Summer has always felt different to me. Even as adults, there is something about these longer days that gently reminds us to slow our pace, spend a little more time outdoors, reconnect with people we love, and perhaps reconnect with ourselves as well. This year, I'm taking that invitation to heart. Many of you know that after my husband, Don, was seriously injured in a car accident in April, 2026, I stepped away from much of my work for six months while caring for him. Thanks to the incredible women in this community and so many others who stepped in to help, everything continued beautifully. Your kindness, generosity, and love reminded me once again of the power of community. Don has recovered remarkably well, and for that I am deeply grateful. However, all these months later, I can’t continue to ignore how much I neglected my own need for rest and renewal. So, for the month of July, I'm doing something I encourage all of you to consider from time to time. I'm stepping back. I'm creating space to breathe, reflect, restore, and simply be. Summer offers each of us that opportunity. We don't always need a dramatic life change to begin again. Sometimes growth comes from sitting quietly with a journal, taking a walk without a destination, saying yes to an afternoon nap, nourishing our bodies with good food, deepening our spiritual practices, or making time for conversations that truly matter. Whatever renewal looks like for you, I hope you'll give yourself permission to embrace it. Before you move on to the next page, please mark your calendar for two very special celebrations as we honor the 26th anniversary of the On Purpose Woman Global Community, one on Zoom and one at my home. I'd love to celebrate with you, reconnect, and look ahead to all that's possible together. You'll find all the details on Page 2. Thank you for being part of this remarkable community. I look forward to seeing you in August, refreshed, inspired, and ready for the next chapter. Be Well, Love Big, Spread Joy, Shine Your Light, and Be Gentle With Yourself. With gratitude,
When we understand that we are living multi-dimensional lives even when we are focused solely on our 3D existence, we start to be the empowered human being that we were always meant to be. Living on autopilot gives away our power to unconscious programming that has been working on us for our whole lives. ‘Autopilot’ is the opposite of living a conscious life. In this series of articles, we’re looking at each of the dimensions of US. In Part 1 (March-April issue), we studied the Physical Body. In Part 2 (May-June issue), we examined the Emotional Body. And in this article, Part 3, we explore the Mental Body, where our thoughts live. Check out past issues in the archive section of the magazine. HERE You have been storing up thoughts your whole life. Some have come from outside you, and some you came up with on your own. You saved them in your unconscious mind to use at a later date. Now many of those thoughts are running like the operating system of your life. When we take the time to examine our thoughts with the conscious mind, we start to realize that we might have been mistaken in embracing those thoughts, or they might no longer be relevant. I THINK I am a certain age. The calendar shows that I have lived a certain number of years. But what about the beliefs behind that number? (We’ll study Beliefs in the next article in the series.) Numbers are just numbers. Thinking about numbers connects them to beliefs, and all of this is running under the radar in our unconscious mind. I recently looked at a picture of my Mom, who passed away many years ago when she was my age. She had beautiful dark hair. People often seem surprised that I don’t color my dark hair because there is an expectation that at this age, my hair should be grey. I don’t think so! But this could go the other way. “Thoughts create your reality.” “Think and Grow Rich” “Thoughts are Things.” Have you heard any of these sayings? My clients get tired of hearing me say, ‘You can stop thinking what you’re thinking. Don’t believe everything you think!” Remember, we’re talking about living a conscious life here. In your body, the thoughts that are alive are neural pathways that get reinforced every time you think that thought. Changing your thoughts weakens those neural pathways in your brain until they dissolve. You CAN create new neural pathways when you think new thoughts. Wow! You are in charge of the thoughts you think! Doesn’t that feel empowering? Examining the thoughts that have created your Mental Body can be scary at first because it seems to challenge us to re-examine everything. AND it also means we have the power to make dramatic changes by changing what/how we think. Remember The Little Engine That Could? “I think I can! I think I can!” And it could! Henry Ford’s famous quote tells the same story: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t --- you’re right!” There is great power in your thoughts! So, what are you thinking about yourself today? Do you think you can or do you think you can’t? Where did that thought come from? This is where we empower ourselves to create the neural pathways in our brains that we want our thoughts to travel down. Some thoughts get planted from outside us, and we, sometimes unconsciously, embrace those thoughts as our own. We forget that we don’t have to keep thinking the thoughts we used to think, even as they come up over and over again. “I think I can!” What if that is the thought we choose to think as we face every task today? Every problem-solving moment? Every hard conversation we have to have? When you take the ‘no-doubts thought’ into every situation, you bring your most empowered self. Your Mental Body is influencing the rest of your bodies and your life. What thoughts are you putting into your Mental Body every day? What thoughts are you attaching to? What thoughts do you want to change? How might your life change if you learn to examine your thoughts? Patterns in your life depend on the repetition of thoughts in your mind. What patterns do you want to change? Here’s a tool from Dr. Joe Dispenza that can help. When you find yourself with a thought you no longer want to energize, say ‘Stop!’ Have a new thought ready to replace it and think that thought, with energy and commitment. Every time you do this, you weaken the old neural pathway and energize/strengthen the new one. You are in charge of what you think! Empower yourself to create the Mental Body you want to live within. Sometimes my clients get frustrated that this transition isn’t instantaneous, but if you’ve spent a lifetime embracing thoughts that came from outside yourself (parents, teachers, religion, culture), those neural pathways can be deeply entrenched and strong. So be gentle with yourself as you start this process. It takes some practice. And it is worth it to do the work! Your thoughts can elicit emotions that create chemicals in your body and cascade into your physical life. It’s all connected. Examine your thoughts as they arise. Catch yourself thinking something that does not feel empowering and change your thoughts. YOU know what you want to be thinking. YOU know how you want your life to be. And, as always, there is help available when you are ready to change your life! In Part 4 we’ll discover Beliefs in the Spiritual Body and what their influence can be. See you there!

Part 4 of a 6-Part Series For most of my adult life, I thought time and money were two different things. I now believe they are the same thing. I spent the majority of my middle years—roughly ages 40 to 65—working. Not just at my job, but at everything life required: maintaining a home, paying bills, managing finances, keeping up with obligations, caring for relationships, and trying to stay on top of it all. Can you relate? Many of us were taught that this was simply what responsible adults do. We work now so that someday we can stop working. We sacrifice now so we can enjoy life later. That was certainly my belief. I thought I was building a future. I thought I was earning the right to eventually relax. Along the way, I accumulated things that promised comfort, convenience, and ease. A nicer home. Better furniture. Vacations. Dining out. Little rewards that helped offset the stress and exhaustion of working so hard. Looking back, I see things differently. I was trading my time for money. Even more important, I was dramatically undervaluing my time. I gave it away freely—to employers, clients, obligations, expectations, worries, and responsibilities. Then I apologized when there wasn’t enough left for me. Today, I feel grateful to have survived those years. Not because they were all bad. They weren’t. But because I can now see them more clearly. And what I see ahead is not decline. I see opportunity. I see a runway that is still long. I see possibilities that previous generations rarely imagined. Most importantly, I no longer see time as something that is running out. That voice belongs to old programming. It belongs to the part of us that measures life by scarcity. The New Centenarian sees something different. The New Centenarian sees time as the most valuable asset they possess. The Wake-Up Call Over the past several years, I began examining how I spent my time every day. Not occasionally. Every day. I tracked my activities, my thoughts, and most importantly, my energy. I started noticing something fascinating. Certain activities drained me. Others generated energy. Some tasks left me exhausted even when they took only thirty minutes. Other activities left me energized after several hours. That realization changed everything. I wasn’t just measuring time. I was measuring the return on my investment of time. The Hidden Programming Many of our lives were built around external calendars. Work schedules. School schedules. Sports schedules. Family schedules. Someone else decided where our time went. Even when I became an independent contractor at age fifty and technically became my own boss, my habits didn’t change. In fact, I became my worst boss ever. I was never working hard enough. Never successful enough. Never productive enough. Never enough. Perhaps you’ve heard that voice too. Eventually, I had to ask myself: Why do I still feel this way? I had achieved much of what I thought I wanted. Yet I wasn’t experiencing the freedom I expected. That question led me somewhere entirely different. The Time and Energy Audit I began recording my days in fifteen-minute increments. Not because I wanted to become more productive. Because I wanted to become more aware. Each segment received an energy score. Some activities depleted me: detail work, accounting, paperwork, and administrative tasks often left me feeling drained. Other activities had the opposite effect: meaningful conversation, brainstorming a new idea, writing, teaching, learning, and connecting with people seemed to create energy rather than consume it. That was my breakthrough. I stopped asking: How can I get more done? And started asking: What gives me life? My Life Is My Work Over time—and with a great deal of reprogramming—I began building my life differently. Today, my calendar reflects my New Centenarian philosophy: My life is my work. My days include meditation, contemplation, movement, connection, writing, learning, creative projects, paid work, and meaningful conversations. Everything supports the whole. I no longer divide life into “work time” and “living time.” Life is living. Some of it generates income. Some of it generates energy. The goal is not to eliminate work. The goal is to create a life that generates more energy than it consumes. An Unexpected Discovery One of the greatest surprises? I don’t feel like I need a vacation anymore. Of course, I enjoy travel. I love exploring new places and meeting new people. But I no longer need to escape my life. My life itself has become restorative. I have noticed that many people who desperately need vacations are often trying to recover from lives that drain them. Then they return home and start the cycle again. The New Centenarian asks a different question: “What if I designed a life I didn’t need to escape from?” Your Turn What if you looked closely at how you’re spending your precious hours? Not to judge yourself. Not to optimize yourself. Simply to understand yourself. What activities generate energy? What activities drain it? What thoughts are costing you the most time? What would happen if you spent more time doing what expands you and less time doing what diminishes you? Perhaps that is where the New Centenarian journey begins. Not with living to one hundred. But with fully living today. After all Time is the new money. And how you spend it determines the quality of your life.

When you hear the word strength, what comes to mind? For most women, it's about pushing through, holding it all together, taking care of everyone else, meeting those endless deadlines, solving problems, and being the one people can count on no matter what. But after working with women for more than three decades, I've learned there's so much more to the story. The strongest women I know aren't just mentally tough. They're physically capable, mentally resilient, emotionally grounded, and deeply connected to what matters most. And summer? It might just be the perfect season to strengthen all four of these dimensions. Whether you're 35 and crushing it in your career but feeling completely disconnected from your body, 50 and focused on simply getting through each day without falling apart, or 65 and finally ready to thrive instead of just survive, let me be clear about something. This conversation isn't about looking good in a bikini or fitting into last summer's jeans. This is about feeling powerful in your own skin. This is about reclaiming the kind of strength that carries you through whatever life throws your way. The Four Dimensions of Summer Strength Here's what I know to be true: wellness isn't one-dimensional. The women who feel most confident and energized are building what I call "integrated strength," a foundation that supports every area of their lives. Physical Strength: Can your body support the life you want to live? This goes beyond the gym. It's about having the energy to keep up with your grandkids, the stamina for that dream vacation, and the confidence that your body won't limit your choices. Mental Strength: Can you stay flexible when life doesn't go according to plan? Mental resilience isn't about being tough all the time. It's about bouncing back faster, adapting to change with grace, and maintaining your sense of self when everything feels chaotic. Emotional Strength: Can you trust yourself and your body again? After years of putting everyone else first, many women lose touch with their own needs. Emotional strength means reconnecting with that inner wisdom and learning to prioritize your well-being without guilt. Spiritual Strength: Can you stay connected to what matters most? This isn't necessarily about religion. It's about maintaining perspective, staying grounded in your values, and nurturing relationships and activities that truly fulfill you rather than just fill your calendar. Summer offers a unique opportunity to focus on these four areas because the season itself invites renewal, energy, and connection. Which Type of Strength Needs Your Attention This Summer? Take a moment to honestly assess where you are right now. Ask yourself: Is my body getting stronger, or is it simply getting by? When I talk to myself, do I sound like an encouraging friend or a harsh critic? Do I actually trust my body to tell me what it needs? Am I creating real space for joy, purpose, and connection? Your answers will point you toward where to focus your energy this season. The goal isn't to fix everything at once. The goal is to start somewhere that feels both important and doable. The Physical Foundation While all four dimensions deserve attention, here's what I've witnessed: when you start caring for your physical health, even with small, consistent actions, something profound begins to shift. Your energy improves. Your confidence grows. Stress becomes more manageable. When you nourish your body properly and move it regularly, you strengthen your emotional resilience and mental clarity. The woman who stays hydrated and incorporates both cardio and strength training isn't just supporting her cardiovascular system; she's managing stress hormones, supporting brain function, and building steady energy. This is especially crucial for women over 40. Strength training is just as important for heart health as cardiovascular exercise. Building muscle mass supports your metabolism, protects your bones, and strengthens your heart in ways that walking alone can't achieve. Simple Summer Strength Builders: For Your Heart & Muscles: Think workout snacks: controlled walking lunges across the hallway, chair dips or wall push-ups throughout your day, taking the stairs instead of elevators, or short-burst power walks where you pump your arms and kick it into gear for 2-3 minutes. For Hydration: Start your day with water before anything else. Keep a water bottle visible. Add lemon, cucumber, or a splash of 100% juice if plain water feels boring. For Sustained Energy: Prioritize protein at breakfast. Yes, eggs work great, but so do nuts in your oatmeal, greens in a smoothie, or creative combinations like quinoa bowls. Think outside the box and choose foods that sustain rather than spike and crash your energy. The goal isn't perfection or hour-long gym sessions. It's consistency in small things that compound over time into real strength. A Summer Permission Slip You do not need to overhaul your life this summer. You do not need to train harder, do more, or prove anything to anyone. You do not need to earn your vacation or your rest. You do not need to shrink yourself to fit anyone else's idea of who you should be. What if your only goal this summer was to become stronger in the ways that matter most to you? What if that was enough? This summer, don't focus on becoming a different woman. Focus on becoming a stronger version of the woman you already are. Strong enough to carry your dreams forward. Strong enough to weather challenges. Strong enough to trust yourself and your body again. Strong enough to fully participate in your life instead of just managing it. Because strength isn't measured by a number on a scale. It's measured by the freedom, confidence, energy, and joy you bring into each day. That's the kind of summer strength that changes everything.

LIVING ON HIGHER GROUND You have raised my up. To live on higher ground. Who am I, in this atmosphere of love? No more flooding. No more drowning. No more dying. ”I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NKJV) Illustration by Marie Ek Lipanovska Swedish author, illustrator, artist and meditation teacher
Stress is an unavoidable part of life and business. For entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, the burden can feel even heavier because there is often no one else to carry it with you. A project falls short of expectations, a key client decides to move in a different direction, or a marketing initiative fails to deliver the desired results. Add the daily demands of running a business, and it becomes clear that stress is not an occasional feeling; it is part of the journey. While many discussions focus on reducing stress, emotional intelligence offers a different perspective. Rather than trying to eliminate every source of pressure, emotional intelligence helps us develop the skills necessary to navigate change, uncertainty, and setbacks effectively. According to Multi-Health Systems, the Stress Management Composite scale is comprised of Flexibility, Stress Tolerance, and Optimism. Collectively, these emotional intelligence competencies address how well an individual copes with the emotions associated with change and unfamiliar or unpredictable circumstances while remaining hopeful about the future and resilient in the face of setbacks and obstacles. Flexibility is the ability to adapt emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to unfamiliar, unpredictable, and dynamic circumstances or ideas. Stress Tolerance involves coping with stressful or difficult situations while maintaining the belief that one can manage or influence them positively. Optimism reflects a positive attitude and outlook on life, allowing individuals to remain hopeful and resilient despite occasional setbacks. In this article, we will explore how flexibility lays the foundation for resilience, how stress tolerance builds over time through experience, and how optimism helps business owners maintain perspective and momentum during challenging times. Strong emotional intelligence allows you to keep your head up, remain calm, and think clearly through the situation in front of you. Flexibility: Be Nimble and Kind to Yourself Disruptions can be frustrating, especially for those of us who thrive on structure. Yet flexibility is not about abandoning plans or lowering standards. It is about adapting when circumstances change while remaining focused on what matters most. Rigidity can create unnecessary stress and even paralysis. The truth is that plans sometimes need to be modified. Perhaps your morning routine involves arriving early to review your calendar, emails, and priorities for the day. This week, however, meetings begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. Rather than abandoning the practice altogether, move it to lunchtime or the end of the day. Keep the intention, even if the timing has to change. Flexibility also requires a willingness to accept help. As entrepreneurs and business owners, we often convince ourselves that we are the only ones who can do certain tasks correctly. However, adapting to changing circumstances may require delegating responsibilities or outsourcing work. Doing so often means accepting that someone else may approach the task differently than you would. Different does not necessarily mean wrong. Sometimes the ability to let go of control creates the capacity you need to focus on higher-value activities. Finally, prioritization is essential to flexibility. When time becomes limited, not everything can remain a top priority. Flexible business owners are willing to reassess their workload and focus their energy on the activities that most directly support their goals. Rather than trying to do everything, they identify what matters most and allocate their time accordingly. Being flexible does not mean being reactive or disorganized. It means adjusting your thoughts, behaviors, and expectations to meet the realities of the situation in front of you. When combined with resilience, flexibility allows you to continue moving forward, even when circumstances do not unfold as planned. Stress Tolerance: Building Capacity Through Experience Stress tolerance is often misunderstood. Many people assume that individuals with high stress tolerance do not feel stress. In reality, they experience stress just like everyone else. The difference is that they have developed confidence in their ability to work through it. But being able to handle stress does not happen overnight. It is built over time and through experience. Think about the first time you gave a presentation, handled a difficult client conversation, or made a significant financial decision. The experience likely felt uncomfortable and stressful. Yet after repeating similar experiences over months and years, your confidence grew. While stress tolerance builds through experience, there are practical techniques that can help in the moment when stress levels begin to rise. The first is planning when you can. If you know a disruption is coming, do what you can to front-load your responsibilities. I usually spend one day a week writing blog content and scheduling social media posts. Knowing I would be unavailable for several days, I prepared two weeks' worth in advance. This same principle can apply to your work calendar. If you expect next week to be packed with client meetings or vendor visits, can you consolidate one-on-one check-ins with your team into a group meeting this week? Can you prepare reports, proposals, or communications ahead of time? A little foresight goes a long way in preventing things from spiraling out of control. The second strategy is focusing on what you can control. Stress often increases when we focus on outcomes, other people, or circumstances outside our influence. Shifting your attention to the actions you can take right now helps restore a sense of stability and control. The third strategy is slowing your physical response. Deep breathing, taking a brief walk, stretching, or simply stepping away from a stressful situation for a few minutes can help reduce the intensity of the emotional reaction. When the body calms, the mind often follows. Stress tolerance is not about pretending everything is fine. It is about trusting your ability to handle whatever comes next, adapting when circumstances change, and continuing to move forward despite uncertainty. Optimism: Maintaining Hope Without Ignoring Reality The final component of stress management is optimism. When people hear the word optimism, they often think of positivity. While optimism certainly includes a positive outlook, it is much more than simply looking on the bright side. Within emotional intelligence, optimism is the ability to remain hopeful and resilient despite setbacks, challenges, and uncertainty. Optimistic people do not ignore reality. They acknowledge difficulties while maintaining confidence that solutions can be found and progress can be made. An optimistic business owner does not pretend that a lost client, declining revenue, or an unexpected obstacle is insignificant. Instead, she recognizes the challenge while maintaining the belief that she can navigate it successfully. Optimism creates the confidence needed to continue moving forward when circumstances would otherwise tempt us to quit. The optimistic person says, "This situation is difficult, but it is temporary. I have faced challenges before, and I can work through this one as well." Rather than becoming consumed by what has gone wrong, she focuses on what can be learned, what actions can be taken, and what opportunities may still exist. But what if optimism does not come naturally to you? If that is the case, during times of stress, it becomes important to intentionally draw on past successes. Think about a difficult situation you have previously overcome. What actions did you take? What strengths did you rely on? Which of those lessons might apply to your current challenge? It is also important to guard against catastrophic thinking. Under stress, our minds often rush to the worst possible outcome. A key client leaves, and suddenly we imagine the entire business collapsing. A new service fails to gain traction, and we conclude that every future initiative will fail as well. When you find yourself moving toward worst-case scenarios, pause and challenge your thinking. Ask yourself, "What are three positive outcomes that could emerge from this situation?" For example, if a key client decides to take their business elsewhere, your first thoughts might be, "I will never recover that revenue," or "My services are no longer relevant." Instead, consider alternative possibilities. Perhaps the reduced workload creates time to develop a new service offering. Maybe it allows you to focus on attracting more profitable clients, or it becomes the catalyst for improving operational efficiency. Finally, recognize that optimism is not something you must generate alone. Sometimes we need to borrow hope from others. Is there someone in your organization, professional network, or circle of trusted advisors who naturally sees possibilities while remaining grounded in reality? Seek out their perspective. A conversation with the right person can often help you see opportunities that stress has temporarily hidden from view. Optimism is not about denying challenges. It is about believing that challenges can be overcome. That belief allows us to persevere, adapt, and continue moving forward, even when the path ahead is uncertain. Stress is not a sign that you are doing something wrong. In many cases, it is evidence that you are growing and pursuing goals that matter. The question is not whether challenges will arise, but how you will respond when they do. Flexibility allows you to adapt when circumstances change. Stress tolerance gives you confidence in your ability to work through difficult situations. Optimism helps you maintain hope and perspective when the path forward is not immediately clear. Together, these emotional intelligence competencies create the resilience needed to navigate uncertainty and continue moving forward. As a business owner, your ability to manage stress does not just impact your own well-being; it influences your decisions, your leadership, and the people who depend on you. By strengthening these skills, you position yourself to face challenges with greater confidence, clarity, and purpose.

In Part 1 of this series, I explored what it means to Be the Change, not as a concept, but as a way of living from the inside out. I spoke about peace, presence, and the invitation to embody what we want to see in the world. Once I consciously decided that I wanted to be part of the change the question became: How do I choose where, and how, to show up? Part 2 is about discerning what is ours to do. Part 3 is about the logical next question: what happens when we stop trying to do it alone and remember that we need one another? I have spent twenty-six years officially creating spaces for women to gather, and many years before that unofficially offering women opportunities to come together. Sometimes people ask me why I keep doing it. After all, bringing women together month after month and year after year takes time, energy, and faith. It requires showing up when I don't know who will come, what conversations will unfold, or what needs will reveal themselves. My answer is always the same: I’m still doing it because I love it and I love it because connection changes lives. I've watched women walk into a room feeling isolated and leave feeling hopeful. I've seen collaborations form, businesses launch, friendships blossom, and tears of relief flow simply because someone finally felt seen and heard. I believe gathering is medicine. And I think we need that medicine now more than ever. We Are Not Meant to Do This Alone One of the greatest myths of our culture is that we are supposed to figure it all out by ourselves. We're taught to be independent, strong, and self-sufficient. Those qualities certainly have their place, but somewhere along the way, many of us also absorbed another message: You should be able to do it all on your own. I don't believe that's true. I believe we are wired for connection. I believe we are meant to walk beside one another. I believe our lives become richer, more meaningful, and more purposeful when we share them with others. Perhaps that's why periods of isolation often feel painful. They remind us that we are not separate beings moving through life independently. We belong to one another. The Buddhist teacher and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh called this "interbeing." I love that word because it reminds us that our lives are deeply intertwined. My wellbeing affects yours. Yours affects mine. We are connected in ways that are both visible and invisible. I have felt this truth repeatedly throughout my life. Gathering Is Sacred Over the years, women have shared with me that they come to our gatherings because they can breathe there. They can exhale. They can take off the masks they wear in other parts of their lives. They can speak honestly, laugh, cry, and simply be themselves. Most importantly, they can be seen and heard. That phrase has become one of the guiding principles of the On Purpose Woman Global Community because I believe there is something profoundly healing about being witnessed without judgment. Many women spend years feeling unseen. They are caring for others, building businesses, working, holding families together, and showing up for everyone else. Somewhere in the process, parts of themselves become invisible. Then they sit in a room with other women, in-person or on Zoom, who are listening generously, and something begins to soften. Shoulders relax. Tears may appear. Hope returns. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give another human being is our presence. Not our advice. Not our solutions. Our presence. Community as a Catalyst When I started the On Purpose Woman Global Community, I wasn't trying to build an organization. I was responding to a longing. I wanted women to have a place where relationships mattered more than transactions, where they could connect heart to heart instead of simply exchanging business cards. I wanted women to know they didn't have to navigate life alone and that the world needed their voices. What I've discovered is that community doesn't simply comfort us. Community calls us forward. When we gather with others who are living intentionally, something in us wakes up. Someone shares a dream and suddenly we remember one of our own. Someone speaks their truth and we find the courage to speak ours. Someone takes a risk and we become a little braver. Community reminds us of who we are and sometimes of who we are becoming. Over the years, I've watched women step into speaking, writing, entrepreneurship, leadership, and service because someone in our community simply believed in them before they believed in themselves. That's the power of gathering. It becomes a catalyst. The Beauty of Collaboration I believe that collaboration is one of the most powerful forms of change-making. Our culture often teaches us to compete, compare ourselves to one another, and worry that there won't be enough opportunities to go around. But I have witnessed something very different. I have seen abundance emerge when women come together. I have seen partnerships form that neither person could have created alone. I have watched women introduce one another to opportunities, celebrate each other's successes, and genuinely cheer one another on. Something magical happens when we stop asking, "How can I make this happen?" and begin asking, "What could we create together?" None of us carries all the gifts. But together, we carry many. Collective Grace There is another reason gathering matters. None of us gets through life without seasons of challenge. There are times when we are the one offering encouragement, and there are times when we are the one needing it. Community allows us to take turns. I think of this as collective grace. Collective grace is the understanding that we hold one another up. When one person's light feels dim, someone else's light shines a little brighter. When one woman is grieving, another sits beside her. When someone forgets her strength, others remind her. I experienced this in a profound way after my husband, Don, was seriously injured in a head-on car accident last year. In an instant, our lives changed. There were days in the ICU, a rehabilitation facility, doctor's appointments, and all of the uncertainty that comes with watching someone you love recover from significant injuries. And something beautiful happened. The women in my community stepped forward. They checked in on us. They sent messages, cards, healing, prayers, and words of encouragement. They covered meetings and responsibilities. They gave me the space to be fully present as a caregiver and reminded me that I didn't have to carry everything alone. Their kindness wasn't grand or dramatic. It was simply love in action. In those moments, I wasn't the community builder. I was the one being held by the community I had helped create. And what I discovered once again is that community isn't just about gathering when life is easy. Community reveals its deepest purpose when life becomes difficult. It becomes a circle of care that catches us when we are struggling and gently carries us until we can find our footing again. We become, in many ways, living examples of grace for one another. Perhaps that is one of the deepest truths of being the change. The change we seek is rarely created by one extraordinary person. It is created by ordinary people showing up for one another, over and over again. Weaving a Better World I love the idea that humanity is a tapestry. Each of us is a thread. No single thread creates the beauty. The beauty emerges because the threads are woven together. Each color matters. Each texture matters. Each person's gifts matter. This is why I continue to gather women after all these years. Because I believe connection is not an extra. It is essential. I believe community is not a luxury. It is nourishment. I believe collaboration is not optional. It is how we create a more compassionate and connected world. And I believe that every time we sit with another person and truly listen, every time we offer encouragement, and every time we gather in love and possibility, we are already being the change. We are weaving a better world, one conversation, one connection, and one brave and beautiful gathering at a time. We Are Still the Ones In Part 1, we claimed the truth: We are the ones we've been waiting for. In Part 2, we refined it: We are the ones, and we don't have to do it all. We simply have to do what is ours with intention, clarity, and heart. In Part 3, we were reminded that: We are not meant to do it alone. Connection, collaboration, and community can become powerful catalysts for healing, purpose, and collective grace.

Surviving is a powerful stage—though it rarely feels that way when you’re in it. This is the season where you begin taking care of the basics, showing up, and managing responsibilities. On the outside, things may still look good. But internally, something deeper is happening. You begin to unpack what you’ve hidden: The secrets. The trauma. The beliefs you didn’t even realize you were carrying. For me, this stage required looking honestly at the thoughts and beliefs that shaped my life. Changing Your Thinking As I reflected on my life, I realized many of my beliefs were never consciously chosen. They were inherited, absorbed, or simply picked up along the way. Ideas like: “Prepare for the worst.” “Struggle is your portion.” “You carry the weight of past generations.” These thoughts were not only unexamined, they were also limiting. I also began to examine my early experiences. As a young girl, I was sent from Virginia to Washington, DC during school integration. I faced confusion, displacement, and trauma—experiences that shaped how I saw myself and the world. I learned to survive by being responsible, performing well, and staying in control. Later in life, I achieved more — degrees, career success, recognition —but none of it touched the deeper issue: I did not feel worthy. Survival mode taught me how to function—but not how to heal. Everything began to shift when I was introduced to new ways of thinking—through transformational learning, spiritual communities, and mentors who challenged my perspective. I began to understand: What I focused on expands. My thoughts shape my reality. And most importantly, my past does not define my future. I also discovered something profound within myself: There are two internal voices: The ego, designed to protect and keep me safe The higher self, designed to guide and expand my life The question became: Who is in charge? Surviving is not weakness—it is awakening. It is the space where you begin to question everything… and open yourself to a new way of living. If you are here, doing the hard inner work, I want you to know: You are not stuck. You are transforming. Questions? Comments? Complete the “Drop me a line” on my website, www.RuthLittlejohn.com.

Observe — Listening to the Wisdom Hidden Within Your Life There comes a moment in every woman's life when she begins to wonder if there is more to her story than the events she has survived. More than the disappointments. More than the accomplishments. More than the roles she has played for everyone else. It is often a quiet moment. A pause between obligations. A deep breath after a difficult season. A page in a journal that invites honesty. And in that moment, the soul whispers: Pay attention. The first truth of your Soul Story is observation. Before you can transform your story, you must first be willing to see it. Many of us move through life so quickly that we miss the wisdom hidden within our own experiences. We rush from one responsibility to another, rarely stopping long enough to notice what our lives are trying to teach us. Yet your life has been speaking to you all along. Every challenge you've faced. Every dream you've pursued. Every heartbreak you've endured. Every unexpected blessing you've received. Together, they form a sacred tapestry of experiences carrying wisdom meant specifically for you. Observation is not about reliving the past or dwelling on what has gone wrong. It is about cultivating curiosity. It is about becoming a compassionate witness to your own life. When you begin observing your experiences through the eyes of your soul rather than through judgment, something remarkable happens. Patterns emerge. Connections become visible. Lessons reveal themselves. What once felt random begins to make sense. Journaling offers one of the most powerful ways to practice observation. When you place pen to paper and allow your thoughts to unfold without censorship, you create space for deeper truths to surface. Questions such as: What keeps showing up in my life? What experiences shaped who I am today? What moments changed me? What am I being invited to learn right now? can open doors to profound self-discovery. You may discover that the challenge you once viewed as a burden actually revealed your resilience. You may recognize that a disappointment redirected you toward a more authentic path. You may uncover strengths you never knew you possessed. Most importantly, you begin to understand that your experiences have value. Not because they were easy. But because they taught you something essential. The wisdom you gain through observation becomes the foundation upon which your future is built. And that wisdom is not only for you. Someone, somewhere, is waiting for the insight that only your experiences can provide. For instance, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. It’s happened to me three times. When people learn that they look at me as more than a statistic. I am a woman who did more than cope after a significant life experience; I am thriving. After my second breast cancer experience, I realized the vital importance of my writing in my healing journey. My journal entries became the basis for my memoir, “The Secret Artist-Give Yourself Permission to Let Your Creativity Shine,” where I share my experiences and invite readers to start writing their own stories through writing prompts. Now I write and speak on how I view breast cancer as a gift because it gave me clarity on what was truly important to me. A woman struggling with grief may find comfort in the path you have already walked. A woman questioning her worth may discover hope through your honesty. A woman standing where you once stood may find courage because you chose to pay attention to your journey and share what you learned. Observation is the beginning of transformation. It is the sacred act of saying: My story matters. My experiences matter. There is wisdom here worth discovering. Today, give yourself permission to pause. Listen. Notice. Reflect. Your Soul Story is speaking. The question is: Are you ready to hear it? As you begin noticing the patterns, lessons, and whispers woven throughout your life, you may find yourself wondering what it all means and how these experiences fit together into a larger purpose. A Soul Story Roadmap Session is a compassionate, one-on-one conversation designed to help you uncover the wisdom hidden within your experiences, identify the themes shaping your journey, and gain clarity about the story your soul is inviting you to live. Your life has been speaking to you all along. Together, let's discover what it has been trying to say. Schedule your Soul Story Roadmap Session today and begin uncovering the wisdom waiting within your story.

Did you ever have one of those days when you just didn't feel like doing anything? That's what happed to me this morning. I had a full day planned, starting with a morning gym class and a chiropractor appointment, followed by a full schedule of writing tasks (including this newsletter). But guess what? I didn't want to do any of it! Chalk it up to a bad night's sleep, or some chronic health issues, or just plain ennui - all I wanted to do was crawl back into bed and throw the covers over my head. Fortunately, my good girl instincts took over and I made it to the chiro, but after he prescribed a rigorous elimination diet and twice weekly sessions to deal with some nerve issues, I felt even worse. Is this going to be it, I wondered? Am I joining the ranks of elders with long lists of aches and pains, doctor's appointments and medical treatments, and nothing interesting to talk about over dinner? Speaking of which, am I ever going to be able to enjoy the foods I love at dinner again? Obviously, I was in a funk and I had to shake myself out of it. So instead of heading home to my waiting laptop, I took myself for a walk at one of my favorite spots, Greenfield Lake. I hadn't noticed that it was a beautiful crisp fall day, with temperatures in the 70s and a light breeze. I had missed the sun dancing on the fall leaves, and the subtle colors of late-flowering plants. I had forgotten what it's like to wander aimlessly, with no destination and nothing on my mind but how to find a reason to go on. It took a good 10 minutes of walking with my head in the storm clouds before I started to notice the beauty all around me. When I did, I remembered that Mama Gaia is the greatest healer. She reminds us that to everything there is a season, and there is beauty even in the darkest winter. I can't say that walk made me forget my woes, but it did remind me to be grateful for all that I have instead of bemoaning all that I've lost. Sometimes playing hooky is the best medicine, even if your to-do list has to wait.
