From the President
Dear DCC Friends, This winter’s special-edition “Super El Niño” is a gift. That’s likely a very unpopular thing to say in the company of our avid skiers, ice-fishers, snowmobilers and environmentalists, but I’ve never been one to hold back contempt for living in a frozen tundra nine months out of the year. Might the warmer weather mean an early start to our season of outdoor adventures here at Dellwood? Only Mother Nature knows. Nevertheless, it’s exciting to think about gearing up for golf, tennis, pickleball and swimming here at the club. In the spirit of warmth, fun and community, here are my Top 3 recommendations for making the most of your membership this spring at Dellwood: 1) Get involved in Women’s Golf or encourage someone you love to do so.“Reluctant” mildly describes how I felt about golf when we first joined Dellwood. Fortunately, early in our membership, I met some really gracious, kind women who encouraged me to try golf again. I found out that playing 9-holes on a Women’s Thursday Night is actually therapeutic. My game isn’t much better, but at least I can laugh about it now. The fun and camaraderie shared on summer Thursdays is something special. If you’re new or returning golfer, or just reluctant like I was, join us for the Women’s Golf Kick-Off Event Thursday, April 4 from 4-6 p.m. where we’ll preview both the women’s 9- and 18-hole seasons over cocktails. RSVP on ForeTees.
2) Attend the Egg Hunt or Easter Brunch events. There’s no better way to celebrate the renewal that Easter brings and elevate the joy around this season for all family members. Really. Like so many others at the club, I’m raising two kids, working full-time and trying to keep the house from burning down. I have no energy or desire to prepare a sugared ham, nor do I have the energy to attempt to bring my own mother’s stress level off the ceiling as she coordinates an egg hunt followed by the presentation of an extensive Easter dinner. Nah. Uh. Make your reservation. Bring grandma and grandpa. Have a mimosa. Call it a day. Life will be better for all.
3) Sign up for Couples Golf Events. Our stellar golf and events teams have already launched the calendar of Couples Golf Events for the upcoming season. This series of laid-back scramble-style events are the best way to meet other members and have a blast on the course. Next to Thursday Women’s Golf nights, these are my favorite part of being a DCC member. They’re filling fast, so get into FourTees and lock in your spots. Yours in bad golf, Brienna

New Club Management Software in 2024! Our team has spent the last few months preparing for a full shift from our current management and point-of-sale software to a new version from Minnesota-based Foretees, with a go-live date of April 1. What will this mean to you? We believe all good things! Most of you are already using our Club App, a Foretees product, as is our online tee time, Cabana and Tennis/Pickleball reservation systems. This change puts our entire system under one roof. You'll soon be able to access registrations for events more conveniently, and viewing of your Member statement will now be accessible through the Club App. Takeout orders will now be directed through the App as opposed to being forced to call them in (which we'll still accept but now you have the option!). We believe this will enhance the services we provide in the Pool area as well, with the ability to order directly from your phone and have it brought to your specific table. In this scenario, we streamline the process on the ordering AND delivery end, equating to faster service and a fresher product. As we approach April, we'll be in touch with you to guide you through any changes, as minimal as they may be, that you'll be seeing as we complete this upgrade.

Club Closure Monday, March 4 - Tuesday, March 12 All areas of the Club will be closed during this time! Please call the main line or shoot us an email if we can assist you with any needs throughout this window. The Grill will reopen at 4:00 on Wednesday, March 13 as we resume standard Winter Hours, which will change as we approach the opening of the Golf Course!
Tennis / Pickleball at Dellwood The nets are up and our reservation system is now OPEN on Foretees to make court reservations! With junior programs right around the corner, we'll continue to keep availability of courts updated on the App. The popularity of Pickleball continues to grow, and has us excited for our first FULL season of offering four premium courts right here at Dellwood. Any expansion of junior and adult Pickleball programs will be communicated through this Newsletter along with our Connection emails.
From Your GM...
Does anyone else have the golf bug right now? I'd imagine some of you have found a local muni to dust off the clubs and take in some natural Vitamin D this weekend. While it's tempting to pull the ropes around the greens, Eric shares some quality insight on the subject along with the risks and exposure to damage by opening up this time of year. Hang in there everybody.. I feel like we are inching our way to a much earlier than average open this season! For now, take advantage of the world's best technology in The Vault to get dialed in for the upcoming year! Our annual Club Closure is set to begin next week, running from Monday, March 4 - Tuesday, March 12. We will be resume our Winter Hours on Wednesday, March 13. Any changes to operating hours will be communicated, and will be in-line with the opening of the golf course. This year we will be conducting much of the same spring cleaning by shampooing carpets, paint and baseboard touch-ups, and deep service-area cleaning, but will also be addressing some updates in our Fitness Center. Unlike in years past, our Fitness Center will be CLOSED during this Closure, as we will be using this time to improve this space for our Members. Hopefully you'll find some good modifications to your workouts and utilize the outdoors, and we'll be ready to welcome you back when the Club reopens on March 13.

Winter is flying by! Or lack of winter, shall I say? Can’t believe the weather we’ve been having but I, like I’m sure most of you, are glad to not be shoveling my driveway every week. If you missed it, we even opened our driving range a few weeks ago when it got to 50 degrees – record breaking! Even warmer weather is on the horizon and that means two of the best things – golf (obviously) and…new cocktail menu!! This spring we will be releasing our new cocktail and wine menu, taking us through the summer months. Herman, James, and I spend a great deal of time planning and experimenting with different seasonal ingredients, as well as taking into account the newest trends in the wine and spirit world to bring you a specially curated list, sure to make your mouth water. When we plan out a new list, we are grateful to have the opportunity to sometimes meet directly with suppliers, getting first dibs on a great selection of products. This past week we had the pleasure of meeting with Moët Hennessy, which houses many recognizable brands such as Moët & Chandon, Krug, Veuve Clicquot, Hennessy, Joseph Phelps, and Belvedere. They showed us a great selection of champagnes and even a fun twist on a modern cocktail – so stay tuned for some new additions to the menu coming in April. As always, we look forward to welcoming more members back to the club as the weather gets warmer, so see you soon! Cheers!

Spring is definitely in the air.The weather has been warm all winter but as we head into March it is trending toward a possible early opening. I thought I would lay out some of what we are looking to have happen both weather wise and preparations in order to open. Obviously we need the course to be snow free but most importantly we need the frost to come out of the ground and temperatures to stay consistently above freezing. Right now we have very little, if any, frost in the taller grass. It is absolutely critical that the frost comes out of the greens and the ground firms up before we allow play to begin.Without a stable sublayer we risk damaging roots and cause compacting of the soil. Once things thaw and playing surfaces warm and begin to grow we can do our first mowing. Other than a few areas where we have done tree removals the golf course is very clean overall, so we don’t anticipate any delay in opening due to cleanup. As we head into a new season we have a goal of improving firmness and smoothness on our greens. A common goal amongst Clubs needless to say, but different variables dictate which methods will prove to be successful at each Club. In the past we have always set out to incorporate topdressing into our yearly calendar but between weather and events it often gets delayed or bumped altogether. Additionally, the sand is very abrasive to the reels of the mowers and dulls the blades, effecting the quality of cut. In an effort to address these issues, we will begin a weekly topdressing schedule on Monday's, consisting of dust-like applications. The process begins with a fresh mow of the surface, then the topdress application, followed by a roll to smooth the surface. The greens will get another roll the following morning, to be resumed by our regular mowing and rolling schedule by Wednesday and through the week. We will stick to this schedule moving forward and monitor green speed and member feedback and will adjust if necessary. We're excited to initiate this process on the belief it will enhance our Member experience at the Club. We'll see you on the course soon!

New Men's League! We are excited to announce a 9-Hole Men’s League that begins Wednesday, May 8th. The league takes place on Wednesday's, and consists of a 10-week season with the Finals on August 14th. Register a 6-man squad or sign up as an individual or partial team and we will round you out to 6. Busy summer schedule? Our format supports that! Whether all team members play or not, we take your best three scores using a Modified Stableford points system, using all net scoring. There will be weekly payouts for top three individuals and top three teams, as well as payouts for the top 4 teams that advance to the Finals in August. The cost for the league is $600 per team ($100 per player if a full 6-person team), 100% of which is paid back out. Wednesday tee sheets will display a 12:00-6:00 time block for League Play. Our primary goal is to provide a fun, yet casually competitive environment that supports our Club's foundation of being open and inviting. We believe the 9-hole format will be accomodating to those that have a difficult time carving out time to play a full 18, although we anticipate most to still play a full round. The form to sign up is on the Club App, but can also be accessed HERE.
