COVID-19 Guidelines Our current COVID-19 safety policy is “masking by choice.” Everyone on our campus may choose to wear a mask at any time as an additional precaution to protect themselves and those around them. We will respect everyone’s choice in this matter. To learn more about the new policy, visit asburyfirst.org/news/2022/6/june-covid-masking-update. FIRST TIME HERE We are so glad you are joining us, whether in person or online. If you’re out there watching, check in through the website or take a picture and post it on social media using #asburyfirstathome. If you're in the pews, please sign in on the red fellowship pad and pass it down your pew. Our hope is to get to know you better and help you find your place within our community. Additionally, drop us an email at info@asburyfirst.org. ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL Large print bulletins and hymnals are available from the ushers. A hearing loop is available for those who have hearing aids with T switches, and you may also request earphones from the ushers to aid you in hearing the service. Need prayer? We invite you to share with us how we can be praying for you by emailing prayers@asburyfirst.org or by filling out one of our prayer cards found in the pews. All prayer requests are prayed over by our Ministers and Intercessory Prayer Team. Children We believe children are a sacred gift, and they are welcome in our worship. Children will be invited forward during worship for a Children’s Time. Following this, children ages 4 through 5th grade are invited to go with our children’s educators for further enrichment or return to their caretaker for the remainder of the service. Prelude
“Liturgy” — Craig Penfield “Song of Peace” — Michael Shea “I Need Thee Every Hour” — arr. Steven Scott
Introit
Come away from rush and hurry to the stillness of God’s peace; from our vain ambition’s worry, come to Christ and find release. Come away from noise and clamor, life’s demands and frenzied pace; come to join the people gathered here to seek and find a place. (Words: Marva Dawn; Tune: Beach Spring, arr. Dale Wood)
*Call to Worship
All are invited to read the bold-faced type; the reader will read the unbolded type. We gather in awe, standing in the presence of the One who crafted the stars, the mountains, the seas. We gather in faith, trusting that the One who has held little children holds our lives in the heart of God. We gather in need, seeking the One who longs for justice to grace each and every person in creation.

#110 “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” (Note: Online users may click the link of the title to access the hymn)

Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost
The community gathers As the community gathers, may the music of the prelude draw your hearts and minds to God.
Prayer of Confession
Surrounded by so many seductions, Patient God, we find it difficult to see you in our lives. We witness so much persecution and affliction towards the little ones of the world. Our neighborhoods, our families, even our churches, are filled with strife and contention. We cry for help, Listening God; forgive us! As we wait for your grace to fill our lives, may we open ourselves to your hope and healing. Give us patient hearts, full of compassion and gratitude for your love.
Silent Confession
Words of Assurance
Rich or poor; young or old; sinner and saint: We are all God's children, and God transforms each of us into the people we are meant to be. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.
*Gloria Hymnal #102, v. 3, alt.
All glory be to God, all praise and thanks be given; Whose Son and Spirit reign as one in highest Heaven; Our one eternal God, whom earth and heaven adore; For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

To hear the word
Scripture Luke 19:1-10
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.” Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.”

Amen.

ALTAR FLOWERS The flowers on the altars are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Dr. Selden Williams by his daughter Ellen Williams; in loving memory of C.S. and Ann Hunter by Dick and Nancy Adamus; in loving memory of Joseph A. Floreano by the Floreano family; and in celebration of the 58th wedding anniversary of Ed and Joanne Zelazny. Have you noticed the lone sunflower on the altar? Please note "Ukraine", or mail a check to the church office at 1050 East Ave. We will collect these special donations and send them on to UMCOR. Guest Speaker: Justin Murphy on School Segregation
Sunday, November 20, Following the 11am Service
Wednesday, November 9, 6 pm, Sanctuary and Live-streamed at asburyfirst.org/live-stream
Join us for 11 am worship on Sunday, November 20. The service will conclude with a processional to the Community Outreach Center to dedicate our newly renovated and expanded building. Donations can also be dropped off at the front of the sanctuary before worship.
Democrat and Chronicle education reporter Justin Murphy will discuss the findings in his new book, Your Children Are Very Greatly in Danger: School Segregation in Rochester, New York. Drawing on never-before-seen archival documents as well as scores of new interviews, Murphy shows how discriminatory public policy and personal prejudice combined to create the racially segregated education system that exists in the Rochester area today.
