PRELUDE: David Strong, organ “Pazienza” — Percy Whitlock “Song 13” — Percy Whitlock INTROIT: Savior, blessed Savior, hear us as we sing, hearts and voices raising praises to our King. All we have we offer, all we hope to do, body, soul, and spirit, all we yield to you. Savior, blessed Savior, listen while we sing, hearts and voice raising praises to our King. (Words: Godfrey Thring, 1862; Avanti, Harvey Loy) *CALL TO WORSHIP (Based on Psalm 90) Lord, you teach us to tell time differently. A thousand years or a day makes no difference to you. Help us to make the most of every moment you give us. A day without you at the center is a day wasted. Show us your love in the morning, and we will be sustained all day long. May the blessing of the Lord rest on us today. *PROCESSIONAL HYMN: #66 "Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven" *WELCOME and PASSING THE PEACE *GATHERING HYMN: #133 "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms", v. 1 PRAYER OF CONFESSION Loving God, you call us into community, teach us your ways, and bless us with abundant life. Yet we turn aside to follow other paths. We take the easy way out, listening to the world’s call rather than your call to commitment; we quarrel with one another, letting differences divide us; we cherish our resentments, shutting off our hearts from forgiveness and reconciliation. Forgive us when we wander from your love. Draw us into community with each other, and feed us with the manna of your grace, that we may grow in faithfulness and work together in peace. Amen. SILENT CONFESSION WORDS OF ASSURANCE God is at work, nurturing our growth and showing us the ways that lead to life. God reconciles us to one another, forgives our disobedience, and blesses us in love. Thanks be to God! *GLORIA (#102, “Now Thank We All Our God”, v. 3 alt.) All glory be to God, all praise and thanks be given; Whose Son and Spirit reign as one in highest Heaven; Our one eternal God, whom earth and heaven adore; For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore. SCRIPTURE: Deuteronomy 34:1-12 (New Revised Standard Version, Updated) Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho, and the Lord showed him the whole land: Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, the Negeb, and the Plain—that is, the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees—as far as Zoar. The Lord said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.” Then Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab, at the Lord’s command. God buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor, but no one knows his burial place to this day. Moses was one hundred twenty years old when he died; his sight was unimpaired, and his vigor had not abated. The Israelites wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; then the period of mourning for Moses was ended. Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him, and the Israelites obeyed him, doing as the Lord had commanded Moses. Never since has there arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. He was unequaled for all the signs and wonders that the Lord sent him to perform in the land of Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants and his entire land, and for all the mighty deeds and all the terrifying displays of power that Moses performed in the sight of all Israel. For the Word of God in Scripture. For the Word of God among us. For the Word of God within us. Thanks be to God. ANTHEM: Juli Elliot, Heather Anne Tinling, Brenda Nitsch, Elizabeth Church, Dan McInerney, Mark Wright, Bob Cowles, John Messenger, singers “O Lord, Increase My Faith” — Henry Loosemore (1607-1670); text author unknown O Lord, increase my faith; strengthen me and confirm me in thy true faith. Endue me with wisdom, charity, chastity and patience; in all my adversity, Sweet Jesus, say Amen. CHILDREN'S TIME: Jo Urriola-Schonewolf, Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries Children of all ages are invited to join us in this special moment. LORD’S PRAYER Our Father (or Our God), who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. SERMON CALL TO PRAYER: Let me hear of your steadfast love in the morning, for in you I put my trust. Teach me the way I should go; Lord, show me your paths, for to you I lift up my soul. (Psalm 143:8; Music: Carl Johengen) PASTORAL PRAYER INVITATION TO DISCIPLESHIP AND ENGAGEMENT: We are delighted you have joined us and ask that you sign and pass the ritual of friendship pad from the center aisle down the pew. STEWARDSHIP MOMENT: Faithfully Together — Paula Kuempel Offering Ourselves to God's Purposes: We invite you to prayerfully consider making a gift to support the everyday ministries and operations of this church, allowing us to live into our vision to Do More Good. There are multiple ways to make a gift to Asbury First: Cash/Check—We welcome you to send a gift by check in the mail or place your cash/check gift in the offering plate as it is passed to you. Text to Give—You may give a gift with a debit/credit card by texting the dollar amount to 206-222-1050. Online—Online giving is available on our website at asburyfirst.org/give. Venmo or PayPal—scan the QR code, enter your donation amount, then choose your payment type via the icons on the form. OFFERTORY: Sanctuary Choir “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place” — Daniel Kallman; Psalm 84, para. Jonathan Asprey How lovely is thy dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts to me. My soul is longing and fainting the courts of the Lord to see. My heart and flesh they are singing for joy to the Living God. How lovely is thy dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts to me. Even the sparrow finds a home where he can settle down, and the swallow she can build a nest where she may lay her young within the courts of the Lord of Hosts, my King, my Lord and my God. And happy are those who are dwelling where the song of praise is sung. And I’d rather be a doorkeeper and only stay a day than live the life of a sinner and have to stay away. For the Lord is shining as the sun, and the Lord is like a shield; and no good thing does God withhold from those who walk the way. (first verse repeats) *DOXOLOGY: (Hymnal #95) Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Creator, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. *PRAYER OF DEDICATION God of abundance, receive what we offer with gratitude. Teach us to trust that there is enough to share, and let our generosity become daily bread, hope, and possibility for others. Amen. *RECESSIONAL HYMN: #117 "O God, Our Help in Ages Past"
*HYMN: "Eternal God Transcending Time"

If you would like to place flowers on the altars, please contact Jeanne Ristau at (585) 223-4356, preferably two weeks ahead of requested date. PRAYERS AND CONCERNS Our prayers are with Cara and Chuck Hanranhan and their daughter Emily following the death of Cara's mother, Sharon Grigsby, who died on October 13. A Celebration of Life will be held November 14 at 2 pm in the Sanctuary. Our prayers are with the family and friends of Lynn Selke whose wife Sharon Selke died on October 11. Wednesday Morning Book Study: The Bible, A Biography
Trees for Christmas
Last Christmas, our congregation’s generosity helped bridge the gap for neighbors affected by SNAP cuts and bare pantry shelves. This year, we invite you to help us glow a little brighter. A generous donor has already provided the tree for the front of the church, but your donation will bring a Christmas tree to the Gathering Center and may allow us to purchase large artificial trees for the Sanctuary, so that everyone who gathers here feels the warmth of the season.
The Banned Book Club meets Bi-monthly to read and discuss a different Banned Book. Join us Monday, November 16 at 7 pm in the Red Room (in the Community Outreach Center) as we dive into Orwell's vision of a dystopian world unnervingly similar to our own.
Join author Nico Lang for a critical conversation on how to be an ally to trans kids during a turbulent era. November 21 at 3 pm in the Gathering Center. From the tip of Florida’s conservative panhandle to vibrant queer communities in California, and from Texas churches to mosques in Illinois, American Teenager gives readers a window into the lives of eight teens who, despite what some lawmakers might want us to believe, are truly just kids looking for a brighter future.
Think you know the Bible? Think again! Join our six-week journey through Karen Armstrong's acclaimed book to explore how this text was written, fought over, and reinvented across thousands of years, from ancient exiles to the printing press and modern science. No background is required, just an open mind and a love for discussion. Wednesdays, 10 to 11:30 am, through November 18, in the Red Room (1010) and Zoom*.

Farewell to Johnny Colón
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of Johnny Colón, our Director of Property Care. Johnny has accepted a similar property management position elsewhere, and his last day with Asbury First will be November 1, 2026. Johnny’s service over the past couple of years has been quiet but consistent, and so much of what he does goes unnoticed because he does it so well. If you’d like to thank him, please write a note or drop off a card in the box in the Gathering Center, where notecards are also available.
Get ready for Dining In For Outreach with our new DIFO podcast! In the second episode, host Diana Louise Carter sits down with Bob and Barb Castle to talk about more than a decade of dinners for Dining In For Outreach. A new episode will be released each week leading up to the November 8 Celebration, so be sure to tune in. To listen to this week's episode, visit our youtube channel by scanning the QR code.
Join us Sunday, November 8, between worship services in the Gathering Center for a special celebration honoring longtime Asbury First volunteers who have been deeply involved in our outreach ministries. The celebration begins at approximately 9:45 am and will include food, music, and special recognition of our honorees, as well as of the funds raised for the Community Outreach Center through the Dining In For Outreach (DIFO) event on November 7. DIFO sign-ups are available in the Narthex through October.
