Ongoing Opportunities AM Fitness Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:45-6:30am Online Instr: Cassie McKenzie FEE: $45/10-class punch card (good for 3 months) or $5/class This bootcamp-style class includes circuit training and Tabata workouts using body weight and dumbbells. Each class will include a mix of cardio, strength training, and core exercises. All exercises can be modified from high to low intensity to accommodate all fitness levels. Classes will end with a 5-minute ab/core workout. You will need an exercise mat, light free weights, and a water bottle. A Google Meet link will be sent after registration is complete. A class recording will be available if you are unable to attend the live class. Plans will be shared to ensure food remains affordable and accessible, to enhance the physical store, and to strengthen our local economy. Elderberry Gummies for Immunity Thursday - Feb. 5 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Sheila Beecroft FEE: $15 Support your immune system with homemade elderberry gummies! Learn how to make elderberry syrup (for a fraction of the store-bought cost) and how to turn it into your own nutrient-packed gummies using natural ingredients. You will take home a 15-cavity silicone tray with gummies, along with the recipe instructions. Intro to Solar Energy Monday - Feb. 9 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Kristopher Schmid FEE: $5/household Solar electricity is quiet, clean, and efficient. It reduces our impact on the environment and can slow global climate change. In addition, solar electric systems allow the production of electricity to be closer to where it is consumed, thereby reducing losses associated with transmitting electricity from a central power plant over long distances via power lines. Learn the basics of solar electric (photovoltaic, PV) systems, including: solar cell/solar panel composition, system types, system sizing, mounting locations, costs, rebates/incentives, and financial analyses. Weather permitting, we will observe the solar panel in Frederic High School’s backyard.
Android Phone Basics Tuesday - Feb. 10 at 1pm Frederic Sr. Community Center Instr: Mike Henderson FEE: $10 Gain a better understanding of your Android phone. We will cover keyboard functions, frequently used apps, managing contacts, notifications, email, and text messaging. The information presented will be general and applicable to most Android devices, rather than focusing on a specific phone model or service provider. Please note that this class is not intended for troubleshooting existing issues; it aims to help you navigate your phone more easily. CPR/AED Certification Tuesday - Feb. 10 from 6-8:15pm Frederic HS Instr: Deb Miller FEE: $42 Breathing or not breathing - this is all you need to know to determine how to care for your unconscious victim. This CPR class is easy to learn and remember! You will learn how to care for an unresponsive person and provide life-saving CPR if necessary. Other skills taught include helping a choking victim and recognizing various problems. You will gain confidence in your life-saving skills. A 2-year certification in Basic Adult/Child/Infant CPR and AED will be provided. This is a community-level class (not BLS-certified) with no written test. iPhone Basics Tuesday - Feb. 17 at 1pm Frederic Sr. Community Center Instr: Mike Henderson FEE: $10 Gain a better understanding of your iPhone. This hands-on lab will involve essential maintenance, repairs, restoration, and customization instruction while you work on your own bike. Chinese Cooking Tuesday - Feb. 24 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Peter Kwong FEE: $30 Join us for another culinary adventure in Chinese cuisine. Start with Wonton Soup. In Chinese, Won means 'clouds', and Ton means 'swallow'. Imagine swallowing the clouds as you eat the soup - silky, smooth, light, and delicious. If you enjoy Sweet & Sour Chicken, you will love Lemon Chicken - a different flavor for your taste buds. You will be amazed by Tangerine Beef - a tasty and easy-to-make dish. Painting the WI Summer Landscape in Watercolor Tuesday - Mar. 3 from 6-9pm Frederic Elementary Instr: Paul Oman, local artist FEE: $35 (bring your supplies)/$50 (supplies provided) Join Paul as he guides you through a step-by-step painting experience. You will learn how to handle the medium of watercolor while you paint a sky, trees, light, and shadows on 11”x15” paper. The goal of this workshop is for you to bring a completed painting home. ATV Safety M/Tu/Th - Apr. 20, 21 & 23 from 5:30-8:30pm Frederic HS Instr: Jeffrey Hahn FEE: $10 If you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, you must complete an ATV safety certification course to operate an ATV on Wisconsin public trails and areas. DNR Conservation Wardens recommend that all ATV operators complete a safety course. Students should dress for the outdoors for approximately 15 minutes during the first class. Pre-registration is required by 4/16 at gowild.wi.gov. $10 (cash) will be collected at the 1st class. Gandy Dancer State Trail Clean-up Week of Apr. 20 Contact Community Ed to learn how you can help clean up Frederic's sections of the trail. Knitting for Beginners with Konnie 2 Thursdays – Apr. 23 & 30 from 6-8pm Frederic HS Instr: Konnie Didlo FEE: $28 Learn how to knit! This class is for beginners and those looking to refresh their knitting skills. You will learn knit and purl stitches, how to cast on and bind off, how to read patterns, and basic knitting techniques. Yarn, needles, and instructions will be provided to get you started on your knitting journey. Optional ‘How to Knit’ books will be available to purchase for $10. All Occasion Cards Tuesday - Apr. 28 from 6-9pm Frederic HS Instr: Tammy Henderson FEE: $28 Mother's Day and Father's Day are approaching, along with summer weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and funerals. It’s time to restock your card collection! Join us to create 10 cards (5 different designs) with matching envelopes for various occasions. Mosaic Stepping Stone Tuesday - May 5 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Carissa Greschner FEE: $46 In this workshop, you will create a beautiful outdoor garden stepping stone using mosaic tiles. Choose from a variety of tiles to design a unique creation. The stepping stone measures 12” square. All materials will be provided. Intro to Horses/Trail Riding Tuesday - May 12 at 6pm Frontier Stables Instr: Rachael Trittelwitz FEE: $20/household Learn about trail riding at Frontier Stables. Meet the horses and learn how to approach, groom, saddle, and bridle them. Discover fun facts about their diet, sleep patterns, and the differences between trail riding (experiencing nature quietly and beautifully) and other types of riding. Safety during trail riding will also be covered. Finally, you will have the opportunity to practice getting on and off a horse and to take a ride in the arena. Bring Back the Hula Hoop! Thursday - May 14 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Anne Miller FEE: $10 Hula hooping is a fun and engaging way to stay active, making it suitable for all ages. Create your own hula hoop and learn some exciting tricks! With a little practice and a willingness to learn, you can enjoy the core-strengthening benefits that hula hooping provides. Unlike traditional children's hoops, which tend to be lightweight and can be challenging for adults, your custom creation will have water added inside to help it glide smoothly. Have fun exploring this playful form of exercise! For all ages! Dementia Live Wednesday - May 20 from 1-2:30pm Frederic Sr. Community Center Instr: Mackenzie Gustafson FREE Dementia Live is a simulation of what it is like to have dementia for those who do not have dementia. In this class, participants wear glasses, headphones, and gloves to impair their senses, then complete 5 small tasks. After the simulation, a group discussion will be held to share experiences. National Trails Day Hike Saturday - June 6 at 1pm Trade River Trailhead - Iceage Trail FREE Explore the Trade River Segment on this 4-mile hike from 150th St. (2 miles south of the village of Frederic) to 280th Ave (Trailhead on the north end of Straight Lake Park). See exposed bedrock and walk across the rock bridge, climb Big Basalt Erratic (the glacier left behind), and walk through wetlands and native prairie. This is a beginner-level hike. Meet at the parking lot on 150th St. Shuttles will be provided. Dress for the weather and insects. The hike will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.

If you love to reuse and repurpose, join us for an introduction to braided rugs! You'll have the opportunity to create a trivet or a small table runner while learning the basics of this craft. With these skills, you can craft beautiful braided rugs and put those fabric scraps to excellent use! Mandala Art - Snack Jar Thursday - Mar. 19 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Julia Kottarathil FEE: $32 Join us for a fun and creative journey into the world of Dot Mandala Art! No artistic or painting experience is necessary. Learn essential techniques and pick up valuable tips and tricks as you create a beautiful pattern on a 3.5” wooden canister lid. Take home a one-of-a-kind glass snack canister (3.5-4” tall with an optional side sticker) and the skills to design your own mandalas on various surfaces. Ages 10+ Thai Cooking Tuesday - Mar. 24 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Lek Kremer FEE: $28 In this class, Lek will share a delightful Thai street food classic! Her nephew always asks for the deliciously spicy Pad Krapao, a stir-fry with basil. The sweet and tangy sauce in this dish elevates any meat to new heights! It is served over steamed rice and topped with a fried egg. Additionally, learn how to prepare pork and cabbage spring rolls, which will surely become your new favorite appetizer! They are simple to make and enjoyable to eat! Mosaic Bird Bath Tuesday - Apr. 7 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Carissa Greschner FEE: $56 In this workshop, you will create a Mosaic Table Top Bird/Insect Bath. Get as creative as you like! You will be guided from beginning to end, ensuring you complete your beautiful, unique piece. All tools and materials will be provided. Project is 12" in diameter. Machine-Sewn Hot Pads Thursday - Apr. 9 at 6pm Frederic HS Instr: Anne Burford FEE: $16 Learn how to turn printed fabric into a beautiful set of hot pads! In this hands-on sewing class, you will explore the basics of machine stitching, layering heat-resistant materials, and constructing durable kitchen hot pads. This class is perfect for near beginners (basic sewing machine skills are suggested) as well as experienced sewists looking for a fun, quick project. All materials and sewing machines will be provided. Barn Quilts Saturday - Apr. 11 from 8am-4pm Frederic Elementary Instr: Mike & Mary Kolstad FEE: 2’x2’ = $75 / 4’x4’ = $115 Barn Quilts have been around for about 100 years. Just as fabric quilts have their unique history, so do barn quilts. A barn quilt is a large piece of wood that is painted to resemble a quilt block and is often displayed on the exterior of a barn, house, garage, or other building. Enjoy a fun-filled day of painting your unique 2’x2’ or 4’x4’ barn quilt. Plan to tape, paint, dry, laugh & admire your way through the day! All supplies, boards, and instructions will be provided. Spring Mushrooms Monday - April 13 (Frederic HS) instruction Tuesday - April 14 (Straight Lake Park) foraging Instr: Tavis Lynch FEE: $25 Join us to learn how to identify edible mushrooms and plants that emerge in early spring! We will focus on the basics of mushroom identification, specifically the varieties that appear during this season. Additionally, we will explore the world of edible spring plants, learning how to recognize them and how to cook what we forage.
