And finally, as I write this, our Samaritan DSA Banquet is shaping up nicely, and selling out. Don’t forget the 1847 After Party, which is reservation only, and has 30 spots left. $15 gets you a cocktail, a private party, and appetizers that just keep flowing. I’m particularly excited to have this time to relax, cut loose, and enjoy just being one of the party crowd. If you’re smart, you’ll grab a room at Boulder Falls for only $99 which includes two tickets to the 1847 After Party. I feel great about our energy as our world-famous Ambassadors plan on hosting their statewide conference, our building begins to take shape, we have renewed interest in membership, and Lebanon feels poised for great things. Happy Valentines Day to all!
We had a fabulous luncheon this past month where JL Wilson from the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce helped catch us up on all things business-related that will be coming up in this legislative short session. We will try to pass along information he sends as the session progresses. We also gave an update to pur building, which is probably our biggest news at this point. The demo of the walls that need to be removed begins the week of February 19th, with a goal of occupying the building again by the Strawberry Festival. I think it will do us all some good to see progress on this project. We are going to end up with a Chamber and Visitors Center that will make a great first impression, help attact visitors and businesses alike, and generally help reflect our culture and history that make us unique. The last thing we did was to welcome our new Board Chair, Angie Kutsch, of The Oaks at Lebanon fame. Angie has already served two years at Chair-Elect. She’s a strong chamber advocate and serves our business community well. I’m looking forward to her leadership with our group. We also welcome our newest board member Maryann Honeyman. We are lucky to have her sunny personality on the board, replacing Bill Flesher who, after 10 years, termed out on the board. We are going to miss him like crazy, but having Maryann helps to keep us in touch with the mortgage industry as your board looks to the future and setting our chamber up for success as best we can.

The Linn County Veterans Memorial Association in collaboration with Gold Star Families have designed the Gold Star Families Memorial to be added to the Memorial located at Timber Linn Park in Albany, OR. This was done with three things in mind. First, that it would fit in with the hardscape of the existing memorial. Second, that Gold Star Families would approve of the design. Third, that it would be built and dedicated by Memorial Day 2024. Pictured above is the artwork and dedication statement that has been chosen. The people of Linn County and the Mid-Willamette Valley have faithfully supported veterans and veteran’s services. If you, your business, or community organization would like to help us make the Gold Star Families Memorial a reality, we would appreciate your financial donations in any amount. . All donations will be gratefully accepted and documented for tax purposes.** Additional information is available at our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/Linn.County.Veterans.Memorial/permalink/6760512883996904) you may write:Linn County Veterans Memorial Association, PO Box 1739, Albany, OR 97322 **Receipt(s) for donations above $250 will be mailed to you. If you would like a receipt for your donation of any amount can be mailed upon request.
⭐Gold Star Families Memorial⭐ When the new Veterans Memorial was being designed in about 2005, the main goal was to honor those citizen soldiers of Linn County, who have given their lives in service to our country. Garner Pool, the first President of the Linn County Veterans Memorial Association brought forth the motto by which the memorial was built “Building a Fitting and Proper Memorial”. For the past three years work at the memorial has been done to expand the “sentry” walls which hold bricks engraved with the names, dates, and branches of service in which soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and merchant marine veterans served honorably. A portion of the sales of those bricks left the association with funds to replace flags, and maintain the memorial in Timber Linn Memorial Park. While planning the expansion, the Association applied to Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department through the City of Albany for an Oregon Heritage Grant. The planning included the movement of the plaques from the original War Memorial, dedicated in 1968, to a new location to make room for a memorial dedicated to the Gold Star Families. The Executive Board and Officers of the Linn County Veterans Memorial Association began designing the memorial. This was done with three things in mind. First, that it would fit in with the hardscape of the existing memorial. Second, that Gold Star Families would approve of the design. Third, that it would be built and dedicated by Memorial Day 2024. The main portion is black granite panel with the Gold Star, a tri-folded American Flag, and white lettering for the dedication. It is done with a laser which injects the color into the granite, a process done by OM Stone in Hillsboro. The granite will be held in a brick-and-mortar memorial stand. The Board and Officers of the LCVMA are dedicated to keeping the motto of the memorial aesthetically, and financially. The Association is a 501© 3 not-for-profit corporation. No board members or officers are paid, and most of the work at the memorial is done voluntarily by veterans and supporters of veterans. The estimated cost of the completed Gold Star Families Memorial will be between eight and ten thousand dollars.
