THE SECRET TO CAMP MAGIC IS... hot cocoa? As a Camp Director, I cannot help but wonder what our campers look forward to most each summer, especially now that registration is open!!! I know for many staff, it is Mill Hollow hot chocolate and the moments augmented by its presence. It is amazing watching every camper’s eyes grow two sizes when that giant cauldron of hot cocoa is hauled from the kitchen, up the steep stairs, and to the carnival. For campers who experience a rainy day, there is no greater magic than when their counselor doesn’t mind getting soaking wet to bring them back a hot kettle of cocoa and a mug for everyone. For me, my favorite moments are when hot chocolate is made in the evening. After finishing my tasks for the day, I make my rounds around camp. As the stars start to come out, I occasionally will see a cabin group in the dining hall. Everyone is in their pajamas, almost ready for bed. Sometimes they are laughing together, sometimes they are having a sweet moment of reflection. They are always drinking hot cocoa and sporting amazing chocolate mustaches. So, what makes Mill Hollow hot chocolate so special? It’s honestly just a big bulk bag of mix from Deseret Industries. However, it truly is made with love. Whenever hot chocolate is made at camp, it is never because it was planned or tasked. One day, a leadership staff member decided we needed it at the carnival and kept making it each week. On those rainy days, counselors will do anything to help your camper smile. And when you are trying to squeeze just a few more minutes out of a perfect day at camp, you can’t help but bring your cabin to the dining hall for a late-night treat. - Cali

WHAT'S A CAMP DIRECTOR'S FAVORITE MONTH? Hello Camp Families! It is at long last December! You might find surprising that, as a summer camp director, I’d look forward to a month in the beginning of winter, but believe it or not this is one of the most exciting times of the year. Because registration is open! That means I get to see familiar names begin to fill the rosters of the sessions at Camp, and new names get added to our YMCA Camp Roger Family. There is something wholly & uniquely wonderful about getting to experience the addition to our families. I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who disagrees. That being said, the “home” we know and love is always changing. Along with the updates to our bath houses (ohhh ahhhh snaps) we’re going to be getting an all new overnight camp registration software system. This new system will make registration smoother and more reliable for everyone. It will simplify sign-ups, reduce past technical hiccups, and give families easier access to camper portals. For our staff, it streamlines forms, medical details, and rosters so we can spend less time troubleshooting and more time creating an incredible camp experience. Everything we’ve seen so far has us genuinely excited! With all of that being said please take a look at what week you’d like to join us next summer, I for one can’t wait to see you back at camp! - Jake

CAMP IS CALLING! *ring ring, ring ring* Do you hear that? That ringing? That’s camp calling! Our registration opens on December 1st and we are so excited to be able to welcome you to reserve your spot at Camp Roger or Mill Hollow this summer! With that being said, I wanted to highlight some things you may notice as you go to sign up for camp. Tiered Pricing: Our tiered pricing system is available to all families for our traditional Overnight Camps. We offer three pricing levels so families can select the rate that best fits their budget. We encourage families to choose the highest tier they can reasonably afford, as this helps YMCA Camp Roger & YMCA Mill Hollow maintain high-quality programs for every camper. No matter which tier you choose, your camper’s experience remains the same. Tier A: Most accurately reflects the true and actual cost of camp. Tier B: A partially subsidized rate, but more closely reflects the actual cost of camp. Tier C: Our historically standard rate which does not represent the true cost of camp. This rate is subsidized by the YMCA through fundraising, special events, and contributions. Financial Assistance: We recognize that each family’s financial situation is unique. Financial assistance is available for all of our camp programs, whether or not tiered pricing is offered. If the cost feels out of reach at any level, we encourage you to apply. We never want finances to prevent a child from experiencing the joy and community of YMCA Camp Roger or YMCA Mill Hollow. You can apply for overnight camp financial assistance by clicking here. Increased Cost of Camp: Over the last two years, I am proud to say that we have made incredible improvements to our facilities at Camp Roger and Mill Hollow. At both facilities, we have significantly upgraded our bathrooms, showers, amphitheaters, and archery ranges; as well as installing a low ropes challenge course! At Mill Hollow, we have also completed and started additional renovations to our cabins. Outside of infrastructure, we continue to invest in our staff so that your campers can have the best and safest camp experience there is to offer. Of course, these things are not free and we made the difficult decision to increase our prices with these increased maintenance and staff costs in mind. However, please remember that with Tiered Pricing and/or Financial Assistance, it is our intention that no one is priced out of camp. We are incredibly excited about this upcoming summer and hope you are too. See you at Camp Roger in 195 days, and at Mill Hollow in 209 days! Yours in Camping, Ben
