing your ideas. There will be setbacks, but the key is to stay persistent. Don’t let fear or failure stop you from pursuing your dreams. Surround yourself with mentors and people who believe in you, and always trust your own potential. If you’re passionate about what you’re doing, that passion will keep you moving forward, even through the tough times. And remember, you don’t need to have it all figured out right away—just start! Who would be your dream collaboration and why? After my time in the tech industry, I have a strong desire to step into a media executive role, where I can work on television and movie development. My passion lies in creating content that highlights disabled-centered stories, giving a platform to disabled actors, filmmakers, and storytellers. I’d love to collaborate with major platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and prominent TV networks to ensure these stories reach a global audience. There’s so much untapped talent in the disabled community, and partnering with these platforms would allow me to advocate for authentic representation and help bring those voices and experiences to the forefront. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? Most people don’t know that I play the guitar and write lyrics. Songwriting has always been a personal passion of mine, and I’d love to be more involved in the music industry one day. I’ve been writing lyrics since I was really young and even won some competitions along the way. A proud moment for me was being the very first recipient of the Nancy T. Clasby English Scholarship at the University of Miami, an award given to female students majoring in English. I double majored in Political Science and English, so it’s special knowing that I was the inaugural awardee and that the scholarship is still being awarded to this day. Music and writing have always been a part of my creative journey, and they continue to shape who I am. Have you ever been bullied? Yes, I’ve faced bullying and exclusion at different stages of my life, from elementary school to graduate school. It happened in various forms, whether it was due to my disability or just being different. Those experiences were tough, but they’ve shaped who I am today and made me even more determined to succeed. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? They may bully you for things you can't change about yourself, but remember, those very things will become your trademarks of success. What may feel overwhelming right now won’t last forever. Learn to love yourself and know that the universe is with you — you are not alone in this. Keep believing in yourself because your uniqueness will lead you to great things. If you could talk to your past self, what would you tell her? I’d tell her,“Damn,we’re doing the damn thing, and I am so proud of you for strategizing your way through this journey!” Yes, you had to hustle with tons of internships during college and grad school to prove your worth in the workplace. Yes, you had to double major and double minor for your bachelor’s degree, working so hard to build that perfect résumé and founding three startups just to get your foot in the door. But guess what? It paid off—and it's still paying off. The future is immensely bright! Keep pushing, because it only gets better.

What are five things that you can't live without? I’m kinda a nerd, so you shouldn’t ask me questions like this because I tend to get pretty literal…haha. I will guess you mean figuratively and say; * My Wife My kids My Phone My weekday morning workouts ..and at least a glass of red wine on the weekends What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? Fall down seven times, stand up eight”.It is a reminder to keep going…every time you falter. What's your favorite color? Blue What is your favorite movie? Tough one!! At the moment I’m feeling like it’s Valley Girl, with Nick Cage and Deborah Forman. What is your favorite TV show? Slow Horses. It’s the best! Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? I have amazing two dogs. Happie, my Shepherd/Lab mix fully trained service dog….and Solara, my pure bread champion Great Dane. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It’s been several years, but each visit to my best friend there has been magical What is your favorite food? I think I’m partial to Italian, but I love lots of different cultural food. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? James Baldwin. It would be a true prize to enjoy a drink with him and hear his words and reflections on our world today. What made you want to start acting? After years in the corporate/science world, I came to grips with the fact that my desire to express myself through acting had waited long enough. I did not want to get to the end of my life and ask, “Why didn’t I do that?” What is the most difficult thing about being an actor? The sacrifice I’ve made to succeed in this career has been the most difficult. It required me to break free of my blue collar, 9 to 5 job mentality, that I was raised with. In doing so, I have lost friends and become distant from family that could not understand why I made this choice. How do you prepare for auditions? Through years of training, I have learned to use various techniques to achieve what I want in my acting performances. It first requires that I understand the facts, then who I am in relation to the situation and people, and then what I am trying to achieve in a particular scene. Of course, having a memorization technique that works for you is also key to preparation. The industry is full of rejection. What is your advice on how to handle it? Don’t look at it as rejection. An audition is an opportunity for you to play a role and be seen by industry professionals. If you go into any audition with the focus on "booking the job" you are bound to be overwhelmed by feelings of rejection. It’s not a rejection of you personally. It’s not even really a rejection of you artistically. It simply is that someone has a vision for the character, and you didn’t fit into it. Yes, it’s not you, it’s them. Just enjoy your opportunity to create and move on to the next one. You have had many amazing roles throughout your career. What is the one character that you have been able to relate to the most and why? I relate to every character. The key to good acting is being able to find the truth about YOU in each character and put as much of your truth into that character as you can. If you could write the perfect role for yourself, what would it be and why? I suppose the perfect role would allow me to explore as many aspects of ME as possible, and allow me to discover things about myself that I hadn’t realized before. As an example, the show Luther’s main character played by Idris Elba must have been a dream for him. Such a complex role. It was a glorious thing to watch. In addition to acting, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? I consider myself a civil rights activist. It includes things like, helping the homeless, speaking out against poverty, and challenging corporate greed. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? Right now, I am always so fond of Jeffrey Wright. I really think he can play any role. How would you describe your fashion style? I’m a GenXer. My style is more about looking put together and refined. I’m one of those guys that LOVES to wear suits. Haha! Who are some of your favorite actors that you have worked with? Angela Bassett, Dawnn Lewis, Kenneth Choi, Stirling K Brown, Kerry Washington, and many more. Doing scenes with these actors…and spending time on set with them…is what makes this career magical. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into acting? Please be prepared for struggle! Please prioritize learning the business of acting as well as acting. Please find a successful mentor. Your mindset, your focus, and your community are what can make or break you. Who would be your dream on screen collaboration and why? Jeffrey Wright. I’d love to see what we could do. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? If I told you that, it would suddenly be a lie. I will say that most people don’t know that I grew up in the projects of Detroit, MI. Have you ever been bullied? I was absolutely bullied, yes. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? I know most kids do what I did, and simply figure out ways to avoid the bully. As I grew older, I learned that one way to not live in fear of the bully, was to confront the bully. Even when I lost the confrontation, the bully did not bother me again. I’m not saying anyone should do this though. It was a risk I took, and it was not at all the easiest or even smartest route. I’d say, try to find your community of friends and grow it. There is safety in numbers, and bullies don’t like being outnumbered. The safest and perhaps wisest option is to seek out an authority figure that can assist you with resolving your situation. Never be too afraid to talk to someone about being bullied. You’re not‘snitching’, you are stopping a menace. There is no honor in suffering in silence while a bully abuses you and/or others. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell him? I’d say, “Remember, your achievements are because of the journey, so be grateful for the journey.”

What are five things that you can't live without? Faith and Family- My faith is my cornerstone and my foundation. My family and my brother (who is my best friend) support me and keep me grounded. Creative Expression- I can’t imagine life without the ability to create. Whether it's through acting, writing or directing, it's how I connect with the world and share important messages and stories. Dancing and Performing- Dancing is not just something I love, it’s a form of expression and joy. Performing on stage or on screen has been such a big part of me since I was young. Travel and New Experiences- I thrive on adventure and learning from different cultures. Traveling inspires my work and fuels my creativity. Friends- Having a small close circle of friends who truly understand and support me is priceless. Their encouragement helps me balance the demands of my job and my busy lifestyle. What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? A quote by Michael Oher that says, Excuses make today easy, but tomorrow harder. Discipline makes today hard, but tomorrow easier. This has been my motto in life. What's your favorite color? My favorite color is red because it’s bold, passionate and full of energy, which are qualities I also bring to performing and creating. Red also represents love and warmth which reflects upon my relationships and family life. What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is Black Swan. I love it because it’s a psychological thriller that keeps the audience questioning what’s real and what’s imagined. The way it explores different perspectives is fascinating, and it leaves you thinking long after the credits roll. What is your favorite TV show? I’m a huge fan of Grey’s Anatomy. It balances the personal stories of each character with the high-stakes world of working in a hospital. The longevity of the show is a testament to the vision of the creators and also, I deeply admire Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and Shonda Rhimes. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? I rescued a German Shepard Husky mix when I was 8-years-old. I called her Ballerina Wolfina and she was my best friend. She recently passed away, and that been very difficult for my family and me. She was such a blessing the very definition of unconditional love. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? On my most recent trip to Europe I visited Sevilla, Spain. Although I have explored Spain, it was my first time in the southwest region. The first thing I noticed was the dialect of the Spanish language which was much more similar to what I’m familiar with, everyone sounded like a member of my family. The city itself was warm and inviting, with very small town vibes which really drew me in. It’s really a magical place. What is your favorite food? I love Sushi. It can be simple or incredibly complex, which I really appreciate. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be Scarlett Johansson. I admire her incredible career trajectory from starting as a child actress to becoming one of the highest-paid actresses in the industry. She’s been nominated for countless awards, and I think she would have a unique and valuable perspective of the entertainment business. Her ability to balance mainstream success with artistic integrity is something I really respect, and I’d love to hear more about her journey firsthand. What made you want to start acting? I’ve always enjoyed performing, I remember being very little dancing around the living room and putting on the "Julia Show" for my family. My brother has always been my biggest fan and has always encouraged me. I started ballet very early and with each dance recital it ignited the need for more. I was four years old when I saw my friend on a McDonald's commercial and I begged my mom to be on TV. She finally caved and called my friend’s dad to find out what we needed to do. That one phone call changed everything, that was the beginning of my acting career. What is the most difficult thing about being an actor? The uncertainty and the constant change of the business is the most difficult. The industry is unpredictable and even with hard work and preparation there are factors beyond your control. Balancing vulnerability and resilience are a challenge and you have to be strong to handle the constant rejection. How do you prepare for auditions? Preparation is key, understanding the character breakdown will give you a guideline on how to proceed with the script. I read the script multiple times to gauge the character’s perception and the dynamic of the scene. Breaking down the scene and how the character feels about the situation at hand sets the tone for the audition. The industry is full of rejection. What is your advice on how to handle it? My advice would be not to take rejection personally. The key is to stay resilient, keep improving and working on your craft, and remember why you started acting in the first place. Surround yourself with people who support you and focus on the joy of performing rather than the outcome. You have had many wonderful roles. What has been the one role that you relate to the most? Playing Jeni on ABC’s Station 19 was really a wonderful role. Jeni had depth and had so much loss in her life. Although I am blessed to still have my mother by my side, I understood what it might feel like to be lost and alone needing your mother during a transitional time in a girl’s life. My heart went out to her because I never want to feel what it would be like to navigate life without my mom. It was also a role that was incredibly powerful which sparked clips to go viral around the world because growing up alone or without a mother is unfortunately a hard truth that many people must face. Sparking a conversation and bringing people together was truly a special moment for me. If you could write the perfect role for yourself, what would it be and why? If I could write the perfect role for myself, it would be a complex and layered character. Likely mysterious with a conflicted past that would unravel in unexpected ways. I love roles that challenge both me as an actor as well as the audience. I enjoy telling untold stories that provoke thought, and that hold a lasting impact on the viewers. In addition to acting, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is important? I’ve helped raise money for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Saint Jude and other charities to be a voice for ill children who need support, hope and encouragement. My brother was an ill child and I’ve seen first-hand the needs of children and their families during difficult times of uncertainty. I’m also an ambassador for Teen Cancer America as well. Supporting these brave warriors and raising awareness is important to me. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? My favorite actress is Natalie Portman. I admire her incredible career, her ability to take on diverse and challenging roles is amazing. She has a psychology degree from Harvard University which shows her dedication to education alongside her acting career. I deeply respect her for her Academy Award for Black Swan, which is my all-time favorite movie. She has inspired me with my own work. How would you describe your fashion style? I’d say my fashion style is classic chic with an emphasis on elegance. I love wearing pieces that are timeless and elegant, often inspired by Old Hollywood. My wardrobe consists of conservative cuts and silhouettes, but I always look for elements that enhance my femininity like tailored dress or soft fabrics. Who are some of your favorite actors that you have worked with? I had the absolute pleasure of working with David Arquette, Constance Wu, Randall Park, Shemar Moore, and Caroline Rhea who are all so kind and amazing, but it was my time with Shaun Cassidy and Scott Bakula that really was special. They are complete legends with vision unlike any others. Watching them work was truly a gift; their insight and guidance has forever left an impression on my heart. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into acting? The best advice to give kids wanting to break into the business is to have fun. Keeping things light and low pressure are essential. My mom always told me that the job is to audition, have fun with each audition because the bookings are far and few in between. Resetting your perspective of auditions is important because it takes away the pressure of booking. Who would be your dream on-screen collaboration and why? My dream on-screen collaboration would be with Denzel Washington. He is a phenomenal actor, producer and director whose career has spanned four decades. I admire his versatility and depth in every role he takes on. He is not only incredibly talented but also someone who knows how to bring powerful stories to life. Collaborating with him would be a tremendous opportunity to learn from his experience and creativity. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? I’m a homebody at heart. I love staying in, watching movies and spending time with my family. I really enjoy simple things like cooking and relaxing at home. It’s how I recharge and stay grounded, especially with living a busy lifestyle that comes with being an actress. Have you ever been bullied? Yes, I most definitely have been bullied. Elementary school was very difficult for me, I was often taken out of school for work purposes and when the job was completed, I went back to school. Life moved on while I was away and others’ friendships evolved which led me to feel out of place and alone. When I tried to hang out with the girls that I thought were my friends, I was met with either laughter and belittling or acts of sarcasm with comments like “you can’t act,” or “you aren’t really an actor you’re lying.” To say the groups of girls would sit and laugh at my expense would be an understatement. My “friends” on the playground would run away from me and say mean things to ensure I would know I wasn’t welcome. I remember being eight-years-old and coming home crying and telling my dog that she was my only friend. Unfortunately, bullying is so normalized and handled with a "kids will be kids" mentality. At the school I attended it was swept under the rug. Being mean and spiteful is never OK, making someone feel small and insignificant is horrible. I never want anyone to feel the way I did. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? My advice would be to please remember you aren’t alone. It’s important to talk to someone you trust, a parent or teacher, about what you’re going through. You deserve to feel safe and accepted. Think about starting a new activity or joining a local group, sometimes those connections can lead to lasting friendships. Focus on being kind to yourself, and don’t let their words define your worth. You are unique and valuable just as you are. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell her? I would tell her to embrace every opportunity and not to be afraid to take risks. Trust your instincts and remember that each experience, even the challenging ones, contribute to your growth. I’d remind her to step outside her comfort zone and most importantly, I would tell her to enjoy the journey because the passion she has for storytelling will guide her to incredible places.

Talent Spotlight with Tristan Riggs
What are five things that you can't live without? I’d definitely need my skateboard, my contacts/glasses, my cologne collection, my gaming computer, and a stylish wardrobe. What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? Be yourself, and don’t change who you are just to fit in with others. What's your favorite color? Green. What is your favorite movie? I’m all about 21 Jump Street. It’s hilarious, and I’m a big fan of the actors. What is your favorite TV show? Stranger Things is my top pick! I’m really looking forward to the new season. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? Yes! I’ve got two dogs, Aster and Levi, and a Crested Gecko named Dorito. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? Germany stands out for me. I loved the architecture, charming towns, and castles. One highlight was staying in a castle with a moat and drawbridge, owned by a descendant of German nobility. We even tried on real knights’ armor and took rides in his vintage 1927 Durant Rugby. It was an unforgettable experience. What is your favorite food? My dad’s goulash is unbeatable. It’s super flavorful and customizable. The mix of shredded cheeses he adds really makes it special. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? I’d choose Jack Black. He’s incredibly funny and seems like someone who would be great to chat with. You are both a musician and actor. Let’s start with acting! What made you want to start a career in front of the camera? Watching my sister’s dedication to theater really inspired me. Seeing her on stage made me want to perform too. My first role as a day player on a TV series was what really ignited my passion for acting. What is the most difficult thing about being an actor? Juggling auditions, school, and work can be challenging, especially when you’re balancing it all while still in school. You have had many wonderful roles. What has been the one role that you relate to the most and why? I connect deeply with my character Aiden from General Hospital. He shares a strong bond with his mother, much like I do with mine. She’s always there for me, even traveling with me to set, which means a lot. If you could write the perfect role for yourself, what would it be and why? I’d create a role packed with stunts. I’ve done some of my own stunts, including wire work, falls, and martial arts. I’m fascinated by stunt work and I love to get the behind-the-scenes look at how it’s done! Now on to music. You are a musician and a singer. Tell us how you got started with music. I started singing in elementary school choir, following my sister’s lead, and developed a real passion for it. Plus, my dad plays guitar, which inspired me to pick up the instrument myself. What is your favorite genre of music? In one word, how would you describe your sound? Lately, I’m into Indie music. I’d describe my sound and taste as eclectic. In addition to acting and music, what other things are you passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is important? I’m active in Boy Scouts and have earned my Eagle Scout rank. I’ve also built a library book box in my neighborhood to encourage kids to read more. It’s still in use and has shown me how rewarding community service can be. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? Keanu Reeves stands out for me. He’s known for being a genuinely good person, and I admire how he uses his influence for positive impact. How would you describe your fashion style? I have a mix of styles. I’m into streetwear, Japanese fashion, and high-end brands. I love combining selvedge denim with streetwear, and I also appreciate luxury items from Maison Margiela, Rick Owens, and Alchemist. Plus, Goro’s jewelry is a favorite of mine. Who are some of your favorite actors and musicians that you have worked with? I’ve had the chance to work with some amazing people like MOD SUN, Kyle Park, Keith David, Judd Nelson, and many others, including my sister, Charlotte Delaney Riggs. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into acting? Get solid training. Working with a well-regarded acting coach can give you a great start and teach you a lot about the craft. Who would be your dream on-screen collaboration and why? I’d love to work with John Cena. He’s hilarious, and the last movie I saw with him, Ricky Stanicky, quickly became one of my favorites. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? I’m an expert sleeper. I can fall asleep anywhere—on set, on a fold-out metal chair, on stairs, park benches, you name it. I even won the “Best Nap-time Sleeper Award” in kindergarten! Have you ever been bullied? Luckily, I haven’t experienced bullying personally, but I’ve supported friends who have. I’ve worked on anti-bullying campaigns with HEB, a Texas grocer known for its community efforts. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? Speak up and talk to an adult about what’s happening. Getting help early is crucial to addressing the problem before it escalates. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell him? I’d advise him not to sweat the small stuff and to make time for the things he loves. Don’t let work consume all your time.

Woodward
Sophia
Sophia Woodward is an actress most known for her role of “Luna Loud,” the bold, outspoken, and punk rock musician, in Nickelodeon’s The Really Loud House. She started acting in musical theater when she was eight-years-old and began working in television by the time she was twelve. She has starred in shows for networks such as FOX, Paramount, YouTube, Nickelodeon, and more. Action Magazine had the extreme pleasure to catch up with this talented young lady. Take a look at her answers to our game of Q&A to get to know her better! Check out her interview and don’t forget to follow her on Instagram. You don't want to miss a minute of this journey!
What are five things that you can't live without? I can’t live without my family, my friends, my drive, music, and my emotional support water bottle. What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? I had a theater director once tell me, You are far more interesting than anything anyone wants you to be. I’ll always remember that. What's your favorite color? Dark green. What is your favorite movie? Silence of the Lambs. What is your favorite TV show? It is IMPOSSIBLE to pick, I consume an unhealthy amount of television (as it is my job). I have, however, been recently obsessed with The Middle. I watch it on the treadmill at the gym, I watch it while I eat dinner, and I watch it right before I go to bed at night. I’m loving it. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? My family has two dogs, Annie( Blue Heeler) and Scout (Jack Russell Terrier). What is your favorite food? A grilled cheese with tomato soup! What made you want to start acting? I auditioned for a local musical theater company when I was eight. They were doing The Little Mermaid. I remember stepping on the stage and immediately thinking, "This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.” That was all it took. What is the most difficult thing about being an actor? The most difficult thing is the industry. Entertainment is a very unstable career path, so it’s important that you really love the work. How do you prepare for auditions? I’ve taken an uncountable amount of classes on audition prep and how to execute auditions so I’ve got my process pretty laid out. It’s important to me that I don’t put a lot of pressure on auditions because, at the end of the day, they’re just an opportunity to perform! If I’m feeling the pressure of “Am I going to get this job,” it’s going to show in the performance. So, I break down the script and character as much as I can. I find the moments in the scene that enliven me and play with those. Plus, I almost always coach with someone, because even though I’ve been auditioning for around a decade, it’s always beneficial to have a second opinion with fresh eyes on the performance. The industry is full of rejection. What is your advice on how to handle it? It’s vital to be secure in yourself and confident in your path. When I was thirteen, I got really close to an ABC pilot. It was between me and one other girl. I wanted it so bad and I had gone to countless callbacks, producer sessions, director sessions, screen tests, etc. The job was right in front of me and it felt so possible. At the last second, they hired the other girl over me because she had blue eyes and I had brown. The woman who would be playing my mom had blue eyes, so they figured it would look better. I was heartbroken when my manager called to tell me. I gave myself five minutes to cry about it, then I forced myself to move on. I always told myself (and still do) that if something’s not meant for me, then there will be something better. That pilot never got picked up, so it doesn’t seem like I missed out on much. You have had many wonderful roles. What has been the one role that you relate to the most? I relate to all of the roles that I’ve played in different ways. Playing Luna has been such a blast because of the musical element of her character, so I’ve gotten to play all sorts of instruments on the show. What other job do you get paid to learn fun skills like that? I also recently did a short film titled Oceanless Beach where my character, Beth, has a really rough night being bullied by her friends at a party. Playing Beth gave me an outlet to release some stuff that I’ve been carrying with me since I was much younger. That was very fulfilling. If you could write the perfect role for yourself, what would it be and why? Growing up, my favorite Disney princesses were Mulan and Pocahontas. Now that I’m older, I realize that it’s because they were warriors with insane amounts of strength and courage, as well as princesses who valued gentleness, compassion, and tenderness. I really love and gravitate towards characters like that. In addition to acting, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? I’m very passionate about the foster care system. I lived in Oklahoma throughout high school and had the opportunity to speak with the District Attorney through my school during my sophomore year about local issues. The Oklahoma foster care system is one of the worst in the nation. It has the highest foster family turnover in the nation, where 40% of families close their doors within their first year of fostering. Homes are very often unsafe, siblings are separated more often than not, and there is a severe lack of resources. It’s no coincidence that Oklahoma also has one of the highest female incarceration rates in the entire world. Over 50% of those women are mothers. The corruption, lack of governmental support, and overall failure is not only true in Oklahoma, it’s simply the example I’m most educated on. The foster care system has been failing children nationwide, and there are more ways to help these children than by becoming a foster family. As students and young people in the world, the easiest way to help is simply by showing kindness to your peers and classmates. You never know what people are going home to, and kindness is the most accessible way to create change. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? If I think about whose career I want, it’s always Emma Stone’s. She’s done everything. She’s done musicals on screen (LaLa Land), musicals on Broadway (Cabaret), comedies (Superbad, Zombieland), Rom-Coms (Crazy Stupid Love), coming of age movies (EasyA), biopics (Battle of the Sexes), art films (Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness), period pieces (The Favourite), and more. That’s everything I could ask for and more. How would you describe your fashion style? My style is whatever I like. People get too caught up in the “aesthetic” of things. Buy what you like! Wear what you like! Decorate how you like! If YOU like it, it will go together! Who cares if other people like it or not, it’s YOURS. Who are some of your favorite actors that you have worked with? Definitely not Brian Stepanek or Jolie Jenkins. Such divas. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into acting? If you love the work and can’t imagine yourself doing anything else, then don’t give up! It’s a hard industry, but don’t let it kill your fire. Who would be your dream on screen collaboration and why? Emma Stone. Refer above. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? You don’t know it for a reason. Have you ever been bullied? Absolutely. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? My dad always said to me, “Hurt people hurt people.” Bullies are masking their own insecurity and pain by taking it out on others. That doesn’t make it right, but hopefully it lets you know to never stoop down to their level. The best ways to get back at bullies are to prove them wrong and to show them that their words don’t affect your confidence. Remember, you are far more interesting than anything anyone wants you to be. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell her? I’d tell my future self how proud I am of her. I don’t know for certain where she is, but I know she’s smarter, stronger, and has a better sense of who she is. That’s all that matters.

Check out her interview and don’t forget to follow her on Instagram. You don't want to miss a minute of this journey!
What are five things that you can't live without? Family, friends, my cat, my car and Pinterest. What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? Everything happens for a reason. What's your favorite color? Brown, it doesn’t deserve the hate it gets. What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is Whiplash, I recently saw it again in the theater and it will always feel like watching it for the first time. What is your favorite TV show? My favorite TV show is The Bear but a close second is The Office. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? I do! I have a cat named Callie and a dog named Pedro. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? Last summer, I went to Italy and that easily takes first place. What is your favorite food? It changes weekly but at the moment I love cheese quesadillas. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? My family. All of my siblings are older and have families of their own and I miss our time together. What made you want to start acting? I honestly don’t remember a pivotal moment that started my love for acting, it’s just always been there. I can’t remember a time where I didn’t want to be an actress. What is the most difficult thing about being an actor? Having patience has probably been the most difficult for me. How do you prepare for auditions? I try to do the most research about the project as I can to then have a foundation that I can build the character off of. The industry is full of rejection. What is your advice on how to handle it? Try to have rejection become your motivation. Definitely easier said than done but it can really help. You have had many wonderful roles. What has been the one role that you relate to the most? I have different parts of each character that I can relate to, it’s so hard to choose just one! If you could write the perfect role for yourself, what would it be and why? Iv’e always wanted to play a perfectionist, someone that’s addicted to their craft. (Black Swan, Whiplash, etc.) In addition to acting, what other things are you are passionate about? (charity work, volunteering, etc.) Can you tell us about this work and why do you feel that it is it important? My brother Austin was diagnosed with a kidney disease a few years ago. I would love to raise awareness and show my support. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? I really love Emma Stone, all of her roles have such a personal feel to them and the variety between them is awesome. How would you describe your fashion style? Comfortable! I prefer pajama pants over anything else. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into acting? Anything is possible with enough effort and passion. Who would be your dream on screen collaboration and why? I would love to work with Rachel Sennott, I feel like our style would mesh well with each other. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? I became an aunt when I was 10. Now I have 2 nephews, 2 nieces and a third niece on the way. Have you ever been bullied? I was homeschooled at a pretty early age, so I didn’t grow up around a lot of kids, not that it never happened but definitely not often. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? Talk to someone you trust. You don’t have to suffer in silence. Spend time with the people that lift you up. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell her? No matter where you are in this journey, I hope you never give up! I believe in you!
What are five things that you can't live without? Family, food, water, air and internet. What's your life's motto or advice that you live by? Do your best to do the right thing, even when others aren’t watching. What's your favorite color? Blue is my overall favorite color. Seems common but it’s my fav. What is your favorite movie? Actually, I have 2 favorites. The first is Grease and the second is Top Gun. (Both of them) Dang! I guess that’s 3. What is your favorite TV show? That’s a good question because I like so many different styles that it’s hard to choose. Today’s favorite can be forgotten if a new series comes out. The ones I do enjoy most are reality TV type shows. Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what's their name? No pets. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love pets but could not dedicate the time properly to a pet that it deserves. What is your favorite place that you've traveled to? When I was in the US Navy, we traveled a lot! But I have to say I really did enjoy Australia the most for sure! What a great time I had there. I got to spend 2 months there for the bicentennial in 1988 and let me tell you, THAT was a party for sure! What is your favorite food? Ohhhhhhh!!!! Food styles! Finger foods like snacks are awesome! Chips, sweets etc. But for nutrition, the style I like most is Italian! Give me an amazing pasta or pizza dish and I'm in HEAVEN! If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be with and why? Listen…This might not be the answer you want but it’s the answer you’ll get. My family. That’s who I enjoy the most. Having dinner with my wife and kids brings me the most happiness. Think of it like this with the kids, when you break it down to the simplest form…you have 18 summers. Those are the years they grow so much and need the most guidance. (Whether they want it or not) Spending time with family is what will mean the most to everyone in the end. What you don’t do now, you’ll wish you did in the end. Family. What first sparked your interest in magic? This one also answers who my biggest influence in magic was. Literally a TV show I watched as a kid with a magician named Doug Henning. His style was so fun. He didn’t come across with a "better than you" kind of attitude. Genuinely a good person and for me, that got me interested big time! How do you come up with new illusions and routines? Oh wow! Great question! The simplest answer is this: Imagine a result of something that you would consider magical and then work it backwards to see how to make it happen. At some point you will decide if it was worth it or not. I had an idea that I wanted someone to be able to choose a card and then somehow, by magic, they were able to see right through the card like an X-ray. It’s my original effect and it is called X-Ray Eyes by Jeff Ezell. Very visual and surprising. What role does storytelling play in your performances, balancing the illusion of magic with the reality of performance? Personally, "storytelling" works best when it comes from life experiences. If you can relate something in your show to a life experience, the audience feels more connected in most cases. I tell a story about one of my very first professional gigs and I do the trick I performed in the audition to get that gig. I make the whole thing relatable. How do you deal with skepticism from audience members? Skeptics and hecklers in general are just a part of the deal. You know hey are there but the reality is you are there to entertain EVERYONE. There are plenty of people in the crowd to enjoy your show. Let them know you appreciate them by putting on an amazing show and let the hecklers and skeptics know you are aware of them by putting on an amazing show! In addition to being a magician, what other things are you are passionate about? Kindness. I am passionate about doing my best to be kind to others. I'm not perfect at all and am aware that you can’t just walk around in a garden of roses all day but I do try. Who is your favorite actor/actress and why? I am a fan of Jim Carrey and his comedic style. I became a fan of his when the movie Dumb and Dumber came out. I feel like I literally laughed through the whole movie! How would you describe your fashion style? Hmmmmm. Depends on the setting I guess. I enjoy dressing in jeans and a polo shirt but clean up real nice in a suit when needed. Who are some of your favorite magicians that you have worked with? As a magician, we typically "work" on our own and in our own shows. Rarely do I work with others. When I have, it has been a cast of magicians on a cruise ship. What advice would you give other kids that want to break into magic? Study, practice, study and practice again. Get in front of as many people that you can when you are starting off. People you like and that will give you feedback. Learn and grow from that feedback. If you could perform with any magician, living or dead, who would it be and why? Doug Henning mainly because he was the one that I enjoyed watching as a kid. What is one thing that nobody knows about you? Well, If I told you…. Have you ever been bullied? Unfortunately, yes. What is your advice to kids that are suffering from bullying? Kenny Rogers said it best…’It don’t mean you’re weak if you turn the other cheek. You don’t have to fight to be a man.’ You get to choose how you act or react. Don’t get in the dirt with the bully. Stay above it somehow. If you could talk to your future self, what would you tell him? Continue the course. I’ve seen where you’re going and everything will be ok. Even with a few bumps in the road, everything will be OK.
Jeff Ezell is truly one mystifying magician that unleashes the world of magic through mind-bending tricks and illusions. Action Magazine caught up with this phenomenal talent to get to know him a bit better. Stay tuned because we have a feeling we will all be seeing and hearing a lot more from him in the future! After you take a peek at some of her answers to our staple game of Q&A, make sure to follow him on Instagram. This is one journey that you won't want to miss!
