COMMUNITY
LIVE COMEDY
Welcome to the 2026 season at Zeitgeist Center for Arts and Community! As you turn these pages, you’ll see fun events, powerful conversations, and recipes for strengthening community. It will look like movies, plays, musicals, classes, live music, great food, street parties, art shows, issue discussions, fundraisers, and a whole lot more. But our vision doesn't stop there. Zeitgeist is more than the sum of our parts. A community of belonging is a place where stories of all kinds are being told in all sorts of ways. It’s a place where everyone has a voice shaping the character of who we are, and who we become. As you flip through these pages, you’ll see titles, artists, or ideas that are new. That’s great! Let’s be curious, let’s learn about each other, let’s see things in new ways. You might notice that our work doesn’t stop at the doors of our building. You might ask why we’re helping to bring creative expression and connectivity to the streets throughout our neighborhood, or teaching people how to share their stories across NE MN. It’s because we exist to weave creativity and inclusivity into the fabric of our community. So as you browse this guide, have fun. Find the events that look interesting, funny, compelling, or fresh. Circle them, and know that when you join us at Zeitgeist, you’re supporting artists, community members, and a nonprofit organization dedicated to telling everyone’s stories, and connecting us in ways that strengthen a community of shared belonging. Hope to see you soon,

URINETOWN
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!
AMERICAN SON
THANK YOU TO OUR THEATER SPONSORS
Beautiful Thing is a 1993 play by Jonathan Harvey about two teenage boys, Jamie and Ste, who live on a working-class London housing estate and fall in love. The story follows their blossoming romance against the backdrop of their challenging home lives, including Jamie’s single mother, Sandra, and Ste’s abusive father and brother. It’s a tender, funny, and heartwarming coming-of-age story that explores friendship, sexuality, and finding joy.
Storytelling
2026 Theater Season
THEATER
A charming devil arrives in the quiet village of Edmonton to bargain for the souls of its residents in exchange for their darkest wishes. Elizabeth should be his easiest target, having been labeled a “witch” and cast out by the town, but her soul is not so readily bought. An inventive retelling of a Jacobean drama, this sharp, subversive fable debates how much our souls are worth when hope is hard to come by.
WITCH
An estranged biracial couple must confront their feelings about race and bias after their son is detained by the local police following a traffic stop incident. Their disparate histories and backgrounds inform their assumptions as they try to find out what happened to their son.

It wouldn’t be Zeitgeist work without including creative or cultural expression, telling stories, or using art to bring people together. We partnered with the Duluth Transit Authority and local artists to create bus shelter art that adds life and vibrancy to the street-scape. We will continue to bring arts and cultural assets to 6th Ave E and throughout our community in the coming years.
Our Work
THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY SPONSORS
Along 6th Ave E, for example, Zeitgeist heard for years from neighbors that the street was dangerous, scary, and clearly prioritized commuters moving through the neighborhood over local residents. We worked to amplify those stories, and partnered with the city to redesign a street that’s safer to cross for families, elders, and others, easier to access mass transit, and still moves commuters through efficiently.
Zeitgeist has thousands of conversations each year with neighbors, artists, civic leaders, and others. We try to understand local needs and vision, empower people to tell their stories, and shape public investments in creative, meaningful, and long-term ways.
COMMUNITY PLACEMAKING
We work with neighbors to co-create public places in ways that make their life better, more creative, and reflect their stories and ideas. What does that mean? Check out the examples on the next page.
