October Principal's Message As we head into the second month of the school year, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our students, staff, parents/guardians, and community volunteers for helping create such a positive start to the year. Your support, involvement, and commitment to our school community are greatly appreciated. We were pleased to see such a strong turnout at our Open House and look forward to another productive and exciting month ahead. Interim reports will be sent home in mid-October. Please note that Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place in early December, following the release of Quarter 1 report cards. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's progress, we encourage you to reach out directly to their teachers. Likewise, staff will communicate with families if concerns arise. As a school community, we remain committed to fostering a culture of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity while building an empowered, growth-minded learning environment for all learners. It has been wonderful to see field trips, outdoor learning opportunities, and fall extracurricular programs underway, providing meaningful experiences that enrich student learning and strengthen connections within our school community. We also encourage parents and guardians to remain actively involved in their child's education. The partnership between home and school plays a critical role in supporting student success, well-being, and engagement. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help every student thrive. Here's to a great October! ~ Clint Dolgopol Principal

Honouring Truth and Reconciliation Day ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At Selkirk Secondary School, Orange Shirt Day is recognized as a solemn and important day of learning, reflection, and remembrance. Our school community comes together for a special assembly featuring guests from ʔaq̓am, who share stories, teachings, and traditional drumming and songs with our students and staff. Their voices and experiences help deepen our understanding of the history and lasting impacts of residential schools and the importance of Truth and Reconciliation. Following the assembly, students take part in Indigenous-focused learning activities led by their teachers. These activities provide opportunities to reflect, ask questions, and learn more about the significance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and our shared responsibility to listen, learn, and move forward with respect.

**Gr8 Day Outside: A Memorable First Adventure as Selkirk Students** On September 22nd and 23rd, all Grade 8 students embarked on the much-anticipated Gr 8 Day Out. They started with a small group walk that took them from Forest Crown to Camp Stone. Four questions were asked along their walk allowing them to reflect and make goals within their first year at Selkirk Secondary. Throughout the day, students participated in three engaging group activities, each thoughtfully designed around the principles of the Circle of Courage: •Belonging – fostering strong relationships and a sense of community •Generosity – practicing kindness and support for others •Independence – building confidence and self-reliance •Mastery – striving for personal excellence and learning through experience The activities encouraged teamwork, communication, and positive interaction, and our Grade 8s rose to the occasion with enthusiasm and maturity. It was inspiring to see students supporting one another, sharing ideas, and celebrating each other's strengths. The day was a resounding success, and every student should feel proud of the way they participated and contributed. Their energy, respect, and collaboration made this experience truly memorable. We look forward to more opportunities like this that help our students grow not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well.

Kimberley Indoor Tennis Courts Selkirk School has a great partnership with Kimberley Indoor Tennis Courts (KITC). We have exclusive and free access to the facility during school hours. The facility is important part of our Physical Education Program particularly during rainy days and freezing temperatures. The students can be seen playing dodgeball, tag, handball, jogging, sprints, ultimate frisbee, and tennis, etc. KITC is fully responsible for all capital and operating expenses with the facility. KITC is currently running their annual fundraising campaign. If you want more information about their campaign, please email them at Tenniskimberley@yahoo.com
Open House Our Open House was well attended, and it was great to see so many families and school community members join us. This year, due to the field repair, we hosted both the welcome assembly and food service outdoors, which created a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and allowed everyone to enjoy the beautiful weather. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a memorable event.
Terry Fox Run Our Terry Fox Run was another great success this year. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we are especially proud to have raised $2600.00 in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. Students enjoyed participating in the walk and celebrating their efforts with a hot dog lunch afterward. This year, we hosted the lunch service near the main entrance, which proved to be a convenient and enjoyable location for students and staff. We will continue to look for ways to make the day meaningful, engaging, and efficient while keeping the focus on Terry Fox's inspiring legacy and the spirit of giving back. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make the event such a success.

Rocky Mountain International Student Program
It has been a busy and exciting first month for our international students in Kimberley and at Selkirk Secondary School, filled with lots of activities and many memorable firsts. From seeing a real bear for the first time and experiencing Canadian camping with their host families, to settling into their new school and classes, joining sports teams, and music clubs, our students have embraced every opportunity to become part of the community. Along the way, they have also made new friends, some of whom joined them at our Pizza Buddy Lunch. In October, RMISP is looking forward to taking students to Kimberley’s Spirit Rock Climbing Center for an introduction into sports climbing and on a three-day Calgary and Banff trip packed with exciting activities, including a line dancing experience, a CFL game, sightseeing, and, of course, some shopping. RMISP is also seeking additional host families for both short-term and long-term placements. Hosting an international student is a rewarding opportunity to share your culture, learn about another, and build lifelong connections. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a host family, please visit theRMISP Homestay Information pageto learn more.
