Sanctus: Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The Mystery of Faith: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. PRELUDE: Duane Prill, organ Variations on “Sine Nomine” (“For All the Saints”) — Richard Proulx INTROIT: This is the three-fold truth on which our faith depends; And with this joyful cry our worship begins and ends: Christ has died! Christ is risen! Christ will come again! (Words: Fred Pratt Green; Tune: Acclamations, Jack Schrader) *CALL TO WORSHIP We are God’s handiwork. Fashioned of clay that we might never lose touch with our earth, Created by God to remember whose we are. Created with hearts to feel the cords of love that stretch between us, Always yearning, so we might seek and be found by a faithful God, We are God’s delight; let us praise our God. *PROCESSIONAL HYMN: #711 “For All the Saints”, vv. 1, 2, 5, 6 *WELCOME and PASSING THE PEACE *GATHERING HYMN: #708 “Rejoice in God’s Saints”, vv. 1, 2, 3 INVOCATION (from A Wee Worship Book, Wild Goose Worship Group, Iona Abbey) Let us pray: Heaven is here, and earth, and the space is thin between them. Distance may divide, but Christ’s promise unites those bounded by time, those blessed by eternity. Heaven is here, and earth, and the Church visible and invisible is one. Peter is here, and Paul, Martha and all the Marys, Theresa and Luther King; the saints from far back and those who left us not long ago. And only sight prevents us from seeing them, one with us on the other side. Heaven is here, and earth, and God who made them is present. God inhales the breath of our prayers and offers us life in the community of the saints. Let heaven be glad, let the whole earth cry glory! Amen. SCRIPTURE: Psalm 34:1-10 (Contemporary English Version) I will always praise the Lord. With all my heart, I will praise the Lord. Let all who are helpless, listen and be glad. Honor the Lord with me! Celebrate God’s great name. I asked the Lord for help, and God saved me from all my fears. Keep your eyes on the Lord! You will shine like the sun and never blush with shame. I was a nobody, but I prayed, and the Lord saved me from all my troubles. If you honor the Lord, the angel will protect you. Discover for yourself that the Lord is kind. Come to God for protection, and you will be glad. Honor the Lord! You are God’s special people. No one who honors the Lord will ever be in need. Young lions may go hungry or even starve, but if you trust the Lord, you will never miss out on anything good. For the Word of God in Scripture. For the Word of God among us. For the Word of God within us. Thanks be to God. CHILDREN'S TIME: Jo Urriola-Schonewolf, Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries Children of all ages are invited to join us in this special moment. LORD’S PRAYER Our Father (or Our God), who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. SERMON REMEMBERING THE SAINTS Lists of deceased members and friends is found on page 8 RECOGNIZING MEMORIAL GIFTS A list of memorial gifts is found on page 8 *HYMN: #708 “Rejoice in God’s Saints”, v. 4 INVITATION TO DISCIPLESHIP AND ENGAGEMENT: We are delighted you have joined us and ask that you sign and pass the red ritual of friendship pad from the center aisle down the pew. OFFERTORY: Sanctuary Choir “When I Can Read My Title Clear” — Lori Larson; words by Isaac Watts When I can read my title clear to mansions in the skies, I'll bid farewell to every fear, and wipe my weeping eyes. I feel like, I feel like I'm on my journey home. Should earth against my soul engage, and fiery darts be hurled, Then I can smile at Satan's rage, and face a frowning world. I feel like, I feel like I'm on my journey home. Let cares, like a wild deluge come, let storms of sorrow fall, So I but safely reach my home, my God, my heaven, my all. I feel like, I feel like I'm on my journey home. There I shall bathe my weary soul in seas of heavenly rest; and not a wave of trouble roll across my peaceful breast. I feel like, I feel like I'm on my journey home. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Words about the works of God. Words about the works of Jesus. Words about the work of the Holy Spirit. COMMUNION Please follow the ushers' direction and leave your pew via the center aisles. Step forward to receive the bread. Once you have received the bread, move aside to receive the juice: — by intinction (dipping the bread in the cup), or — by taking a small cup from the tray, drinking the juice, and placing the empty cup in the basket. Return to your pew via the side aisle. If you are mobility-challenged, please alert an usher, and the elements will be brought to you. Communion elements are grape juice and gluten-free bread. HYMNS DURING COMMUNION: (as needed) #617 “I Come with Joy” #619 “Now the Silence” *PRAYER AFTER RECEIVING: God of all, we give you thanks and praise, that when we were still far off, you met us in your Son and brought us home. Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace and opened the way to you. May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world. Amen. *RECESSIONAL HYMN: #670 “Go Forth for God” *BENEDICTION *BENEDICTION RESPONSE: Amen. (Claude Debussy) POSTLUDE: Postlude on “Saint Anne” (“O God, Our Help in Ages Past”) — Healey Willan

November 1: Stories from the Exodus—The Underground Railroad As we remember the saints who have gone before us, we being our series on liberation movements inspired by the Exodus story, beginning with abolitionists in the antebellum United States. November 8: Stories from the Exodus—The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising We’ll trace the centrality of the Exodus story in Judaism before exploring an example of the fight for Jewish liberation in Nazi-controlled Poland. November 15: Stories from the Exodus—Latin American Liberation Theology We’ll explore the history of colonialism in the Americas and how twentieth-century Latin American liberation movements used the Exodus story in their theology of salvation. November 22: Stories from the Exodus—Joshua and Indigenous Americans We’ll explore the conversation between the conquest narrative of Joshua, the role of the Canaanites in that story, and the theological justifications for the violent oppression of Native Americans during European colonization. November 29: Waiting on God—The Present State of the World On this first Sunday of Advent, we’ll gather together a list of what we think is broken or wrong in this world and ask ourselves if God is still at work among us.
Asbury First's Sunday School Forum meets weekly on Sundays in Fellowship Hall between services to discuss a range of topics including current events, social justice, and discipleship practices. All are welcome to gather with us as we learn more about ourselves, our community, and the world around us. Each week stands alone, so come as you are able! Pastor Dee and Jo Urriola-Schonewolf will be coordinating and facilitating this group. For more information, please contact programs@asburyfirst.org.

Join author Nico Lang for a critical conversation on how to be an ally to trans kids during a turbulent era. Saturday, November 21 at 3 pm in the Gathering Center. From the tip of Florida’s conservative panhandle to vibrant queer communities in California, and from Texas churches to mosques in Illinois, American Teenager gives readers a window into the lives of eight teens who, despite what some lawmakers might want us to believe, are truly just kids looking for a brighter future.
Last Christmas, our congregation’s generosity helped bridge the gap for neighbors affected by SNAP cuts and bare pantry shelves. This year, we invite you to help us glow a little brighter. A generous donor has already provided the tree for the front of the church, but your donation will bring Christmas trees to the Gathering Center and altar space of the Sanctuary, so that everyone who gathers here feels the warmth of the season.
Dream of Thanksgiving dinner with a slice of Apple Crumb, Pecan, Strawberry Rhubarb, Pumpkin, or Rumbleberry Pie? Pies are $20 each, baked by Special Touch Bakery (School of the Holy Childhood), and freeze well for Christmas. Order and pay in the Welcome Hall on Sundays, November 1, and 8. Pick up your pies there on Monday, November 23, 1-5 pm. Every pie supports Asbury First’s work building homes through Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity’s annual fundraiser.

Think of it as both a Town Hall and a family meeting: a time to celebrate what God has done among us, to affirm leaders for the coming year, and to take care of essential matters that shape our shared life. For those interested in the ongoing budget process, updates will be published in early November for your information and questions; the budget will not be finalized and passed until January. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for this special gathering—and make plans to attend the musical afterward!

Our annual stewardship season has begun and by now you've likely received a letter from the Generosity Team introducing this year’s theme, Faithfully Together, inviting you to consider your commitment to Asbury First for 2027. As we enter this season, we hope you will take some time for prayer and reflection, giving thanks for the ways this community has touched your life and considering how you might participate in its ministry in the year ahead. There is no need to rush. We simply invite you to begin the conversation with God and to approach this season with an open heart.
