Mission Statement Executive Security International, Ltd. exists to raise the standard in Executive Protection, PSD Protective Operations, Corporate Security Management, and Tactical Medicine through intelligence-based training. History In 1980, after a decade as a director of the Aspen Academy of Martial Arts and protection work for celebrities, Bob Duggan created training programs under the aegis of Executive Security International, Ltd (ESI). In 1981, ESI was founded as a closely held Colorado Corporation, and the School was approved and regulated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education under the Private Occupational Education Act to offer a 600-hour combined Distance Education and Resident Training Program. In 2012, ESI's home delivery Distance Education courses were taken ON-LINE. In1989, ESI received approval for its Intelligence and Investigation Program, which was further expanded in 1996 to become the highly regarded Protective Intelligence Program. In 2005, ESI introduced a series of 28-Day Residency Programs that included Executive Protection and PSD ProtectiveOperations. The 28-Day Tactical 1st Responder Medical and the Corporate Crisis Management Programs followed soon afterward. The Residencies cover the theory and practical training components in a full-time format where students complete all of the training in the classroom or practical field training. In 2012, Bob Duggan created a new educational platform, The International Security Institute (ISI), for a broad curriculumin the many facets of corporate security and threat management. The International Security Institute is a wholly-owned sub-division of ESI. The industry knows who we are, and they will want to know who you are when they see ESI on your resume. Conducting training since 1980, ESI is intelligence-based ExecutiveProtection and Corporate Security Training Academy that offers 2000 hours of peer-reviewed curriculum from which the student can choose to suit their career goals. ESI combines its core training inintelligence and protection into an integrated curriculum. The Residency formats require full-time attendance of training in Colorado, while a student in the Online Program may enroll at any time in nine independent study courses completed ONLINE, plus15-Days of Resident Training in Colorado. This Program is approved for certifications and ESI Credentials. ESI TRAINS TO A STANDARD! Whether it's corporate America, dignitary protection, the celebrity industry, threat assessment, or security, the people that do the hiring know this, and they know our graduates are prepared to hit the ground running, putting you at the top of the call back list. Our teaching standards are what distinguish ESI from any other security training organization-training to a standard means that students receive an ESI Credential based on performance, not for presence in a classroom. All aspects of training at ESI are evaluated by passing team and individual testing in hard and soft skills. Regardless of background, the student is expected to demonstrate comprehension and competence in the skillsets taught in practical exercises and ESI's signature teaching philosophy. We hold ourselves to the highest of standards so that you can carry your Credential with pride, knowing it represents the over 45 years of training as recognized by the Colorado Department of Education. All ESI Certificate programs are approved and regulated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education, Division of Private Occupational School Board. ESI offers Credentials in the following specialties: Certified Protection Specialist CPS, Certified PSD Protection Specialist, CPSDS, Certified Corporate Security Management Specialist, CCSMS, Certified Advanced Protection Specialist, CAPS Students enroll in ESI's programs from all over the world, and with the exception of the US Secret Service or State Department, no other training organization teaches protection specialistst o such a high standard.

Each course under taken within each Module will be included in the computing of the GPA. A GPA minimum of 71% will be required at the end of each Module to enter the second and third Modules. If the student scores 70% or less in any course, a re-examination can be scheduled for a later date. If the student drops below 60% in the first half of the Program, he or she will be terminated from the training. Executive Security International does not offer the Certified Protection Specialist ™ for completing a one-week seminar in close protection. ESI divides Bodyguard Services into four divisions of the profession: PSD Protective Operations, Celebrity Protection, Estate Security, Protection of High Net Worth Individuals and Families. We divide our teaching up into each of these enterprises because we believe that they each encompass a distinctive styles of operation and they each have very different client expectations. There is no single model of Protection that any credibility in Executive Protection Services. "THE EXECUTIVE PROTECTION SPECIALIST EITHER ADAPTS OR GOES HOME" The Executive Protection Training Program consists of essential courses for both beginners and Security Professionals who want to bolster their resume with a certification from a school that both meets a standard acceptable to the corporate world, and has a reputation in the Executive Protection Industry. The Executive Protection Training Program seamlessly incorporates classroom training and practical exercises to equip graduates with the skills required to launch a career in Executive Protection. Upon completing the diverse spectrum of courses in the program and meeting the minimum GPA requirements, each graduate will obtain his or her Certified Protection Specialist™ (C.P.S); a coveted credential that is in high demand within the Executive Protection industry. Given the tumultuous environment of the modern corporate world, skills in the field of Corporate Security are paramount to success in a Protective Services profession. This program will familiarize students with the fundamental principles of Corporate Security in regards to Executive Security Services, Threats to Employees, and Stalking of Employees. A successful Corporate Security structure will integrate security practices into an organization's everyday routine, and train non-security personnel to be the front line of defense. It will pinpoint organizational risks and partner with other corporate departments, such as Internal Auditing, Ethics, Legal, Human Resources, and IT Security to build functional security and protection programs. In the Executive Security Program, we try to answer the questions, " What is my problem, why is it my problem, and what am I going to do about it.
Executive Protection Residency
The teaching philosophy of Executive Protection at ESI begins with the recognition that reactive techniques by close protection security agents to deadly assaults on public figures suffer a 100% failure rate and the failure rate of prankster assaults is nearly as high. To address this failure, ESI has developed a unique "proactive protection methodology." Our Intelligence-Based Training program has evolved to optimum effectiveness over the last four decades.
"We start with the premise that preemptive intervention and protective invisibility are "handmaidens" and by far the preferred form of Executive Protection. ESI trains students to be "Predator Hunters" using behavioral intelligence as the best method of identifying a predator and closing the distance to make preemptive intervention possible. The techniques require a mindset of funneling predators into a surveillance zone where contact can be made and a decision to go hard or soft can be made. " Bob Duggan, President and Founder ESI.
ESI's method of Executive Protection training differs from the much more basic training found elsewhere. During training, you will participate in our 7-day "Stalker Exercise." Using the lessons from that you will be required to produce an analytical Threat Assessment and Management Plan. We have had students produce over 50 pages of analysis and planning in this component. Students who score very well in writing this analytical report receive an additional certificate, which serves as a resume enhancer which is recognized by the major employers in the industry. This is one of the skills that sets our graduates apart and establishes ESI's distinct identity in the close protection training universe. Demonstrating the capacity to write a corporate level Threat Assessment is often the difference between being a team member and a team leader in the field.
The Executive Protection Program is offered as either: a 28-Day residency in Grand Junction, CO, or a hybrid program that encompasses nine courses online plus 17-days of hands on training. This rigorous program is designed to foster the success of graduates protecting executive clients, with a focus on Corporate Executive Protection and the wide variety of considerations that contribute to a successful Protective Detail. Other career paths include Chauffeuring, Hotel & Casino Security, GSOC Operations, Protective Intelligence Analyst, Command Post Operations, Surveillance, Surveillance Detection, Advance Agent, Security Services, Corporate Security, and Estate Security/ Residential Security Team members.
ADVANCES Embracing the technological components of private security is what sets the Executive Protection Specialist apart from a bodyguard. Digital mapping technology is evolving very rapidly and this course attempts to keep pace with it. Under the direction of Ivor T, students learn how to use new tools for conducting immediate pre-advances through dimensional mapping and the how to apply the practical techniques to confirm digitally gathered intelligence via confirmation route planning, proper advanced survey techniques will result in enhanced time management, movement safety, area surveillance, and threat management, all of which are vital to a successful protection detail.
This course focuses on applying modern technology to on-site situational evaluations to ensure that graduates are prepared for the most formidable challenges of Intelligence Risk Assessment.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
This course is taught directly from the perspective that arms-length protection is not necessarily the best protection available. High profile celebrities often want a sense of a security shield that a visible protection agent can provide. His or her comfort zone is greater when there is someone capable of warding off unwanted attention. In a corporate environment, the presence of protectors is usually invisible. CEOs often don't want the intrusion into their personal space, but their Board of Directors mandates protective services. Additionally, there are many instances where an overt protection signature could attract environmental threats that might otherwise not exist.
Field drills include practical team maneuvers and assignments that emphasize the role of Proactive, Predictive, and Behavioral Intelligence as the basis for protecting the Principal. A significant amount of attention is placed on having intelligence guide operations and for operating to inform intelligence. We call this the operations/intelligence cycle. Focused on Low-Profile Clients, this course will prepare students to develop and implement exhaustive protection plans in a corporate environment
The approach taken by our Low Signature Protective Operations is that protective invisibility is often more effective security than Arms-Length protection. The skill-sets are different, and the teaching philosophy focuses on the source of the threat rather than the principal.
LOW SIGNATURE PROTECTIVE OPERATIONS
Topics Covered: Protective Invisibility Advance Preparations Protective Hardware Protective Intelligence Communications Organization of Team Details Command Post Operations
PROTECTIVE INTELLIGENCE OPERATIONS SENIOR INSTRUCTORS: Enablement Advisors
ESI graduates are trained to create value in a myriad of ways. Organized under the umbrella of Principles of Guardianship, we espouse the belief true value is more than just protecting. ESI realizes that a successful career in the security industry also requires much more than the "shoot, move, and communicate" skills. We, therefore, provide instruction and place a heavy emphasis on equally important "soft skills" that underpin a lasting career as a Security Professional. Dedicated instructions time will be given to topics such as team dynamics, leadership, briefings (written and verbal), emotional intelligence, seeking, applying, and interviewing for employment/promotion, customer service, friction reduction, etc. Topics Covered: Protection of Property, Protection of Client & Guest, Client Representation, Maintenance, Staff Training & Staff Background Checks, Integration of Staff in Security, Liaison with Law Enforcement, Reports
The Protective Intelligence Operations portion of the program is a unique teaching platform designed to present the student with immersive, stress-induced, Team Building Mission with different "plug-ins" that we introduce to the program in order to give thematic coherence and a connection to the client. The client might equally be a corporate CEO, family member, or celebrity. The students are given a client itinerary and expected to determine a route destination, reasons for selection, and vulnerabilities. The protective detail is required to organize client itineraries and carry them out as a team. The teams are assigned to do advances for hotels, restaurants and the airport, produce a plan, give a presentation before ESI instructors, and then carry it out. These assignments are done in large and small protective details, on foot, or in mobile convoys in an urban environment.
BEHAVIORAL INTELLIGENCE & CLUES TO DANGEROUSNESS BOB DUGGAN
Behavioral Intelligence is a Predator Hunter program for executive protection agents. The search for clues to dangerousness in the crowd relies on a different set of skills than those of an Arms-Length Bodyguard. Beginning with how to assess normalcy, the student can identify breaks in the norm based on acute observation of crowd baseline behavior and individuals acting contrary to that baseline. The skills emphasized here are those that identify the Precursors to Assault and the different strategies of Preemptive Intervention. With a special emphasis on Human Behavior Profiling, this course will offer a comprehensive guide to anticipating dangerous people and situations and reacting in a proactive, intelligent manner. The student will learn what it feels like to 'Hunt the Predator.' Topics Covered: Grid Protective Operations Arms-Length Vs. Invisibility Assessing the Environment Identifying Normalcy (Baseline) Recognizing Stalking Behavior Proxemics & Iconography Body Language, Gestures, and Facial Expressions Two Protective Personality Types Protecting the Principal Vs. Hunting the Predator Intervention Strategies

ESTATE SECURITY Protection Specialists are sometimes called upon to not only protect a High Net Worth Individual, such as a CEO of a major corporation but also to protect his or her family and personal property as well. This can include mansions, luxury apartments, compounds, yachts, etc. Protecting individuals at home differs from protecting them in public or at a place of business, and this course illustrates the differences while training Executive Protection Specialists to do just that. Barry Wilson of Anlance Security leads the lecture in this video-based course which includes demonstrations and a "virtual field trip" to Bob Duggan's home to demonstrate on-site considerations.

Decisions made under duress have better outcomes when they have been made in advance; the human brain is too slow to react under stress. Our primary goal is to develop a security-driver mindset. Experiencing what losing control feels like makes you more likely to make the right decisions when the situation gets ugly. Meaning that once all the hard wiring has been set in your brain, you will be able to make decisions without thinking about the result of every choice; your mind will do it because it has done it before..

ACADEMIC STANDARDS ESI CERTIFICATES AND CREDENTIALS Executive Security International offers several Certificate and Credential Programs for security training. The student can select either a full-time resident classroom instruction format or the combined Online Streaming Education/16-Day Resident Training version. This permits students to enter into an independent study of correspondent courses that are completed online. From there, they attend 16-Day Resident Training in Executive Protection. The Residency Program is a classroom-practical training that is made up of four Modules. Including 28-Day Executive Protection, 21-Day PSD Protective Operations, 21-Day Corporate Crisis Management, and 21-Day Designated Defensive Marksmanship. The Modules can be taken sequentially or separately. ESI offers graduates of all State of Colorado Department of Private Occupational Schools approved programs a Certificate of Completion for completing either format of the Residency Modules or one of the combined Online Education/Resident Training programs. The ESI Identification Credential is not required by the State of Colorado Department of Private Occupational Schools. However, it is well-known and respected in the security industry as the standard for academic and practical security training in high-risk, executive protection, protective intelligence, and Corporate Security. STANDARDS OF ACADEMIC PROGRESS GRADE POINT AVERAGE GPA in Residency Program is derived by accumulative scores of open book lesson tests, special written team and individual assignments, and practical skills testing from each course and averaged for a grade in the Module. The GPA of the three Modules is averaged to attain the Certified Security Specialist Credential. The GPA for the combined online education and resident training is derived by combining online education (value 40%) and Resident Training (value 60%). If a student scores under 80% in any Resident Training class, a re-examination can be scheduled for a later date. Instructors grade students on performance and adherence to ESI standards of safety and conduct. Each student is given an evaluation of their test scores at the completion of the program. In return, students are asked to evaluate instructors and classes. GRADING SYSTEM All Residency Program courses are graded by an open book lesson/test method for each course within a Module of the program. Special written Team and Individual assignments are required in some courses. Students need only to pass each course within a Module with a Pass or Fail Grade, with failure calculated at 70% or less. Each course undertaken within each Module will be included in computing GPAs. A GPA minimum of 71% is required at the end of each Module to enter the second and third Modules. If the student scores 70% or less in any course, a re-examination can be scheduled for a later date. If the student drops below 60% in the program’s first half, he or she is terminated from the training. If the student achieves a cumulative GPA of 80% or better in each Module, the student is awarded an ESI Credential. A GPA of 90% is awarded an ESI Credential “With Honors.” Online Testing The student completes the online test and receives a grade on the test immediately upon submission. Certificate of Completion students need only to pass the single lesson in each course with a Passing Grade. The ESI Certificate of Completion is awarded after completing both online education and resident training. Every student is required to maintain a minimum composite online education grade score of 60% to qualify for a passing grade. If the student scores under 70% in any course, a re-examination can be scheduled for a later date. If the student drops below 60% in the program’s first half, he or she is terminated from the training. The Identification Credential contains 54 Lessons in the Program, and several courses require special assignments to be completed as part of the testing score. For students who pursue extra credit, an ESI transcript of their grade point average is mailed to the student upon completion of all lessons, tests, and special assignments. Resident Training Instructors administer either a written or practical test at the end of shooting, medical, protective detail operations, and stalking problem classes. Each student who scores a composite of 80% or better in the practical examinations and who satisfactorily completes the Residency Program or the online education and resident training will be given an ESI Identification Credential as a qualified PSD PROTECTIVE OPERATIONS SPECIALIST, SECURITY SPECIALIST, PROTECTION SPECIALIST, or CORPORATE CRISIS MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST. The grade for each course is found by counting the average of the lesson examination grades. Letter grades are converted to percentage points for the purpose of computing the grade point average for each semester. A lower score means that the student does not receive academic credit for the course. Granting credit for academic or work experience does not impact the stated Refund Policy. ESI is approved by the Colorado Office of Veterans Education and Training (COVET) for Veterans Education and Training Benefits. SPECIAL CREDIT FOR MILITARY VETERANS: Credit for Previous Education and Training Acceptance Policy. Executive Security International, Ltd. (ESI) evaluates previous education and training, and when applicable, credit is given. ALL transcripts MUST be submitted for review. RECORDS AND TRANSFER OF CREDIT Permanent records of grades and scores are maintained on school premises, and copies are available for a nominal fee. Credit given by other post-secondary institutions for training completed at Executive Security International is at the discretion of each institution, which has the privilege of extending or withholding transfer credit based on their educational standards and curriculum. The school does not guarantee the transfer of its credits to any other institution unless there is a written agreement with another institution. ONLINE EDUCATION-RESIDENT TRAINING The nine online education courses in the Executive Protection Program must be completed in nine months or eighteen months for the Security Specialist Program, after which time the student is not entitled to a refund. All Residency Programs are conducted entirely in classroom settings at ESI’s training facility in a 28/16-Day format. Whether the student completes a Core Program in combined online education and resident training or full-time Residency, the Certificates and Credentials are equivalent. Further, the applicant understands that tuition does not cover additional required books, food, lodging, or gun rental during Resident Training or transportation to the training sites. Residency classroom instruction requires attendance of 96% or 26 days of the 28-Day Executive Protection, PSD Protective Operations, and Corporate Crisis Management.
