On October 11th, the founder of the YMCA, George Williams, would have turned 203! He led the founding of the YMCA in London at age 22 in 1844, and since then the Y has counted on young people to bring new ideas and energy to our organization, including here in Utah. Here are some fun facts about the YMCA of Northern Utah: The YMCA opened in Salt Lake City in 1893- over 125 years ago! YMCA Camp Roger opens in 1948. In 1968, a new full YMCA facility is opened in Salt Lake City (later closed in 1991). In 2010 and 2014, the YMCA opens Community Family Centers in Taylorsville and Ogden to expand our reach in youth programs! As you can see, the YMCA has a rich history right here in Utah! Dear Salt Lake Afterschool Families, We’re off to a wonderful start to the new school year, and it’s been exciting to see our afterschool programs buzzing with energy again! Each day includes homework support, a healthy snack, and team-building activities that help kids stay on track academically while having fun with their peers. If you know families looking for a positive, engaging environment for their kids, we’d love to welcome them into our Y community. Mark your calendars for our Fall Festival on Thursday, October 24! This event will feature games, activities, and a clothing drive to support families in need. Stay tuned for more details, updates will be shared on ClassDojo and flyers will be sent home soon. On a personal note, it’s been such a joy to see children making friends, finishing homework, and building confidence through leadership opportunities and teamwork. Watching them grow inspires me every day, and I’m grateful to share this journey with you. Carmen Te'o, Preschool Child Care Director
