Prelude
“Entry Processional” — Simon Clark “Andante Sostenuto” from Gothic Symphony — Charles M. Widor
Introit
Stand up and bless the Lord, ye people of his choice. Stand up and bless the Lord your God with heart and soul and voice. (Words: James Montgomery; Tune: St. Michael, Genevan Psalter, 1551)
*Call to Worship
All are invited to read the bold-faced type; the reader will read the unbolded type. Come, let us worship the One who makes all things new. We come, ready to encounter God. Jesus once took a small offering and fed a multitude, In God’s realm, small acts and ordinary things become great blessings. Though we may feel insignificant, God uses what we have to transform the world. Let us offer ourselves to God. We come, trusting in God to multiply our efforts. May our hearts be open to the needs around us, As we seek to serve with love and compassion.

Prayer of Confession
Holy One, we come before you acknowledging our own hunger and thirst for you, and confessing that we often rely on our own limited resources instead of depending on you. Open our eyes to see the ways you are working in our midst, renew us and strengthen our faith, that we may wholeheartedly trust in your unfailing love and provision. Help us to see that in your hands, our small resources can be transformed to meet the needs of many. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Silent Confession
Words of Assurance
God provides all that we need: provision, guidance, and forgiveness: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are a forgiven and beloved people. Thanks be to God.
*Gloria Hymnal #102, v. 3 alt.
All glory be to God, all praise and thanks be given; Whose Son and Spirit reign as one in highest Heaven; Our one eternal God, whom earth and heaven adore; For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.
Scripture John 6:1-15
After this Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, also called the Sea of Tiberias. A large crowd kept following him because they saw the signs that he was doing for the sick. Jesus went up the mountain and sat down there with his disciples. Now the Passover, the festival of the Jews, was near. When he looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?” He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people?” Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was a great deal of grass in the place, so they sat down, about five thousand in all. Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. When they were satisfied, he told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up, and from the fragments of the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten, they filled twelve baskets. When the people saw the sign that he had done, they began to say, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world.” (cont'd)
Scripture (Cont'd)
When Jesus realized that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain by himself. The Word of God for the People of God. Thanks be to God.
Anthem Gwen Paker, Brenda Nitsch, Jordan Bachmann, Soloists
“The Eyes of All Look to Thee" George Elvey, arr. Crawford Thoburn; words: Psalm 145:15-16 The eyes of all look to thee, O Lord, and thou givest them their food in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and nourish all things living with plenty.

“Let Us Talents and Tongues Employ” — Jamaican folk song, arr Doreen Potter and John Leavitt; words by Fred Kaan Let us talents and tongues employ, reaching out with a shout of joy: bread is broken, the wine is poured, Christ is spoken and seen and heard. Jesus lives again; earth can breathe again. Pass the Word around: loaves abound! Christ is able to make us one, at his table he set the tone, teaching people to live to bless, love in word and in deed express. Jesus lives again; earth can breathe again. Pass the Word around: loaves abound! Jesus calls us in, sends us out bearing fruit in a world of doubt, gives us love to tell, bread to share: God (Immanuel) everywhere! Jesus lives again; earth can breathe again. Pass the Word around: loaves abound!
*Doxology Hymnal #95
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*Closing Song
"Lord, Whose Love Through Humble Service", vv. 1, 3, 4 Words: Albert Bayly; Tune: Beach Spring, attr. B. F. White) Lord, whose love through humble service bore the weight of human need, Who upon the cross, forsaken, offered mercy’s perfect deed: We, your servants, bring the worship not of voice alone, but heart; Consecrating to your purpose every gift that you impart. As we worship, grant us vision, till your love’s revealing light In its height and depth and greatness dawns upon our quickened sight, Making known the needs and burdens your compassion bids us bear, Stirring us to tireless striving your abundant life to share. Called by worship to your service, forth in your dear name we go, to the child, the youth, the aged, love in living deeds to show; hope and health, good will and comfort, counsel, aid and peace we give, that your servants, Lord, in freedom may your mercy know and live.

Outreach Committee Member: seeking someone available to meet monthly (and additionally for subcommittee assignments) who has a heart for Outreach. The ideal candidate would have some experience in a non-proft organization, and would be able to make a two-year commitment to the committee.
GREETER COORDINATOR Evarts UR Well Clinic is in need of a Greeter Coordinator to assist with scheduling and supporting greeters at our Outreach Center. Contact Mary Scahill at (585) 705-6112 or mscahill404@gmail.com
The Outreach Committee is seeking volunteers to help us Do More Good. 1) We have an opening on the Outreach Committee itself. This position involves monthly meetings and additional time for subcommittee assignments. Anyone with a heart for Outreach would be welcome, but we are particularly interested in someone with experience in a non-profit organization. Our hope is that you can make a two-year commitment. 2) Assistance with organizing Dining In for Outreach, our largest event. If you like throwing parties, this one's for you. The 2024 event is scheduled for Sat., Oct. 12, so this is a relatively short-term commitment. Meetings are to be determined by the committee. Duties include soliciting sponsors, signing up hosts to hold dinners in their homes, coordinating printed materials to share with the homes, organizing a general appetizer or dessert event before or after the dinners, and collecting donations at the end. 3) Finally, we are seeking a detail-oriented person – possibly a candidate for Eagle Scout or Gold Award – to gather documents, forms and other printed materials used in Outreach with an eventual goal of translating them for non-English speakers. This project would involve speaking with various Outreach ministries about written texts that are seen or used by our neighbors to seek help or understand the services at Asbury. This self-starting person would work closely with the chair of the Outreach Committee and/or the COC director to plan and carry out the census and gathering of written materials. Optionally, the researcher could be involved in the next step: arranging for translation of the documents. Interested individuals may reach out to Outreach Committee Chairwoman Diana Carter at (585) 732-7224 or dianalouisecarter@gmail.com
