Schedule of Events - Elevator U Conference - 2025
As current President of Elevator U, I would like to take just a few moments of your time to introduce our association and the benefits it provides to professionals such as yourself. As we enter a new year, it’s always good to focus on the things we can do better, for ourselves and for those we serve. Elevator U is an association that recognizes the need for colleges, universities, government agencies and public institutions to have an organized vehicle to promote excellence in design, construction and maintenance for all forms of vertical transportation. The primary vehicle for filling this need is education and networking. As technologies, materials and business practices continually change, we need to ensure we have an organization to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise to properly build and maintain vertical transportation that is safe, durable and efficient. As a member of Elevator U, you will not only garner valuable business relationships, great friendships and the knowledge needed to keep you up-to-date in our industry; but great benefits as well. We look forward to meeting you, sharing ideas, having a lot of fun and making our facilities more efficient and safe. With Regards, Eddie Morris - EU President Elevator Program Manager | University of Virginia

Leveraging his extensive experience, he generated over $1 million in opportunities and successfully closed more than $500,000 in sales within his first six months. Before coming to VDA, he served as South and West Region Manager for Fujitec America, Inc., where he was responsible for all business lines in Texas, California, and Washington. Mr. Broom began his career in the elevator industry in 1999 with Dover Elevator as a Sales Representative in the Dallas office, growing the service and repair business by building strong business relationships with new and existing customers. He worked with customers and contractors through the transition as Dover was acquired by ThyssenKrupp. He later moved to NW Arkansas to open a satellite office for the Tulsa branch to help with the growth due to Walmart requiring vendors to have local representation. He later moved back to Dallas to work in the Key Account program, helping with service sales in the CBD markets of Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, and Denver. 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Code Compliant Maintenance Program - Presented by: John Koshak & Daren Lehman Approved: 1 hr CET/CAT & .1 CEU QEI - NAEC Presentation Summary Many of the major service providers offered a “generic” MCP not necessarily tailored to our vintage, usage and environments for our elevators. It was also discovered that the prescribed maintenance from provider to provider varied on tasks and frequency and some were based on call back maintenance. Universities want to ensure riders are safe, elevators are code compliant to the intent of code and ensure the most beneficial use of their equipment. Elevators in different buildings and environments receive different use and abuse which would call for a different frequency than other buildings. Service providers tend to provide a 1 size fits all approach when it comes to MCP's. Service providers also offer different levels of service based on budgets. This makes it challenging to assess the best responsive bids. The solution can be a 3rd party survey, and plans written for each unit based on the code required for design, vintage, usage and environmental conditions. Bio - John Koshak entered the elevator industry in 1980 and has since held roles from adjuster to executive, including VP of Technical Support at Adams Elevator and Director of Codes & Standards at Thyssenkrupp. He is the inventor of the LifeJacket® safety device and founder of Elevator Safety Solutions, LLC and eMCP, LLC — a company providing code-compliant Maintenance Control Programs. A published author with multiple U.S. and international patents, John has written two books, developed CET curriculum, and contributed over 40 technical articles to Elevator World. He serves on ASME A17 and several ANSI, CSA, and UL committees, and is a NAESA-certified inspector and code instructor. His leadership includes past roles as IAEC President and Chairman of both the NAEC Codes Committee and Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation.
