Looking back on the past year, we are humbled by the collective effort and support that have propelled the YMCA of Northern Utah forward. It has been a year of growth and community collaboration, made possible by the dedication of our team, the guidance of our leaders, and the generosity of our supporters. With deep gratitude, we acknowledge the contributions of our community and donors, whose support has enabled us to extend our reach and impact across Utah. Together, we have expanded our programs to serve more individuals and families, fostering positive change in our communities. At the heart of our mission lies a commitment to providing our employees with meaningful and sustainable career opportunities. We recognize the invaluable role they play in realizing our vision and are inspired by their passion for serving others. As I continue my role as a board member and volunteer, I am honored to be part of an organization that embodies the values of community and service. Together, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to making a difference in the lives of those we serve. With appreciation, Andrea Barlow Chair, Board of Directors

Scarlett had always participated in Girl Scouts growing up, but unfortunately, aged out this past year. As she and her mom searched for something new for her to get involved with, they found the YMCA BOLD & GOLD trips that focus on outdoor leadership development for teens, and it was a perfect fit! Scarlett was so excited to spend a week of her summer in the Uintas that she rallied a friend to go as a buddy. Scarlett's mom mentioned, "When my daughter returned from her trip, I was surprised how deeply it impacted her and how high-quality the staff was! Scarlett told me all about how she felt she truly grew into herself over the week and discovered that she could do really hard things. She's been a mountain biker forever and already knew she could challenge herself. However, she said that backpacking through the woods with her group allowed her to unlock a deeper level of confidence and resilience." "Scarlett also loved her instructors, Zach and Jordyn, and raved about them. They made her and their group feel so comfortable emotionally that they all wanted to be vulnerable and connect personally! These days, our easy access to screens typically creates divisions between our kids, and that week knocked down those walls. Her instructors expertly crafted a brave and safe community in their group and guided them to explore the big questions in life as teens. Zach and Jordyn encouraged Scarlett's group to push each other to grow safely and with high intention. Learning to build empathy is essential in helping the next generation of humans grow. She will remember this trip for the rest of her life." This program impacted Scarlett and her friend so much that they can't wait to return as junior instructors to lead trips like this for other teens.

IVAN'S STORY
Our Y remains dedicated to promoting equity, inclusion, and belonging, working tirelessly to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. Studies show that children of color have disproportionately lower access to quality education and outdoor programs. While there is still work to be done, we are proud of our efforts in providing equitable access to Preschool and Afterschool programs for children of color. Together, we can build a more inclusive future.

This story is about Ivan, a Preschooler who faces the challenge of being bilingual. Ivan speaks and understands Spanish fluently, while his English skills are still developing. As a result, he sometimes struggles to understand instructions and fully engage in his learning. However, despite these difficulties, Ivan demonstrates great enthusiasm for learning and is always eager to participate in activities. Ivan often jumps into activities without fully understanding how he is expected to participate. To support him, teachers take the time to guide him through the instructions and occasionally provide explanations in Spanish to help him grasp the concepts. Ivan demonstrates empathy toward his peers. He quickly informs teachers when someone is hurt and offers his assistance. He pays close attention to what other students are doing and learns by observing their actions. He also maintains awareness of the classroom schedule. Ivan’s positive attitude and social skills enable him to get along well with his peers and actively engage in various center activities. Watching Ivan’s growth and learning journey has brought great joy to those around him. Despite the challenges he faces as a bilingual student, his determination, curiosity, and empathy shine through, making him an inspiration to others.

HEALTHY LIVING
“Thank you so much for putting this on. I had no idea that so much support was available to people in my situation. As a single mom, buying and cooking a healthy meal after a 10-hour work day, and then juggling homework and bedtime, it just hasn’t been a priority. I’ve seen those effects on myself and my kids. Today, I learned easy ways to keep us healthy and active that don’t put a strain on my already tight budget. Plus, it allowed me to get out of the house with my kids and do something together. We don’t really have the means or opportunity to do that.” - Courtney R.
