New charitable giving options for tax year 2026 Recent federal legislation introduced new rules for 2026 that could affect your charitable giving. For non-itemizers Starting in 2026, you can deduct up to $1,000 per person ($2,000 for married couples filing jointly) for cash donations. This is in addition to the standard deduction. For itemizers Your total charitable gifts will be deductible only if they exceed .05% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). In addition, for those in the 37% tax bracket, the value of your deduction will be capped at 35%. Reminder: for those over age 70 1/2 If you are over age 70 1/2, qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) from IRAs remain a powerful tool. These donations count toward your required minimum distribution (if you are required to take one) and are not included in your taxable income. They are equivalent to a 100% deduction. Please seek out the advice of a qualified estate or tax professional to evaluate your personal situation.
Unearth a story. Support summer reading at Wood Library!
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
This summer, Wood Library will come alive with opportunities to learn, connect, discover, and explore. FUN is the operative word because — well — it’s summer! Help support summer reading with a gift to the Annual Fund Drive. Your donation helps people of all ages unearth a story, dig into something new, uncover hidden interests, and discover the joy of reading and learning. Wood Library is a place of discovery for little ones stepping into storytime for the very first time. It’s a place of comfort for a young reader who wants to quietly turn pages without the pressure of reading aloud. It’s a welcoming space where teens can collaborate, create, and connect. And for adults? The possibilities are endless. Your support keeps library services accessible to everyone — including those who can’t physically visit the building — and helps make possible the programs and activities featured throughout this newsletter. The library tax does not fully fund library operations. That’s why gifts to the Annual Fund Drive are so important. Support summer reading at Wood Library by making a gift today. Scan the QR code or pick up a donation envelope the next time you visit the library.
August is Make A Will Month: Protect the People You Love Summer is a time for making memories with the people who matter most. It’s also a good reminder to plan for the future. August is Make A Will Month — the perfect time to create or update your will and ensure your wishes are clearly documented. A will provides peace of mind for you and your loved ones, while reflecting the values and causes you care about most. If you already have a will, consider giving it a quick review. If you have not created one yet, August is a great time to get started. For information about legacy giving opportunities, contact Director of Development Maria T Bucci at 585-394-1381 ext 328 or by email at mbucci@owwl.org.
