ELEVATING YOUTH CAMPAIGN CABINET MEETING

LETTER FROM THE CAMPAIGN CABINET CHAIR
In April, the Elevating Youth Campaign Cabinet met for the first time in person. This stellar group of local community leaders represent highly motivated individuals hand selected to strategize and thoughtfully develop a campaign for YMCA of Northern Utah. The Elevating Youth Campaign aims to be the vehicle for positive change across Northern Utah. Their goal is to raise $4-$5 million to elevate all aspects of the YMCA (programs and physical footprint in the community). Through the leadership of Cabinet Chair Chase Dreyfous, the cabinet's next steps are focused on building a wider network of community support, increasing external presence through strategic marketing, and ultimately improving the lives of Utah youth and families through increasing access to YMCA programs and facilities. As Chase often says, "When we elevate kids, the whole community rises together." We are excited to share more information soon on a Spring 2027 Kick-Off Event that will elevate kids, the YMCA, and Utah.

In 2019, Utah launched the Every Kid Outdoors initiative to promote outdoor recreation for active and nature-filled childhood experiences. The Utah Children’s Outdoor Recreation and Education Grant (UCORE), provided by Utah's Division of Outdoor Recreation, enhances this initiative and has supported our BOLD & GOLD Excursion Program since 2024. This grant complements the Every Kid Outdoors initiative to provide resources, tools, and opportunities to connect youth to nature. Our Excursion Programs do just that—we work to expand access to outdoor learning for youth in Utah. This summer, we are able to improve our Excursion Programs with the support of UCORE and give more kids and teens the opportunity to step outside and enjoy the beautiful, natural environment of the Wasatch Mountains. Together, we inspire a lifelong passion for the outdoors in Utah youth.

In 2025 and 2026, YMCA of Northern Utah had the privilege of working with The Kahlert Foundation. The YMCA has joined dozens of organizations across the country from Maryland to Utah in our shared vision of supporting individuals and strengthening communities. The foundation’s donation has touched all our programs and supported hundreds of kids and teens in staying safe after school, learning winter sports, starting preschool, and facing and overcoming new challenges during the summer. One family shared their gratitude for the opportunity to attend Camp Roger by writing, “Both of my kids loved their counselors the most. Arts and crafts were a hit, and the games. I cannot thank them [those who assist with financial aid] enough. My kids have been missing out on so much because of my extended unemployment and it meant the world that they were able to go.” The Kahlert Foundation has made this, and many similar experiences, possible. The YMCA is grateful to have joined their alliance of nonprofit organizations across the country and looks forward to a bright future for youth and families across Northern Utah.

RELATIONSHIPS THAT LAST
BANK OF UTAH, CORPORATE OFFICE
Beginnings are rarely defined by a single moment. They take shape over time through values, relationships, and leadership. Frank M. Browning, founding president of Bank of Utah, embodied that vision. As a family-owned institution, the bank has always had the freedom to prioritize long-term community impact over short-term gain. Since 1952, Bank of Utah has remained deeply rooted in local communities, investing in opportunities that strengthen Utah families. In a time when banking felt distant and transactional, Browning believed people should feel seen and valued. His legacy reminds us that strong communities are not built by systems alone but by individuals who choose to show up and invest in others. In a recent interview, Scott Parkinson, retired vice president of Bank of Utah, shared, “The Bank of Utah became involved with the important work of the YMCA about two decades ago... Through the process, I realized how important the work of the Y is. Our youth need help, and it takes many organizations to serve all the youth in our community.” What makes this partnership stand out is the level of leadership Bank of Utah brings to the YMCA, not just as a donor but as an active participant in the mission. That long-standing connection continues today. As Brady Fosmark, executive vice president and chief lending officer, reflected, “For more than 25 years, Bank of Utah has been proud to support the YMCA and the vital role it plays in strengthening families and developing youth in our communities.” Bank of Utah professionals have consistently served on YMCA of Northern Utah’s Board of Directors and in campaign leadership roles. They help guide strategy, expand community relationships, and support fundraising efforts. Today, that leadership includes individuals such as Dereck Jacobs, who serves as board treasurer, and Brady Fosmark, who contributes through both his executive role at the bank and his service on the Elevating Youth Campaign Cabinet. Together, they help open doors and strengthen partnerships that advance the YMCA’s long-term vision for youth development. This year, Bank of Utah supported the YMCA’s Gifts of Experiences initiative, with Cherie Hanson leading the charge on behalf of the bank, helping expand access to preschool, afterschool care, and summer camp for local families. This effort, alongside other community partners, reflects more than participation; it demonstrates a sustained commitment to investing time, expertise, and resources in strengthening the community. This partnership continues to grow through support for YMCA Camp Roger and broader youth opportunities, including facility improvements and programming that create spaces where children can belong and reach their potential. A shared belief in strengthening communities continues to guide the partnership today. It is a relationship built not on a single moment but on years of showing up together.

Ashley Ballew is the Director of Day Camps, overseeing summer programming across several locations in Northern Utah, including Ogden, Layton, Salt Lake City, and Park City. She holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Ecology from the University of Georgia and brings a strong foundation in education, environmental science, and youth engagement to her role. Before stepping into this position, Ashley ran the YMCA’s Afterschool Programs (Weber Region) for over two years. During that time, she helped build an incredible team and developed programs that offer students a safe place to learn, grow, and have fun. Ashley is passionate about creating inclusive, engaging environments where youth can explore new experiences and build lasting friendships. YMCA Summer Day Camps help reduce summer learning loss in between school years and ensure that kids can be kids through safe and fun summer field trips, activities, and personal growth. SUMMER DAY CAMP AT THE YMCA
2025 SUMMER DAY CAMP FIELD TRIPS AND CAMPER EXPERIENCES
Summer at the YMCA is all about fun, friendship, and belonging. YMCA Summer Day Camps make that possible for kids across the Wasatch Front, including Park City, Salt Lake City, and Ogden. Each summer, we offer days filled with games, educational activities to help reduce summer learning loss, camp songs, swimming, field trips, creativity, and new friendships. All YMCA Summer Day Camp families are invited to our ultimate Summer Splash Bash on August 7th, 2026, featuring pool time, snacks, games, prizes, giveaways, and our fan‑favorite duck race in the lazy river. Top ducks win prizes, but every duck wins by supporting YMCA kids and families! This year, we will be raising funds to help elevate access to YMCA Summer Day Camp for Utah youth and kids. Scan the QR code or buy a duck at camper check-out to donate and join the fun. All donations already made toward Summer Day Camp 2026 have earned ducks. Additionally, we will be encouraging literacy development through a summer reading log initiative. Varex Imaging, a new community partner to the YMCA, has supplied bicycles, which will be raffled off to campers who enter with completed reading logs! Many thanks to Varex Imaging for their support. We hope to see you and your family at the Summer Splash Bash!

Katie Allred cultivates a deep love of service, community, and the outdoors in her role as Major Gifts Director at YMCA of Northern Utah. With more than a decade of professional experience in the nonprofit sector, Katie is passionate about connecting generous supporters to YMCA programs that strengthen kids, families, and communities. As a nonprofit development leader, she has overseen multimillion‑dollar fundraising efforts, managed diverse grant portfolios, and helped programs grow sustainably while staying grounded in their mission. Katie graduated from Brigham Young University with a minor in business, which helps her pair heart‑led fundraising with thoughtful stewardship and sound financial care. Katie's fundraising work began early; her very first major fundraising effort was participating in the Susan G. Komen 3‑Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer—an experience that sparked a lifelong commitment to philanthropy. Before joining the YMCA, Katie worked with a variety of mission‑driven organizations, including The National Park Service, Splore, and wilderness therapy programs. Additionally, her volunteer experience has informed a life of being a good neighbor in the communities she calls home. This includes volunteering with Deaf and hard of hearing children at Courage Reins Equestrian Ranch, caring for rescued animals at the Marine Mammal Center, and mentoring girls at Treasure Mountain Girls Camp. Outside of work, Katie thrives in the outdoors. She has descended more than 100 slot canyons, summited Mount Rainier, kayaked between islands in Fiji, and even dived the Great Barrier Reef. She and her husband, Josh, stay busy raising their two kiddos, Sierra and Tommy, alongside their adventure‑loving dog, Indiana Bones. Katie is grateful to partner with YMCA donors whose generosity makes meaningful impact possible every day.
