On October 11th, the founder of the YMCA, George Williams, would have turned 203! He led the founding of the YMCA in London at age 22 in 1844, and since then the Y has counted on young people to bring new ideas and energy to our organization, including here in Utah. Here are some fun facts about the YMCA of Northern Utah: The YMCA opened in Salt Lake City in 1893- over 125 years ago! YMCA Camp Roger opens in 1948. In 1968, a new full YMCA facility is opened in Salt Lake City (later closed in 1991). In 2010 and 2014, the YMCA opens Community Family Centers in Taylorsville and Ogden to expand our reach in youth programs! As you can see, the YMCA has a rich history right here in Utah!
